  • and he is SAFE!!!! SAFE at the PLATE!!!!!! The Braves go to the World Series!!!

  • 3 dislikes are FOX executives.

  • CBS did baseball? NASCAR? What didnt they do?

  • for some this bring backs great memories but to me who was 10,11, 12 in 90-92 and a pittsburgh pirates fan it is pure tourture. glen braggs robbing carmello martinzez in 90, getting shout out in games 6 & 7 at home in 91 and i dont even wanna talk about it 92.. it still makes me wanna run up in my room and cry.

  • This is the soundtrack of my early 20s. Just hearing conjures up memories of the worst to first Atlanta Braves and that epic 1991 World Series. Btw - the composer also wrote the "Sex and the City" theme & "Gimme A Break" as well. Great theme.

  • Thi song captures the essence of MLB better than any other theme song ever composed.

  • Sean McDonough and Tim McCarver!

  • THE WINNERS AND STILL WORLD CHAMPIONS - THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS!

  • Comment removed

  • There are no words to describe how good this theme is. This is what baseball is all about.

  • We'll see you tommorow night!" Jack Buck

  • @dude58677 yup - and 20 years later - if Jack Buck was here today - he would have said the same thing with the walk-off homerun in this Cards and Texas game 6 - which was an exciting game! Game 7 tonight!

  • @melvinh007

Well his son did say it. How fitting!?!

  • @dude58677 I'm surprised he didn't say "That's a World Series winner for the Cardinals" last night when the final out was made in tribute to his father's 1982 Series winning call when the Cards beat the Brewers.

  • @TheRetro64

The Cards winning game 6 earlier this week was not the clincher. "See ya tommorow night" was perfect for a game 6 given that it was not the clincher and also because it was improbable that there would be a game 7 given the circumstances of game 6.

  • It brings me back to those chilling days of the Reds' sweep over the Oakland A's in the 1990 World Series with Jack Buck and Tim McCarver as Pat O'Brien hosted the event. Great coverage!!! Who can ever forget Jose Rijo striking out Rickey Henderson to begin the game "Strike three and you're out and this is the way this one starts."

  • Much better than any theme that's out today

  • OMG, I can't hear this and not think of the Tomahawk Chop. thumbs up if you agree

  • the beginning sounds like the theme on espn

  • To this day, CBS' coverage is far superior to anything that we've had since. I dread the thought of hearing fox's terrible presentation.

  • modulation alert : 58

  • This theme sounds like the beginning of a soap opera or a commercial for tampons. Great playoff era. Lousy coverage.

  • This is CBS Sports...

  • GO BLUE JAYS, Joe Carter hitting that homer against the Phils was epic!

  • bring back MLB ON CBS PLEASE! STARTING IN 2012!

  • Hope you all can join us at beautiful Target Field from Aug. 5-7 as we celebrate the 20th anniversary (and Twins win) of the greatest World Series of all time...the 1991 World Series.

  • I meant to say that NBC had both League Championship Series and the World Series in 1994 and 1995. (So, given the strike season, NBC's only year televising the World Series was in 1995. Bob Costas did the play-by-play if the 1995 World Series on NBC.

  • The winners and still World Champions, The Toronto Blue Jays!!!

  • espn took part of this theme, from 0:07 to 0:09 and made some variations

  • It does sound like the opening notes of ESPN's baseball theme, doesn't it? Could be just a coincidence; both networks coverage began the same year.

  • @bakerandbaker1 if thats the case maybe its a coincidence. they could have.

  • EPIC theme music.

  • So did FOX get the contract for MLB after CBS? And that would have been in 1994, correct?

  • @MIBFreakPack Wrong. ABC and NBC got a "Baseball Network" together after the CBS deal expired. However, the players' strike of 1994 discredited the idea; and after one more season--1995--FOX got the rights and, with them, the unfortunate opportunity to apply their typically godawful coverage.

  • @twilafan Well at least I know. Thanks.

  • Unfortunately, the only time Fox has been good at anything is when they had CBS Sports personalities to cover the NFL. Anytime Fox has used their own personalities, their coverage of anything is average at best compared to the competition. Of course, I don't think Fox would receive nearly as much flak if not for Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, and a over the hill Dick Stockton.

  • @bakerandbaker1 You know a lot of people criticize Tim McCarver these days, but I'll tell you it's all about the chemistry and teamwork between the broadcast crew. If you watch the coverage from the mid to late '80's on ABC when McCarver was teamed up with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer, that was a hell of a crew and they worked so well together as a team of three. McCarver gets a bad rap today, I think, because he's just not as good of a companion to Joe Buck and they don't have the same dynamic

  • But it's not all Buck either. It's mostly McCarver making asinine comments. If anything, his lack of failure with the ABC crew had more to do with his relative youth and the dominance of a brilliant Al Michaels doing pbp. Then he goes to CBS and becomes the senile old guy we all love to criticize. Not to defend monotone Joe Buck, who doesn't help matters at all, especially now that he's suffering a severe throat virus.

  • The one good news for baseball fans about incompetent TBS having exclusive coverage of the division series is that they won't have to endure Buck and McCarver until the next round. Until then, Buck and Aikman ruin Sundays for NFC fans.

  • @bakerandbaker1 Yes, he himself makes some crazy comments now. But it wasn't just Michaels with that ABC crew. Watch some of those games. All three men did a great job then and they worked very well as a team. Those games are such a pleasure to watch, and I enjoy listening to all three of them.

  • You're mixing up the CBS thing though. Joe Buck never did baseball on CBS--that was his father who did. (Senile old guy, but still with flashes of greatness.) He was also I think a better team with McCarver than the son is. But I still think the Michaels/McCarver/Palmer crew was the best, though Bob Costas with Bob Uecker and Joe Morgan were a good crew also. Morgan's another one who is dependent a lot on who he's with. I can't stand him with Jon Miller, but with the Bobs he was good team.

  • Well, in referring to Joe Buck I was referring to McCarver's current pairing with the younger Buck at Fox in reply to your mention of their dynamic in the booth.. Though Joe's father was getting older in 1990 and had some minor issues making the adjustment from radio to television, the guy is a mother f***ing legend any way you spin it, and beloved by the fans. His son...not so much.

  • @bakerandbaker1 What a lot of people probably don't know is that Brent Musburger was initially going to be CBS' main MLB play-by-play man. But when he got fired on April Fools Day 1990, Jack Buck was pushed into the top spot (before getting dumped after the '91 World Series in favor of Sean McDonough). Buck Senior gave CBS' broadcast some credibility (like when Vin Scully was doing MLB for NBC) even though he and Tim McCarver were perhaps like oil and water on air.

  • @twilafan Actually FOX got the World Series for the first time in '96, but they alternated with NBC until 2000, only since '01 has FOX had exclusive rights to the World Series.

  • @MIBFreakPack

NBC had the LCS and World Series in 1996 and 1996. Of course, the players' strike in 1994 wiped out the rest of that season, plus the World Series. CBS' contract with MLB ended with the 1993 World Series. FOX then picked up the MLB contract, beginning in 1996 and continues to the present day.

  • @RickO4404 Now it makes alot of sense. Thank you.

  • ... the days before the Wild Card and its dilution and distortion.

  • How can I forget CBS's coverage of the 1991 World Series? Game 6 of the World Series, Atlanta at Minnesota was played on my wedding night! My wife and I were married on Oct. 26, 1991.

  • @RickO4404 that was a great world series

  • @RickO4404 Did Jack Buck say and we will see you tomorrow night? His son Joe Buck is such a jobber. I can't believe FOX gives him a push.

  • MLB on CBS Theme... one word: EPIC!

  • @EKB316 Agreed.

  • This makes me miss early 90's sports on television even more. Especially baseball on CBS.

  • Reminds me of the days when The Pirates & The Blue Jays were actually exciting to watch :(

  • Best mlb theme EVER...it's a shame it lasted only 4 seasons.

  • WWE should use this for their Hall of Fame induction ceremony next year. Anyone else agree?

  • @kimv020887 That would be cool.

  • @EKB316 well imagine this theme playing while the narrator says "This is the 2011 WWE Hall of Fame."

  • @kimv020887 Oh believe me. I can imagine that. You talk about an epic opening, try this: flashes of hall of famers as this is playing in the BG and a cool smooth voice saying, "Welcome to the 2011 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony." That would have me excited more so than I would be since that is the night before WrestleMania!

  • @EKB316 I think Mean Gene Okerlund will do the voiceover.

  • @kimv020887 That is perfection in itself!

  • @EKB316 yep it is.

  • @EKB316 ... truly a classic theme, hitting all the right notes in an organic fashion, without manufactured and false energy.

  • The next time that MLB's network television contracts come up for bids, why don't they take bids from the traditional over-the-air networks as well? ABC, CBS and NBC? Having baseball exclusively on FOX and TBS has gotten very old very fast.

Without a doubt, I think that when CBS had the contract which included the league championship series and World Series back in the 1990-1993 era, they did a fantastic job.

  • memories !!! :)

  • ......and he is SAFE!! SAFE AT THE PLATE!!!!!!! The Braves go to the World Series!!!!!

  • @valoguy Classic call by Sean McDonough. I loved the way his voice cracked as he shouted "SAFE"! Sounded like Peter Brady.

  • love it

  • greatest MLB theme song ever. wish they'd play it for the Rangers/Giants. epic.

  • DUDE. I so remember this. And I was only like...2 or 3 when they stopped using it.

  • The last 30 seconds are awesome. It makes me think of all the greatest moments in baseball.

  • @303Smilezzz makes me think of Joe Carter in Game 6 every single time

  • i wish cbs would take baseball saturdays back and off of fox it sucks on fox

  • "Line drive and a basehit! Justice scores the tying run! Bream to the plate...and he is Safe!!! Safe at the plate!!! The braves go to the world series!!."

  • OMG my favorite theme song as a kid that I've had in my head for 15 years and couldn't remember it. I got chills when I heard it again just now. Thank you for the upload.

  • This song reminds me of the Atlanta Braves

  • it sounds like the espn theme

  • @Angelslover9 I think so too, but it's a great theme...both are

  • Now that's what all call BASEBALL music!

  • @JML101582 A TRULY Classic Baseball Theme.

  • @JML101582 Agreed, unlike that theme TBS uses for their coverage, which sounds more like an entrance theme for a WWE wrestler.

  • Memories of the 1992-1993 world series!!! Wow does this bring me back!! Thanks for posting :D

  • When I hear this song I just keep thinking about the Braves, Twins, White Sox, & Blue Jays. Funny I never think about the Blue Jays and the only time I do is when I hear this song.

  • @hehatemee Ha, same here, I got Joe Carter in my head now!

  • This song reminds me of the Atlanta Braves, for good reason.

  • CBS was the last broadcast network the Toronto Blue Jays ever appeared on.

  • @QBCNetwork not true... in 1996, Toronto appeared on FOX against Baltimore. Baltimore won the game, and that years AL Wild Card spot

  • @savagerob2k10 I never knew that. So it's been 14 years since Toronto's been on Fox.

Now if only NBC would stop this reud with The Houaton Texans.

  • @savagerob2k10 I thought the Toronto Blue Jays were also on FOX in 1997-98 (the years when Roger Clemens played for them)

  • ahh Saturday Afternoon Game of the week, with JACK Buck and Tim McCarver before he was biased.

  • I couldn't agree more. With the current state of baseball, there's really no way that teams like the Royals or the Pirates can ever get better. Pittsburgh hasn't had a winning season for 17 years for gosh sakes. I agree it would be great to see other teams get into the World Series. Baseball needs a salary cap and it needs it yesterday.

  • You certainly don't get themes like this anymore.

  • One of the best sports themes of all time. My hair stands on end every time I hear it.

  • WOW! That is/was actually good!

  • CBS sports alway have the greatest sports themes from this to the Masters, Current Golf them (fanfair), NFL, NCAA

  • Lets go bucs I am excited for our future for the first time in a long time guys like Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez, Jose Tabata, Brad Lincoln, Tony Sanchez, Tim Alderson, will lead us back to promise land once again the pirates are a team on the rise

  • Literally have not heard this since 1993. So good memories!

  • this theme brings back horrible memories for Pirate Fans

  • they should keep this theme song. it's a great baseball theme.

  • doesn't espn use dis theme?

  • "and we see you tommorrow night

jack buck's famous call 1991 world sereis

  • @thedude19766 that was the greatest world series of all time.

  • @thedude19766 Damn Kirby Puckett.

  • @thedude19766 Here is the clip of that. And we'll see you tomorrow night. LMAO.

  • @thedude19766 Here is that hilarious clip "And we will see you tomorrow night."

Just search this on youtube: Golic sacks Young - 10/27/1991

  • best baseball theme ever. this takes me back to the days of TWIB and childhood...oh man.

thanks for posting this theme, been looking for it forever!

  • I don't know how teams like Twins, Bluejays and Red won World Series. Its impossible with the current state of baseball. I'm a Yankees fan but I must admit its kind of unfair how we spend more on one player than some teams do as a whole. How can the Royal and Pirates ever get better? We need changes.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 It's simple... those teams didn't have to deal with the current state of baseball.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 - I know exactly how the Toronto Blue Jays won the 1993 World Series. Can you say "Mitchy-poo?" If it wasn't for Phillies closer Mitch Williams, the Phillies would have won Games 4 & 6, and therefore, would have won the '93 Series by a 4-2 margin. In Game 4, Williams blew a 14-9 lead and lost 15-14. In Game 6, the Phillies had a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the 9th, but Williams served up that infamous homer to Joe Carter and lost 8-6.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1

Major League Baseball needs to have a salary cap like the NBA does. If that were the case, the Yankees wouldn't be able to hog so many of the good players. That would make it easier for smaller market teams like the Royals and the Pirates to get great players and be more competitive.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1

Either that or some Yankees players would have to take paycuts from what they are currently making. It is just like when Karl Malone and Gary Payton both joined the L.A. Lakers in the NBA a few years ago in hopes of getting a ring, they had to take paycuts from what they were making with the Utah Jazz and the Seattle Sonics, respectively because of salary cap restrictions.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 Blue Jays had some good players and the Twins were ok for a few years. They probably would have made the 92 playoffs if baseball had a "wild card" system in play. But I agree with you, baseball does need a salary cap. I'd love to see the Royals or the Reds or even my Orioles in the World Series!!!!

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 The Twins and Reds are definate contenders this year. I still think baseball is managed properly; now that the Yankees owner has passed; who knows what's next.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 what we need is a minimum salary floor

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 oh its quite possible this year haha Twins/Reds in the series in fact :) But yes the Royals Pirates someone needs a Mark Cuban boost or something

  • @mrwrestlingtape1

maybe if the owners of the royals and pirates actually spent some of that revenue sharing money and other revenue sources on their teams instead of simply pocketing it their teams would be better off

if the twins can be competitive every year in this climate, why cant those 2 teams???

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 lol you answered your own question dude. It's cause the ideology of buying the World Series never existed up until 1997-98. I'm a Jays fan but also the Twins, Reds back than simply had good talent and scouting. If you're a decent scout nowadays, it doesn't mean shit...it only matters on how fat of a wallet you have. I think I do more work aiming for the toilet bowl when I take a piss in the morning, rather than standing in the outfield getting paid 10M a season.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 Not trying to seem mean, but yeah it is unfair. I'm a Twins fan and the Yankees always whoop us in the playoffs and it's like "Really? Money wins the win for the Yanks again"

    Still, what can be done...

  • @MIBFreakPack LOL.....life's not fair man, get used to it. And as for title talk......twenty-seven for the Yanks now. The tradition of excellence continues.

  • @FairBolFL I don't find it to be excellence but money.

Twins spend their entire team that the Yanks spend on one player...

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 for starters they can start putting their revenue money back into the team instead of pocketing it like a bunch of greedy jews. Pittsburgh made $36 million last year. where'd that money go?

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 Being a small market isn't as big a barrier as you might think, it really comes down to ownership in the end. Look at the 2010 Rangers... Not a *SMALL* market, but no where near as big as NYC, LA, etc. Yet, through smart ownership and key roster acquistions, they won the AL.

Tampa Bay, though, *IS* a small market that has done many, many things right. They went from being statistically one of the worst franchises of all time to have three solid seasons the past few years.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 You forget that the Royals and Pirates were contenders once....but yes, changes should be made. For one, there should be more of a salary cap. Speed up the games, and bring ticket prices down!! I remember when I used to attend several Mets games per season in the 80's and 90's....now, I'm lucky if I can afford to attend ONE Marlins game here in South Florida. Only the rich can afford it.....

  • @FairBolFL I agree with the ticket prices. Trying to get a ticket to a Red Sox game at Fenway is hard enough without having to put a second mortgage on the house. I just hope I can get out to Pittsburgh and Philly this year so I can not only see the Red Sox, but also see them in different stadiums.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 You are the first Yankee fan to say that, thank you. I respect you a lot, I agree there just needs to be a cap and agents *cough* Boras *cough* need to stop running up the prices on players. Changes def need to be made!

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 Once a team gets good players, they start winning, In the beginning, the Yankees did not have a crazy amount of money, they just had good players. It's a circle, the Orioles in the 90s had good players and a lot of money, but they lost the players and couldn't get anyone great for a while.

  • @mrwrestlingtape1 With the exception of 2004, at least you guys never choked in the playoffs. As a Braves fan, I have had heartbreak after heartbreak. But yeah, I feel sorry for KC, Pittsburg, Seattle, etc.

  • Frank Cabrera got the game winner...THE ATLANTA BRAVES are National League Champions again!! This crowd has gone berserk, listen.

--Skip Carey-- '92 NLCS Game 7

Where were you when Sid Slid?

  • Comment removed

  • "CINCINNATI, the CHAMPIONS of BASEBALL FOR 1990!!!!!!...with an IMPROBABLE sweep over Oakland!!!!!!!"

    -Jack Buck

  • @dcaff330 I remember that season. That was definitely a "Big Red Machine." You guys had such an awesome team that year. And yes, I was more of a Jack Buck fan than his son Joe. Joe still has time to recover and learn a thing a two from his papa.

  • Man, don't bring that up! I'm trying to forget that horrible series! Losing to the Dodgers in '88 wasn't as bad as this debacle. LOL!

  • @dcaff330 Hard to believe that was 20 years ago for Reds fans.

  • Jack Morris vs. John Smoltz.

    Sid Bream's slide.

    Joe Carter's walkoff.

  • Great Memories.

  • Go Jays!

  • I completely forgot that CBS had MLB during this time!!! Guess the 94 strike made me forget.

  • Should CBS ever get baseball back (highly unlikely), they better have this theme. I should get this for my cell phone ringtone.

  • I totally agree. It is highly unlikely that CBS will ever get baseball back. MLB appears to be satisfied with its arrangements with FOX Sports, TBS, ESPN and of course its own MLB Network. (Not counting each team's contracts that cover their individual markets.

  • @RickO4404 The thing is, FOX is not bad when it comes to baseball. Its just that they've tried so hard to be hip that the quality of its coverage has dwindled over time. They're nowhere near as good as they were from 1996 - 2001.

That's why I prefer CBS. They gave us baseball, nothing more, nothing less.

  • @PeoplesWar they barely even gave us that, they only covered the minimum weekends asked for in the contract, they only got MLB for the All-Star game and post-season, although I'll admit, save for McCarver they did have some good announcers (Jack Buck in 90 and 91, McDoungah *spell check* in 92 and 93, with Dick Stockton usually doing other games)

  • @PeoplesWar CBS however pretty much made the "Game of the Week" (which had become as Saturday institution on NBC) irrelevant. They aired regular season games very sporadically. They also pushed Tim McCarver (who admittedly, didn't gel too well w/ Jack Buck those 1st two years) to the moon, when he was much better w/ Al Michaels & Jim Palmer at ABC.

  • @TMC1982Part2 In retrospect, MLB should've kept NBC and had CBS replace ABC as the second broadcast window. Instead, they went straight for the huge payday. In the end CBS lost half a billion and we got the stupid Baseball Network for 1994-95.

  • "Hello and Welcome to Game 7 of the 1991 World Series...it all comes down to this. A herculean Homerun hit by Kirby Puckett sent us right to where we are tonight...the deciding game. Hi everyone Pat O'Brien here from the Metrodome here in the Twin Cities, inviting you to sit back, relax and watch us crown a new Champion"

This was one of my first real memories of watching Sports on TV firsthand. It still gives goosebumps.

  • You wouldn't happen to have a tape of that game, starting with the theme and into, would you? I've got the game on tape, but my tape starts in the middle of the pre-game show--I've never gotten to see this theme and O'Brien's into at the beginning of that game for the ages.

  • One of the best themes of all time!!!

  • This is one of the songs that defined my childhood. Being a White Sox fan, it was a rare thing to have my team in the playoffs, and when they won the AL Western Division in 1993, we made sure to tape all of the ALCS games against Toronto. I watched those tapes over and over and over as a kid, and I will always remember this song!

  • and well see ya tomorrow night

  • Welcome to Yankee Stadium as CBS Sports Presents Game 1 of the 2009 World Series Between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.

  • joe buck along tim mccaver here in yankee stadium here on CBS

  • That would be Jack Buck...or Dick Stockton...or Greg Gumbel...or Sean McDougnah.

  • If CBS had baseball now, odds are it'd be either Dick Enberg or Jim Nantz doing play-by-play. Or maybe Gus Johnson, he did call Detroit Tigers games in the late '90s.

  • Don't forget Greg Gumbel, who was the #2 play-by-play man (behind Sean McDonough) in 1993 (CBS' last year w/ MLB).

  • Of those four, Greg Gumbel would be the most likely candidate. He is the only one of those four currently with CBS. Dick Stockton works for FOX and for Turner Sports, Sean McDonough works for ESPN/ABC, and Jack Buck is dead now.

  • Covers

    Baseball

    Sporadically.

  • This theme evokes memories of those last great Pirate teams. Did Sid Bream ever run faster than when Francisco Cabrara hit the ball past Jay Bell? Heartbreak for sure, but still great memories.

  • Best theme song ever, I remember the amazing World Series between the Braves & Twins in 1991.

  • I was 10 years also and i still remember

  • Yes! This song at the ending credits reminded me so much of that memorable game 6 Twin's win in extra innings and it rained I believe, as mentioned by Rick04404

  • Regardless, the 1991 World Series has become known by many people as probably the best fall classic in history.

  • I totally agree, even better than the 1975 world series as well.

  • Jack Buck in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series Atlanta at Minnesota. Bottom of the 10th, runner on 3rd. "Gene Larkin...base hit! The Minnesota Twins are going to win this World Series...The Twins have won it!!"

  • Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. Atlanta at Minnesota. Bottom of the ninth with Kirby Puckett at bat.

Jack Buck's legendary call..."Puckett...there's a drive into left center...for Mitchell...and we'll see ya tomorrow night!"
