  • Leafs are happy that they got phaneuf for nothing

  • 2 received the same hit :D

  • Good HIT? Are you kidding me.. do you not see the part where he jumps or are you just blind? smh....

  • dude giordano just slammed that islander when he was going for Phaneuf

  • the best is the fist pump fro the guy in the suit!!

  • truly Phaneuf's parents are oh so proud of their son,.

  • farnsworth is the man!

  • Okposo is sick, I'm surprised you don't hear as much from him as you'd like to

  • @AKEASTONHOCKEY thats cause he plays for the isles. any other team you would hear more of him

  • @AKEASTONHOCKEY i agree. hes a really good player, but he's had multiple concussions.... shitty luck. phaneuf is a goof

  • it feels like the ref has super powers. the players can never get past them

  • I love how phaneuf needed his entire team to help him fight

  • @PhillyBoy264 How do you figure? The guy went after Phaneuf and he took him down with ease. Clearly you are a fucking moron.

  • Die Islanders...Disgraceful team..

  • hey asshole, your deuch and so are the dropped pens fuck off

  • lol I love today's NHL. "YOU HIT OUR PLAYER TOO HARD! YOU PAY!"

  • Good hit....retaliation fail by the Islander of the bench as Phaneuf dumped him

  • clean

  • he he at 00:40 man hug time

  • WRECKED

  • that is what u call a perfect open ice hit beautiful

  • 1:41 sounded like Ted Williams

  • his feet defs left the ice

  • @Lewis2931 you're dumb.

  • 0:40 homos why are they holding each other

  • @DaneFizzle Their thinking why can't we just be friends??

  • @icehockey191....are you really trying to argue that phaneuf is a better player than pronger....and did you really just say that pronger is a "fat ass bitch"...do you watch hockey with a blindfold on?

  • @rorconn haha, thank you! lol That's just too funny. lol

  • Dion Over-rated Phaneuf. Seriously he didnt even make Team Canada, so you fan boys shut up. Doughty who was a sophomore made team canada for gods sake

  • @icehockey191 your fuckin retarded when phaneuf wins the hart and norris trophy and stanley cup then he MIGHT be able to be considered in the same class as pronger. but lets be honest phaneuf wont win any of those..

  • Phaneuf fucking rocks the ice!

  • love the close-line phaneuf laid!! 0:15

  • Comment removed

  • Phaneuf is the most overrated player in the NHL, he tries to play like Pronger only without the skill!!

  • @bcmn12 your a frickin' idiot when has Pronger been on a NHL video game cover? (just a example) Phaneuf has a WAY BETTER SHOT FROM THE POINT THEN Pronger and anyone else in the U.S and Canada. besides pronger just huge and lays a couple of good hits a year but Phaneuf lays these monster hits every other game so just shut the hell up. u dont kno anything

  • @icehockey191 Ya I'm the idiot, ok buddy. You're saying that Phaneuf is better because he was on a video game cover, your laughable! Don't get me wrong I can't stand Pronger either, he's cheap as hell but how many rings does Phaneuf have? Come on bro watch some hockey, don't just play it on Playstation.

  • @bcmn12 @icehockey191 Pronger was on EA's NHL 2000 cover.

  • @icehockey191 I'm from Calgary and I've watched phaneuf miss the net over and over again. So frustrating watching him shoot the puck, miss the net and goes all the way around the boards for a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 goin the other way. Glad he's outta calgary. (however, gonna miss seeing his hits!!)

  • @icehockey191 logic fail

  • @IrishHeroMan wat u talking about dude? my logic is plain and simple Phaneuf is a way better player then fat ass bitch chris pronger... plus wat the hell is with Pronger? hes an asshole with no sportsmanship look at the olmpics 4 example... who steals a puck cuz they lost????

  • @icehockey191 Yup, you're still failing. lol

  • @icehockey191 talk about sportsmanship? Phaneuf almost ended a kids career in a friggin preseason game, thats low. Phaneuf is very overated, hes out of position a lot when trying to go for the big hit or trying to score. for the past 2 years he hasnt been that good at all.

  • Alot of people are calling it a clean hit but it looks like charging to me.. oh well this was like a year ago now anyway

  • @blairmacinnis75

he left he feet. charging, i dunno about...but he left he feet.

  • Which poor Sen is going to get the Captain Dion Phaneuf Maple Leaf special this upcoming preseason !

  • @mapleleafsforever which 15 Sen's are gonna go on a breakaway after Phaneuf misses his hit? lol, just playin around. Love seeing his hits, but damn he puts himself outta position 80 percent of the time.

  • im tired of all the fags complaining about fights after hits

man up and grow a pair faggots a little fisticuffs is good for the heart and soul

  • @NHLFan9696 fuck off im a flames fan but its good to see the heart of the islanders there sticking up for there fallen star

  • im so fucking tired of all the brawls after a hit..

  • @generationtim cause your a fag?

  • The brawls after hits like this need to stop.... As much as I don't want anyone to get hurt, it was a clean hit! It's the NHL... keep your head up!!!

  • im so happy dion is on the leafs :) so this doesnt have to happen to us anymore! GO LEAFS GO!! :D

  • @purple0wnzx

As a Flames fan, me too. Good riddance.

  • Looks like he just lined him up to me. Hockey's a contact sport and its unfortunate he got drilled that way but shit happens out there.

  • looking at this now it looked like a clean hit, but thats what happens when you have your head down, even if ur tied up. falling down isnt as bad as being laid out by Phaneuf

  • Keep your head up? The trailing flame knocked the player off balance so he was a sitting duck. Phaneuf hit with his shoulder but he was going to go blow up a guy in an awkward position which makes it a little questionable.

  • Islanders got their sorry asses whupped.

  • @agentbl ur a fucking idiot there wasnt even a punch thrown, so good job dumbass

  • hahaha its so funny afterwards, when they all just kinda stood there and held on to eachother looking around! man hockey has everything! gotta love it!

  • go dion

  • Nice hit, no need to feel sorry about it, even if it is pre-season, if you don want to take shots like this go, play baseball or something

  • phaneuf is a fucking LOSER because this was a preseason game.

  • @misserlis Preseason or not it was a nice hit, and hitting is part of the game. That kid sure learn to skate with his headup

  • keep your head up kids. great hit by a man who knows what to do when a player drops his head. scott stevens would approve

  • Phaneuf is one flaming faggot !

  • Phagoof is a dirty whore that loves elbows to the head , leaving his feet checking from behind etc F3@! that b!T#H !

  • Im an Islanders fan It was a clean hit but seriously it's pre season knowing a hit like that can cause an injury ..Hit like that during the regular season

  • I hate Dion Phaneuf for this, you could go for body check , don't kill or hurt everebody when his head is down. Sorry for my bad english

  • It really doesn't matter whether he left his feet or whether Okposo kept his head down. this was a preseason game. watch the reaction of his teammates. Watch the close up off Dawes, i think it is and his comment to a NYI player. I'm pretty much certain he says something like: What the hell is that idiot doing? And he means Dion. Plus he didn't want to fight. Ran out of the way of Morrency like a little girl.

  • has phaneuf thrown a single hit like this during the actual season??? he plays like such a fairy now

  • Actually he didn't leave his feet before the hit. His motion and position resulted in his feet leaving the ice after the hit. Watch it over and over again and he never left his feet before the hit. Pause it at 4 seconds and he is already making contact before his feet level. Moral of the story is keep your head up coming across the middle.

  • nobody cares about the feet, the open ice and keeping your head up. this was a preseason game and phaneuf is a jackass.Read the lips of one of his team mates ( don't know who it is ) on a close up. i'm pretty sure he says: " What a fucking idiot" and he means phaneuf.

  • I love hockey, but when I see a gutless prick like Phaneuf go after someone who's head is down like Okposo's, it makes me wanna puke. And don't give me the "his feet were on the ice" bullshit You're legally blind if you don't see him flying after the hit. Giordano should've let Phaneuf be responsible for his own stupid actions.

....and this is from a guy who watched Rock'em Sock'em videos as a kid. Not to mention I grew up watching REAL tough guys like Probert, Nilan, Grimson, and Domi.

  • The instigator rule changed everything. 20 years ago, a hit like this would have been met with the opposing goon nailing your ass. Today, do the same thing and you're suspended. Bettman did a great job at pussifying a great sport.

  • Amen to that...

  • @TheRealDerfMan

Rule number one if you're going to play in the show. Keep your head up. If Okposo had his head up, he wouldn't have gotten lit up. But he didn't. Do you expect someone to back off and let him go because he's not looking? No. Guys like Probert knew this too.

Also, find this vid with a slow-mo replay. There is a huge difference between leaving your feet to make a hit, and leaving your feet after the hit. When Okposo was hit, Phaneufs feet were squarely on the ice.

  • When you're so much of a fan of a certain player or a team that it turns you blind to certain things, you oughta reconsider your entire life. No matter how much you're trying to convince me or yourself that Phaneuf isn't a prick, he's still a prick. Hits like this don't belong in the NHL, PERIOD.

  • I can freely admit that Phaneuf is a prick. A downright asshole. But that hit was still clean.

Okposo needs to keep his head up. He's playing in the top league in the world. Welcome to the big leagues, son. You're going to get hit.

  • Absolutely filthy hit. There's no place in the NHL for hits like this. It's one thing to deliver a hard, clean hit, but this was the exact opposite. Left his feet and injured a player.

On a side note, it was nice to see Theo Fleury on the ice. I know he's had his demons, but he was a damn good player as a Flame.

  • @FuturePBABowler his feet are on the ice! look

  • If his feet are on the ice, how does he end up in the air?

  • @FuturePBABowler

Occasionally, a player will go down so easily when hit that the checking players momentum carries them up and over the downed player. Take a look at a slow mo replay of this. His feet were on the ice when he made contact.

  • You're not supposed to leave your feet AT ALL!!! If you're check is resulting in you leaving your feet, you may want to think twice. If you're leaving your feet for whatever reason, you're asking to get suspended.

  • Actually, the rule for charging dictates that "A player who leaves his feet for the purpose of making a hit shall be assessed a minor penalty, or at the referee's discretion, a major and a game misconduct. Nowhere is there any indication that leaving your feet after a hit is illegal. It's not.

  • "A player who leaves his feet for the purpose of making a hit"

It's right there. His purpose was to hit Okposo. It doesn't matter if he left his feet a fraction of a second after the initial contact. Phaneuf's purpose was to hit Okposo and he left his feet. It's a dirty hit, end of discussion.

  • The rule seems to be referring to leaving your feet beforehand. How does leaving your feet after constitute purpose for that hit? That's like eating dinner at a restaurant then going and getting takeout you don't eat.

  • No it does not. It says for the purpose of making a hit. No where does it say anything about leaving your feet beforehand. It says specifically "Leaves his feet for the purpose of making a hit". The purpose was to make a hit. That can't be disputed. He wanted to make a hit and he left his feet. It's charging and if it's ruled a clean hit, it's the wrong call.

And that restaurant comparison doesn't even deserve to be acknowledged. Completely irrelevant.

  • LMAO I'm surprised Biron left the net after that terrible Ray Emery fight. Way to get back on the horse Marty!

  • why did the tenders go in? lol

  • Thank goodness Kyle is ok and having a good season..

  • dion phaneuf rocks ps giordano godd job 0;10

  • No offense to what anything says...But Phaneuf is one of the biggest pansies in the league...Dirty hit and run away like a girl everytime...don't wanna hurt you pretty little face

  • @D2themac

lol hes clearly not a pansie, just search him on youtube

  • @D2themac

what are you talking about he stayed and fought so you obliviously are retarded or an oilers fan

  • Phaneuf is a tank i would hate to go up against him

  • 3+ strides = charging and he had a high hit so roughing

  • @CameToSeeRVD

    i dont think so bud

  • No strides immediately before the hit, so no charging. Roughing is only given for a strike to the head. A hit to the head is just that, a hit to the head, but the NHL rulebook does not have checking to the head listed as a penalty.

  • Dude, you know what you're doing, right? Defending a dirty hit!! Hits like this DON'T BELONG IN THE NHL. Whether it's before or after the hit, he still left his feet!! That "rule" you're trying to explain is fucking vague! What ever happened to respect in the NHL? I've seen big guys like Laraque and Chara about to hit an opponent who's head was down, and slow down before they make contact so they don't rip their heads off. Man, you calling this hit clean is saying a lot about your personality.

  • @TheRealDerfMan

Aww how cute. You want everyone to get along and take it easy on each other. While you're in your fantasy world, want to pick up a unicorn from the stable in the sky?

  • Aww, no shit... I should've looked at your profile first before wasting my time with you... You're only 20..!! ...and speaking of CUTE!!! That explains EVERYTHING! Like for one, you're too young to have seen any GOOD hockey in your life time... You dare talk about Probert when you only saw him at the tail end of his career? Ha!

I wouldn't be surprised if you're one of those kids who's gonna grow up to say "Ovechkin was 100% better than Gretzky, and Phaneuf was 1000% better than Orr, man!!!"

  • Quite right. Legal or not, those kind of hits send a message and - whether in that game or not - cultivate a reputation which other teams have to take into account.

Bottom line: Calgary's D is feared and this video shows why.

  • I LOVE DION PHANEUF

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like Isles were gonna change anyway when the hit happen and Morency took his chance to jump on before the play was called.

  • Fuck the Islanders anyways. Its too bad they're all a bunch of pussies in Long Island. Kiprusoff would kill Biron.

  • pussies in Li?one of the best checkers in the nhl today is from LI

  • Left his feet = Charging

  • The only deouche is morency. Perfectly clean hit. Oko should learn to keep his head up and Morency should learn to keep his ass glued to the bench 'cause that's where he's going to spend a majority of his time. Coming off the bench...not cool.

Disturbed: Look at the freaking video, freeze frame it if your eyes can't see properly and clearly you can see he did not leave his feet.

  • so what happen to sticking up for your teammates, clean hit or not,

  • Dion Phadouche - a true neuf-bag...

  • mrdouchebar, a real neuf-bag...

  • Clean hit my ass! He left his feet!

  • clean hit

  • Keep your head up!!!!

  • damn, thats a huge ass hit
