Albedo it seriously the *best* antagonist of all-time. Possibly even beyond the video game category. The psychology behind him is brilliant. It seems so fitting of a person who was forced to live far longer than we're supposed to.
i always loved when albedo rips off his head. its just this game is sooooooo long and most of it is movie scenes theres very little actual game play. Plus its not quite a rival for it's precursor Xenogears.
You know, when you consider the themes in Xenogears, and the fact that it was the only game of a much longer series...and then consider this scene, by the same person who created XG...Isn't there a nagging thought somwhere in your head that maybe, if he'd had the chance to complete the entire Xenogears series, that we'd have seen things maybe ten times worse than this?
I have no idea what I just watched. I've been reading a description of someone playing through the game, so lack of context is not a problem. I had to watch the scene because I was having trouble comprehending what she wrote about it.
Her description was entirely accurate. It's just the scene itself the defies comprehension.
Also, Albedo crosses the line from Awesome-Insane to Creepy-Insane. He's not even close to the line where he's Creepy Yet Awesomely Crazy. The man is terrifying.

It's supposed to be a form of twisted humor in his line: '...or you'll make me feel like a péché myself.' Péché means : sin. And I hate fighting him. Regenerating bastard...

If you read his profile, his presence is defined as 'the power of God'. Knowing that, and despite him being an ally, I'm afraid a day will come where you have to fight him. That over-hanging knowledge makes me more cautious about using him in a fight... It's a damn good thing he's so passive.

I've seen the Japanese (unedited) version, with a knife and purple blood. It is gory, I suppose. Removing that got it past with a "T" rating, but this version is far, FAR more disturbing.

Wow... this guy is like the consummate video game villain... evil, immortal, insane, and able to regenerate his own head, after he himself rips it off and steps on it... this guy makes Sephiroth look like a damned wet sentient paper bag!
Totally agree with the others on how the American version, though somewhat more censored, is more brutal. I mean, taking out a knife and cutting off your arm and head is all good and all, but ripping them off with your own hands(or hand, in the case of the arm severing), is more brutal and twisted.
I can't think of any character more lovable than Albedo. Not only is he insane, but he's so incredibly complicated and brilliant--this series itself was already awesome enough, but he made it THE BEST.
Albedo is what made Xenosaga great, he was probably the best character they made, but then again Xenosaga itself is a great video game series. Sure you can say 2 was horrible(I wont deny that) but its storyline was just as good.
Albedo as a character was nearly perfect in the concept of a villain.. Crispin Freeman (Alvedo's voice actor--also my favorite voice actor ever lol) just made him THAT much more amazing.
Albedo's written dialogue is great, but with the added feeling of insanity it's just perfect. He made Xenosaga Episode 1. He wasn't just the icing on the cake.. haha..
I kind of lost interest in the series though, after Episode 2 kind of ruined it...

They're both insane and that's about all they have in common.

Sephiroth is emotionally reserved, yes; but think about his reasonings. Seriously, who else just sits down, reads a book, and then goes and burns down a village because of something that they THOUGHT was true?
Sephiroth = Crazy (mentally, not emotionally)
Albedo / Kefka = Crazy / UNSTABLE (mentally nuts, and emotionally prone to exploding).
They're just different kinds of crazy.. and I was comparing Seph - Kefka on villainous terms, not insanity...

I was about to debate you here, but than I realized they're pretty similar.

I still say Kefka's worse though. Sephiroth lost his mind, but he did so because he realized he had been some twisted-lab fuck up. He essentially had reason to become evil, though he took it to far and did it for the wrong reasons.
Kefka was just a piece of shit. That's about it. He had no real motivation per say, other than he wanted to.
He didn't much care that he was experimented on or anything.
Well, with insanity, yeah; Kefka was worse. But then again, Sephiroth practically had this grand idea which would, in very much of a good likelihood, wipe out the world (or at least the world as people knew it / the human race).
Kefka, as far as I know, just liked to screw with stuff.
There's a big gap in villainous terms. =p Goal-wise, Sephy's got the foot in front...
Kefka vs. Sephy:
Kefka = Demented and really twisted.
Sephy = "Evil". (because evil is generally a conscious thing)
It's not like Kefka didn't choose to do what he did. He wanted to destroy everything, but he wanted to do it for no reason other than because he felt like it. To him that's the way things should be.
In that regard he's comparable to the Joker.
It's worse to want to destroy simply for the hell of it rather than because you have a reason. With a reason, it could potentially be justifiable.
Also, just for bonus points, he actually did succeed in enslaving the world, if only for a while.
...All i know is two things..one,albedo is batshit crazy...more so than MoMos BAT-OUT-OF-HELL vehicle driving skills...
Two,this scene because of all the odd camera angles keeps making me think they were trying to make it look as if albedo raped momo...especially that 5:09 to the END section +_+lllll
@ManasJeuneFilleX He kind of went nuts after A) Rubedo cut the connection in the U-Do chamber and destroyed most of his comrades and B) After Albedo discovered his regeneration traits and freaked over having his brothers die but he'd have to live alone. The Y-Data... to him, I suppose it was true immortality, but I doubt it was the cause of his insanity.
I swear, if the mere setting doesn't get you, then the maniacal laughing, the nightmarish music, the fact that he just RIPPED HIS ARM AND HEAD OFF and the fact that he just MIND RAPED A GIRL/ROBOT EMOTIONLESS will.
She sure didn't when he was done with her in that clip. And I think that's the point. She just collapsed into a doll after he got through with her; no emotion.Thus for the purposes of this clip, she got mind raped.

I watched my sister play Xenosaga when I was 7... then I played the games myself from the ages of 12-15...
I always knew it was extremely freaky at times, but I got used to it... but now? I think this game got really close to an M rating.

Totally agree with the others on how the American version, though somewhat more censored, is more brutal. I mean, taking out a knife and cutting off your arm and head is all good and all, but ripping them off with your own hands(or hand, in the case of the arm severing), is more brutal and twisted.

Albedo is what made Xenosaga great, he was probably the best character they made, but then again Xenosaga itself is a great video game series. Sure you can say 2 was horrible(I wont deny that) but its storyline was just as good.

Albedo as a character was nearly perfect in the concept of a villain.. Crispin Freeman (Alvedo's voice actor--also my favorite voice actor ever lol) just made him THAT much more amazing.
Albedo's written dialogue is great, but with the added feeling of insanity it's just perfect. He made Xenosaga Episode 1. He wasn't just the icing on the cake.. haha..
I kind of lost interest in the series though, after Episode 2 kind of ruined it...

I was about to debate you here, but than I realized they're pretty similar.
Go figure.
I still say Kefka's worse though. Sephiroth lost his mind, but he did so because he realized he had been some twisted-lab fuck up. He essentially had reason to become evil, though he took it to far and did it for the wrong reasons.
Kefka was just a piece of shit. That's about it. He had no real motivation per say, other than he wanted to.
He didn't much care that he was experimented on or anything.

Well, with insanity, yeah; Kefka was worse. But then again, Sephiroth practically had this grand idea which would, in very much of a good likelihood, wipe out the world (or at least the world as people knew it / the human race).
Kefka, as far as I know, just liked to screw with stuff.
There's a big gap in villainous terms. =p Goal-wise, Sephy's got the foot in front...
Kefka vs. Sephy:
Kefka = Demented and really twisted.
Sephy = "Evil". (because evil is generally a conscious thing)

It's not like Kefka didn't choose to do what he did. He wanted to destroy everything, but he wanted to do it for no reason other than because he felt like it. To him that's the way things should be.
In that regard he's comparable to the Joker.
It's worse to want to destroy simply for the hell of it rather than because you have a reason. With a reason, it could potentially be justifiable.
Also, just for bonus points, he actually did succeed in enslaving the world, if only for a while.

I certainly don't get the impression that the camera angles are intended to imply anything dirty or sexual, at least not to MOMO.
Albedo just seems like he's enjoying, maybe a little to much, scaring the crap out of her.
The other dolls in the beginning of the scene could have carried that implication, but not any of the interactions with MOMO.
At least not in my opinion.

@ManasJeuneFilleX He kind of went nuts after A) Rubedo cut the connection in the U-Do chamber and destroyed most of his comrades and B) After Albedo discovered his regeneration traits and freaked over having his brothers die but he'd have to live alone. The Y-Data... to him, I suppose it was true immortality, but I doubt it was the cause of his insanity.
