Actually he didn't leave his feet before the hit. His motion and position resulted in his feet leaving the ice after the hit. Watch it over and over again and he never left his feet before the hit. Pause it at 4 seconds and he is already making contact before his feet level. Moral of the story is keep your head up coming across the middle.

No strides immediately before the hit, so no charging. Roughing is only given for a strike to the head. A hit to the head is just that, a hit to the head, but the NHL rulebook does not have checking to the head listed as a penalty.
