I fucking hated how Pride made him fight all of these monsters who outweighed him by 40 lbs. Pride was run by a bunch of scumbags who didn't give a shit about their fighters.
@SteroidsMakeMeStrong I totally agree. But that's part of what makes Sakuraba special. He's our David who slayed all those Goliaths... He's a hero to the sport, partly because of that. Would I like to see him immortalized as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world? Yes. Because he was (really wanted to say "is"). But he did so much more for MMA than that. His part helped MMA become it's own sport which we have all come to cherish as it is today. We'll never forget you Sakuraba!
No one, I mean no one is more to our beloved sport then Saku. Coming out of left field and changing the landscape of MMA. lol I say this with water filling my eyes. A little wrestler from Japan.... Who would have thought someone like this would show us all the true spirit of being a warrior? So many freakish fighters and their egos nowadays. They are not half the champion you were. You never held gold in hand. However, you held the true gold in your heart. Thats why you are/were the best!
@GeneralVan that's probably not too far from the truth bro. He subbed a far better wrestlers than Lesnar and Velasquez in Randleman who was a monster back then. Anderson's been submitted by two of Sakuraba's stablemates in Chonan and Takase. Jones would be interesting to see. he reminds me of Sakuraba alot (not in skill set or level, but excitement of style)
If Sakuraba had a bit better boxing and some more power behind his shots he would have been unstoppable. He is still the legend for anyone who is lucky enough to recognize it though. Best grappler in MMA ever.
@Sheggzz i'm just guessing, but probably because Rickson handpicked his opponents and made all the rules for his fights. much like Royler and Royce did with Saku. He also backed out of fights with credible fighters like Saku and Bas.
Great Sakuraba video! I especially like how Rob Park showed Sakuraba demonstrating certain moves in training, and then using those same moves in actual fights. Awesome!
@SlaveSlayer2010 well, you try to cartwheel to north south and just improvise when the guy reacts to it. (cant be afraid to get an accidental knee or elbo to the face with this one)
I'm greatful Saku only fought in UFC Once, having him in Pride meant he could be more of a showman...and jump on peoples heads!! Great fighter to watch.
Jesus...this is the first i have seen of this video and it is absolutely brilliant. Anyone know the song? Please email me through here or comment after this asap. Song just fit the video so friggin well.
what's the name of the second song ?

In his prime im sure Saku would've destroyed Anderson Silva, GSP, BJ Penn, Machida, Jones, etc

Oddly enough, this song was used in a Rickson/Rockson Gracie tribute vid. I'd still like to see Saku vs. Rickson by the way.

@mpc808 Seeing as how Rickson is a fraud, I think Sakuraba would win even in his worn out present stage.
