@Pentaparsec not really beacause if you look for ukrainian greetings then you get a hold of ukrainian words then you will get a hold of russian more easily
You are very accurate at explaining the difference between "privet" and "zdrastvujte", ok it's exactly as "hi" and "hello". But in the last part of the video, a woman explaining the difference between "zdrastvuj" and "zdrastvujte" failed to explain it fully. The fact is that "zdrastvuj" is the singular form of this greeting and the "zdrastvujte" is the plural one. You simply cannot say "zdrastvuj" to a number of people at once, it would be a grammatical mistake.
Well, to finish it off, the plural form of this greeting is used to a single person in order to show some respect.
And about "zdraste", the girl was right, it's kinda shortcut. Personally i use it with people older than I am but the ones I see to often to spend our time to pronounce this correctly :)
@straightdude35 It's very easy to do with practice and many other languages feature the rolled R as well... just relax your mouth and tongue, point your tongue up and behind the curve that's behind your upper teeth (that's where the R sound is made) and try to keep it fixed in that position while exhaling forcefully on that point. That rubbing sound is a good start, just make it sound like an R and you're good to go!

This is why Americans don't know other languages. If this much thought goes into one word, imagine how long it would take to get through the cases.

don't you say hello Preevyet. or is that just the written form of it.

@narutoizcool330 preevyet is Hi in russia zdrraastwhicha is Hello
pathofchaos1 1 year ago
@narutoizcool330 Preevyet (привет) is an informal way of saying hello. You don't really say it to people whom you aren't friends/family with.

crazy russian with their backwards R, hello should only be two or less syllables! o well
