I have never heard or read what your talking about. I have read the complete unit history of the 12th SS Hitlerjugend Panzer Division by Hubert Meyer who actually commanded the 12th SS and know where did it mention this. Ive also read Kurt Meyers bio as he also commanded the division. Ive read countless other works from the German point of view and never heard this.

German POWs were treted as our POWs were treated, and many were treated much better, except for the WSS, and the vast majority survived in decent condition. This is stupid. When the SS Division arrived near malmedy, the americans gived up and became war prisoners. The SS Panzerdivision had not the possibility to bring them away with a transporter. So the americans was forced to wait. They tried two times to escape, (after giving up!) by using weapons, so when the next part of the SS division arrived they were forced to shoot them.

I have never heard or read what your talking about. I have read the complete unit history of the 12th SS Hitlerjugend Panzer Division by Hubert Meyer who actually commanded the 12th SS and know where did it mention this. Ive also read Kurt Meyers bio as he also commanded the division. Ive read countless other works from the German point of view and never heard this.
I think you have misunderstood something somewhere along the line.

@Foxtrot262 I could not find what this was referencing. I do believe it was determined that around 12 Canadian prisoners were shot by the 12th SS in Normandy, but it was never conclusively shown that Meyer ordered it or was present at the time.
I do not think the 12th was accused of any other war crimes. Honestly, this was no worse than things many Allied units did in Normandy. . .vicious campaign all-round.

Anton1941, We, the USA, are guilty of some warcrimes, but on a much smaller scale and these crimes were not committed as a governmental policy as the pig Nazis did. WSS also shot Canadian POWs and crushed some with a Panther, then the Canadians retaliated. To hell with nazis and neo-nazis, Hitler, STALIN the butcher, and Sadam, the Taliban, Osama and Al-Quida, etc. Your country is more f-upped than the USA.

There were no such thing as Eisenhower's 'death camps'. German POWs were treted as our POWs were treated, and many were treated much better, except for the WSS, and the vast majority survived in decent condition. Allied POW camps were by far not = to Nazi concentration & POW camps. Vietnam War was a result of the Cold War politics of those times. I have known many vets & Vietnamese that have problems and have died because of the dioxing etc. in Agents orange, White, Silvex etc.

Hmmm. Seems most men and boys are horny at one time or another. The USA Army never raped that many women in Stuttgart, although it did occur. During the war we executed over 100 of our soldiers for crimes such as rape; how many German soldiers were executed by Nazi authorities for rape? Our government never encouraged rape or other crimes, but they did occur as they always occur in war. You are simply a deluded neo-nazi.

Those things always occur in wars etc. FYI, no the USA military has committed far less atrocities than the nazi & most other armies.
War itself is an atrocity.
Much less atrocities were committed in Vietnam than is believed, & the other side also committed atrocities such as the 1968 hHue City Massacare etc.
A friend of mine was invited back to Vietnam & a former Viet Col., now a General, thanked him & his unit for being kind to civilians in their AO. There exists some good raport now.

Read Alexander McKee's "Caen: Anvil of Victory." It is considered one of the best accounts of the Normandy campaign by a British tanker and historian who was there. He and many of the men he interviewed said that atrocities occurred on both sides in Normandy, with about equal regularity.

The truth is the Germans, Americans, Canadians, and Brits all killed prisoners out-of-hand on the Western Front, mainly in the ferocious battles following the Normandy invasions. Of course, the German crimes were accentuated and examined in war crimes trials; the Allied executions were hushed up.

Would you care to comment about what the Russians did to the Polish army officers at Katyn? There was probably some indirect justice meted out later when the Germans invaded and killed millions of Russian soldiers. The point is not to lose in a war. The victors will be the ones that apply "justice".

My father was dug in several miles away with his First US Army unit when this happened. By night fall almost everyone in the US Army had heard what had happened. After that my father and his buddies never took anyone in a SS uniform alive. I've been in the US Military now for 35 years. If any of you Kraut lovers want to keep an old family tradition alive, I will be more than happy to put a bullit through your head!

the winners write the history books...you have to stay neutral if you want to have a clear look at something. war crimes were not only done by germans. i want you to remember that russians and even americans can do war crimes. and this malmedy massacre is nothing compared with the my lai massacre done by americans in the vietnam war (500 killed civilians). without war war crimes would never happen...so war is the only crime done by humans

@jimtheripper The Germans wrote a lot of this history. Of course the Soviets wanted to murder captured German high command out of hand. Only with the insistence of the US did the Germans get a trial.
The 3000 killed on 9/11/2001 were killed by an atrocity outside of war. War is the legal and appropriate response to an atrocity like that.

This is stupid. When the SS Division arrived near malmedy, the americans gived up and became war prisoners. The SS Panzerdivision had not the possibility to bring them away with a transporter. So the americans was forced to wait. They tried two times to escape, (after giving up!) by using weapons, so when the next part of the SS division arrived they were forced to shoot them.
It is a historical fact that the german soldiers were beaten and abused in prison by the americans and forced by them.

@smackdacat7 there is no "they". im pretty sure that my grandfather did not decide to kill millions and to take over the world. he was just a soldier in a war and fought for his country. the soldiers at the front didnt know anything about what was going on in the KZ or what the SS did behind the front. would you say that every american soldier who must fought in vietnam is an evil person just because the war was evil? and "they" also did not want to go to asia and kill some viets.

@Zot64 where did i defend the politics of germany in ww2. i defended the poor soldiers which had to go to war even if they hated hitler. my grandfather was sent to russia because he wrote something against hitler and the NSDAP. he paid the price in the russian winter because he lost a leg. His family was punished at home for what he wrote. I just want to make clear that the world is not black and white and that even we germans are humans. we suffert enough dislike i think.
