  • I have a girl rat she freaks out when we give her the medicine shes got an ear infection too....i just dont like holding her tight cuz im scared im gonna hurt her

  • i tried that with my male rat but he just wriggled the whole time and i think most of his medication went on his face. i was holding him and my mam was trying to give him his medication. if it went on his face will he clean it off.

  • What I found to work was soaking the medicine on to a piece of bread and feeding that to the sick rat, my little guy took it every time and made a full recovery!

  • @jamescowley good idea, I'm gonna try that with my rat.. she's not happy about being forced to take her medicine :P

  • @TheJesterRace00 Thanks, not only does lil ratty get the medicine but a little treat too! I wondered if there would be any problem with the rats metabolising it but I can't see why there would be, and my vet didn't foresee any problems :)

  • somehow like this im fighting with my timi 2 eat medicine.. but he can spue it out :DD what i really dont understand how.. he and me 2 now, we got ringworm :\ but i dont care i just hope he gonna b ok and he a bit help me with eating the medicine ;)

  • My rat has a horrible inner-ear infection right now, she can't even stand up. :( Shes on medication though.

  • ahh I have to do this by myself! Except I have to give mine liquid bactrum and I have to give it twice to my little one named Bella, and once to Roxie, Buster and Cocoa. I don't remember what the doc called it but he said it's a bad respitory infection like mycoplasmosis but it started with an H

  • i have to do this to my rat and she always bite and sqeeks and whins she hate it im going to try this next time

  • My boy always gets really pissed off when I do this. He has an outer ear infection and now have to take him to the vet to have his ear flushed out o.O

  • im going to try that tonight with my girl, but she always hyper and she dose squam alot! also im sacred she might get hurt....well i give it a go...hope it works with my girl

  • thanks so much for this, we find that putting butter on the end of the pippette isn;t enough sometimes!

  • mmm.. baytril lol

  • You're such a good parent to Bearzie. My own rat, Buboe, lost the fight against a respiratory infection, but after he died (much too young), I was able to console myself knowing that I had given him medicine, and done all I could.

  • I'm sorry about Buboe. What a cute name. I wish rats lived longer and were less prone to infection because it's so easy to get attached to them.

  • indeed. about 2 years ago my brother had a pet snake. we had a bunch of feeder rats that would have babies. i kept about 3 for myself, but they died from a respiratory disease. didn't do them much good. =/

but i have 1 rex rat now and she seems very healthy and happy. :D
