@TheFlexEffect Hakeem is the most complete center in history. No one can compare to him. He dominated every legendary center he played against; old but still great Kareem, prime Ewing, prime Robinson & prime O'Neal. That's 4 of the other 9 best centers ever. Only player to win MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Player with most five by five. Most blocks. Most steals by a center. His 94 Rockets are the only team in the NBA history to win a ring with only ONE All-star. Nuff said.
Man as a player it would be a dream to play w a prime olajuwon. You can take a non athletic player whose slow as hell but have a good jumper and the dream can make his career.
It's such a shame what the league did to Hakeem and the Rockets in 1993. Hakeem was the clear MVP that year. Jordan said so and after Barkley got the award, he said he'd have no problem if Hakeem was named the winner. Hakeem was just unreal that year. Some people were calling him the best in the league. In the last game of the season, the Rockets got shafted by the refs when they counted a David Robinson putback at the buzzer (replays showed it was clearly late) which allowed Seattle HCA.
Somewhere out there Jazz fans are still crying. All they can try to say is losing to Jordan's Bulls is the same is winning a title because Utah will never win an NBA championship lol.
@Strat0Blues when you got celtics vs heat or heat vs lakers it is but the AVERAGE game for the NBA is not nearly what it was 10-15 years ago when I began watching.
Seeing how this Rockets team worked so well with Hakeem and all, i don't think Jordan would've been able to beat Hakeem and the Rockets in '94...the Bulls barely itched their way through Barkley and the Suns in '93
@oneman91 Well, Barkleys Suns took Hakeems Rockets to 7 games on both title years, and Barkelys back was on worst shape then, than on the 93 finals. Anyway, that Rockets vs Bulls Finals would have been epic, its a shame it didnt happen. The 2 best players from the era going at it in the greatest stage, can you imagine?!
@oneman91 Barley itched their way thru Barkley & the suns in 93? They won the 1st 2 games in PHX, went up 3-1 in the series & won in 6 games. The suns lost on their home floor all 3 games against the bulls. Btw this is a suns fan sayin this.
The '93 Finals was a tough series... u talkin like the Bulls handled business like casual, all those games were decided by 10 points or less
The Bulls would've had trouble with Olajuwon... the main weakness of the 90's Bulls was their inside presence. The Rockets was the perfect team to face the Bulls because they had length (Horry, Thorpe) along with great shooting. I never like betting against MJ though =) I thought the Jazz would take them out in '98 and i was wrong
@oneman91 Well my bad for makin u think that way. Yes i know it was 10 points or less every game & yes it was a tough series but after game 2 they didn't really itched their way thru em cuz they were up 2-0 goin home. Well i never brought up about the rockets vs bulls in the finals (if it did happen). I don't think the rockets would of won in 94 yes Hakeem would of givin em problems but Jordan & Pippen would of givin the rockets problems. 95 probably due to H.Grant not bein there with the bulls.
@oneman91 Remember one thing as good as Karl Malone was in his career. He was never as good as Olajuwon on those Jazz teams. Olajuwon wouldn't be just shooting jump shots. He would have killed Rodman or who ever else they tried to put on him in those series verse the bulls. He would have open up Utah's jump shooters.
@oneman91 Beat K.Malone twice, Rodman was gettin owned tryin to guard Kemp in the 96 finals. So Jordan can win with that miss match but then again we will never truly know & it sucks cuz Jordan & Hakeem weren't definitely the 2 best players durin the 90s by far.
@oneman91 Yes Hakeem was the best center but the bulls always delted with that miss match yet they won 6 titles (2 3peats). He went up against Ewing severals times with his great defensive team & beat em, beat the frontline of Daughtery & Nance a few times, beat Zo & LJ in the 95 1st rd w/o H.Grant or Rodman & this is when Jordan was comin back from baseball. Swepted Shaq & the magic in 96 (although they probably wouldn't have a swept em due to H.Grant bein injured the ast 3 games).
@hangtime23ful None of the teams you mention had Hakeem "the dream" Olajuwon. In NBA history Offensively "The Dream" had as much skill as Jordan or anybody. Jordan score more points because he was selfish shooter in his five yrs. He also was a guard who had the ball in his hands all the time. A Center depends on the guards and the system giving the ball to him. Hakeem was un guard-able as much as Michael Jordan.
@arronnov Ok a players skill doesn't automatically make em the best ever at something. Hakeem is more skilled than Shaq but Shaq is more unstoppable offensively than Hakeem. Jordan scored that many pts cuz he could score in so many ways & ur "selfish" excuse isn't gonna cut it. Y would the bulls limit a guy like Jordan's fg attempts a game when he shoots has efficient as he does? Heck Jordan has seasons where his fg% was better & he's guard who shot way more 3s when Hakeem's a center.
@arronnov I'm not tryin to diss Hakeem or anything he's one of my fav players ever, he's unbelieveable & very very skilled but sorry he's just not a better scorer than Jordan. U can't penalize Jordan for bein guard btw & he has the efficiency of a big man, if he was a shotjacker like Iverson, T-Mac, Kobe, etc then i could understand. Hakeem's highest ppg season was 27.8 & there r other big man that have higher ppg seasons than that, Jordan has staggerin scorin numbers & i'm sure u know em.
@hangtime23ful Jordan was a shot jacker. It easier for a guard to jack up more shots because the ball is in his hands. Hakeem didn't put up more shots than Jordan because teams won't let Hakeem beat them especially with no kind of shooters his first six of seven yrs in Houston. That's why he was asking for a trade in 90. Its easier to double and triple a big men to stop him or force him to pass than a guard.
@arronnov Do u even know what shotjackin means? It means ur shootin a ton of bricks & missin way more than makin em. Jordan shot over 51% 6 times in his career & 49.7% for his entire career, that's not shotjackin. Yeah & Jordan shot 83-85% from the ft line so what's ur pt? Oh so now where gonna make another excuse right? The league's golden boy, nice one & like i said stop penalizin Jordan for bein a guard. Jordan got double/triple teammed all the time, ever heard of "The Jordan Rules"?
@hangtime23ful Shotjackin to me is when you shoot so much and never really get your team mates involve to a point. The other time realize one man is not going to beat us no matter how many points he scores on us. As far as being double and triple team bringing the ball up or driving to the whole. Jordan chances of getting fouls since he was the golden boy was higher than everybody else who played. I lived in Chicago and watch his early career I know what I saw.
@arronnov So was it Jordan's fault if he got so many calls for em? Was it Shaq's fault for the refs not callin offensive fouls when we all know he did make offensive fouls that weren't called? What about Wade in the 06 finals? It doesn't mean the other players r better scorers just cuz they don't get as many superstar calls as the other. Every superstar gets superstar calls & yes Jordan did get calls for em but big deal so did every other superstar.
@hangtime23ful Let's not forget that Jordan got calls like nobody in his first 8yrs. They both came into together in 84. Hakeem would get beat to death like Shaq and wouldn't get the calls. Shaq lived at the line and couldn't shoot for shit. Hakeem could hit his ft at a 70 to 75% rate. Lets remember Jordan was the leagues Golden boy. The league has changed in the past 30yrs. The leading scores are the majority of the times going to be a guard or small forward.
@hangtime23ful Hakeem was the best defensive player in NBA history. 1# in blocks and 7# in steals all-time. His offensive a thing of beauty with speed quickness strength power finesse and moves equivalent to a Swiss army knife or full tools box. That man had 10 with 20 counter moves which total 30 moves. He could hit jumpers and probably threes if was allowed to shoot more often the line.
@arronnov Y r u bringin up defense? That has nothin to do with scorin & yes i know about Hakeem's D. U can have so many moves offensively but if someone is more consistent than u at scorin then ur a better scorer simple as that. A player's physical gift, althetic ability, talent sometimes just might cause em to be a better scorer. Like i said there r other centers that have had better ppg seasons than Hakeem so ur exuse about Jordan bein a guard & Hakeem bein a center won't work.
@arronnov Shaq got double/triple teammed more than Hakeem did thru out their career so big deal. I know great Hakeem is on O & D with his awesome skillset, u don't need to put words in my mouth.
Idk if knicks would of won or lost. If u wanna ask unreality questions then answer this if Jordan was on the suns team in 94 & 95 would the rockets lose to the suns? See its easy to put a guy in someone elses shoes & have the other team win. We don't & won't ever know.
@arronnov That may be ur opinion on shotjackin but what i said about shotjackin is the definition of what it really means & what everyone else uses when talkin about a shotjacker. A better word for Jordan would be ball hogger or whatever. But u know what? That ball hoggin led the bulls to 6 titles.
@hangtime23ful No what led to the bulls to 6 titles was getting so better talent around and trust in his teammates. No person wins all by himself. Hakeem and Sampson made to the finals in 86 with the weakest guards I've every seen. Hakeem avg 26pg12rbg4blk and Sampson didn't do shit. Mind you Boston had 3 hall of famers on that frontline. The Celtics had Bird Mchale Parrish but they also had a team that they trusted and did their jobs.
@hangtime23ful If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team],I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position.
@hangtime23ful It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots.People don't realize he was in the top seven in steals. He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game,I have to give it to him.
—Michael Jordan
These words come from Jordan himself and we know Jordan never like giving credit to any other player. He knew Hakeem was good.
@arronnov Yes the bulls did get more talent around em but Jordan was still leadin the league in scorin when they won all 6 of those titles. Yes i know how great Hakeem is & i know that quote from Jordan & i agree with em. Y r u assumin i don't think that Hakeem was great? What is the main pt ur tryin to make here?
@arronnov Then y didn't u say that in the 1st place instead of sayin a bunch stuff about Jordan & Hakeem individually? How do u know the rockets would of beatin the bulls in 94 & 95 if Jordan didn't leave? The bulls won 55 games without em in 94 & were a BS call away from makin it to the ECF & they could have beatin the pacers. It took the rockets 7 games to beat a team that a non Jordan bulls should of beatin. Just think if Jordan was there in 94, things would of been totally different.
@hangtime23ful Hakeem had the best talent around him in his whole career. A young Horry and Cassell both who could shoot and score. Kenny smith could shoot and score.Otis Thorpe to help Hakeem with the dirt work. Mad Max was Mad Max. They finally put some shooters around Hakeem who could score and shoot. The most important thing was they weren't scared to shoot.Horry Cassell Max and Kenny were not scared to pull the trigger. You just couldn't double or triple team Hakeem because you paid for it.

@hangtime23ful One more point about Jordan's quote's about Hakeem. You know that was killing Jordan to say those words about Hakeem. He still poked at Hakeen by saying just the greatest centers not one of the greatest players. Thats who Jordan was he pounded on people at his HOF speech.
@arronnov Y would it kill Jordan to say sometihing good about another player? Players do that all the time with other players, its a common thing dude.
@arronnov Also ur comment on shotjackin. Not gettin players involved, Jordan avg'd 8apg in one season & avg'd 5-6 in some other seasons. For the amount of shots he takes that's gettin ur teammates involved. His 1st option was to score cuz he was so dominate at it, that's y he took so many shots cuz he had the best balance of skillset & athleticsm. Don't get me wrong Hakeem is up there with Jordan in those aspects but he's not a better scorer than Jordan.
@hangtime23ful If Hakeem was on those Knicks teams that faced the bulls three straight yrs and lost with Patrick Ewing do you think the knicks loose to the bulls.
1. He seemed smaller/physically inferior to most centers, but out played D. Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, and Kareem in '86.
2. He was the only all-star on the 1994 title team. They depended on him for scoring, creating open shots, and anchoring the defense, basically everything. Shaq had Kobe/Wade, Kareem had Oscar/Magic, Wilt had West, Hakeem won a ring with no all-star/hall of famer caliber player on the perimeter (until Drexler in 1995).
Thing about Hakeem was although he was smaller, he was strong with a really good base. People were too awed by the moves to forget just how physical he was in the paint. Only guy he couldn't bump off in the post was Shaq.
@TyroneNBAFan Olajuwon was 6'11'' and those mentioned centers were all above 7 foot . When he won nba championship in 94' he didnt have Drexler but he had Veronon Maxwell , Kenny Smith , Otis Thorpe , Mario Elie , Sam Cassell and Robert Horry . None of them were great players but together they made preety doog crew .
@FuShengAlex ...do u remember the 96 first round?...houston vs lakers...before shaq...old man magic johnson played in this series, this was his comeback yr....
hakeem- 32 rbs in 158 minutes
magic- 35 rbs in 135 minutes....
lmaooo.....outrebounded by a point guard who had been out 5 yrs?....lmaooo
next series rockets lost to jazz in 6...stockton hits a 3 at the buzzer...every shot mattered,obviously...
ostertag= 6-6 fgs 4-4 fts..great defense hakeem!!..lmao...holding ostertag to perfection!
@shaqpopcorn34 Yeah but u keep on forgetting that Shaq himself idolized Hakeem! I mean Shaq Daddy himself said that if he was gonna be compared to any center in the league he would love to be compared to Hakeem. I also remember MJ himself calling Olajuwon the best center he's ever gone up against on an interview of the 100th issue of slam magazine. When Dream won both of his titles he went up against Patrick Ewing, the Admiral and Big Aristotle himself. And he swept him btw...
@shaqpopcorn34 And about Magic outrebounding Dream, u shouldnt forget that Magic was a pg in a pf body...and he's the best rebounding guard I've ever seen (I havent seen the big O play). And about Ostertag u shouldn't forget that he's a starting NBA center too and thus he mustnt be so bad...plus the sun shines even in dog's butt and anybody can get lucky on an any given day!
@shaqpopcorn34 Oh and btw I'm a Knicks fan but I still consider Dream a better center than Ewing and even though I love Shaq daddy...he's the strongest player I've ever seen, he can handle and pass the ball like a guard but he can never be compared to Dream cuz when Shaq won his 3 chips the only other guy really worth talking about playing under the basket is Tim Duncan...cuz Kevin Garnett and C-Webb also played in the perimeter...and Vlade and K-Mart were never superstars...
@shaqpopcorn34 And Shaq can never be compared to Dream cuz he never had the moves Olajuwon did under the basket. The only guy with good enough moves around the basket to be compared to Dream is Kevin McHale and probably Tim Duncan. And if u tell me that the Diesel didn't need those moves cuz he would dunk on suckers all night long well Shaqfu could never hit freebies while Olajuwon was pretty descent and he couldn't play the pick n roll that well while Olajuwon was more than efficient...
@shaqpopcorn34 And u shouldn't forget also that Magic played more the pf spot or coming off the bench cuz the pg of that Laker team was Nick Van Excel...
@FuShengAlex ....rockets won game 6 at the buzzer and ostertag had 16 pts and no misses of any kind, field goal or free throw....if hakeem could have forced at least 1 miss, they probably woulda won....lmaoooo game 6... hakeem- 16 pts 11 rbs ostertag- 16 pts 14 rbs 1998....1st round exit to jazz... hakeem shot .394%...lmaoooo it went to 5 games in a 5 game series..... game 5-winner take all..... hakeem- 15 pts 9 rbs malone- 31 pts 15 rbs lololololololol
LOL@ShaqPop.......It appears Shaq brought quitting ways to the Cavs too. They went further in the playoffs last year without him than they did with him this year. And look at Game 6 in Boston......they quit. I mean where did I see that before? Oh yeah in '95 HAHAHAHA!
Shaq FINALLY won a title in 2000, but not after being TAUGHT by Hakeem how to win a title. And then Duncan in his 2nd year won a title before Shaq who'd been in the league for 7 years....LMAOFFFF. And both of them swept Shaq when collecting their hardware.
shaq scored 26 in the game, lower than his average vs hakeem......as u will see hakeem cant stop shaq....he never could....thats why shaq scored 112 pts with just 30 fgs missed.....compared to hakeems 131 pts and 60 fgs missed
That doesn't change that Shaq is a career loser vs. Hakeem in the playoffs. He ONLY has 3 wins to Hakeem's 5. Hakeem has a title, a Finals MVP vs. Shaq, a game winning basket and a 3 pter in his face. Shaq had......tears,LOL.
@FuShengAlex ...u mean 1 series to 1?....hakeem is a 2-yr wonder....a guy who is used to failure....
thats why the ringless seattle supersonics sent hakeem on an early vacation 4 times.....lmaooo...4 straight prime yrs hakeem couldnt make it past the 1st round....lmaooooo
Yeah Hakeem also knows what it's like to sweep Shaq, win a title vs. him and make him break down in tears.....sadly I can't say Shaq knows what it's like to do the same vs. Hakeem.
LOL.....Jordan beaten by Shaq in '95...who went on to weep like a baby after being broomed outta the '95 Finals. Jordan named Hakeem THE greatest Center ever...not Shaq. And before he retired: "Luckily we haven't faced that team, we just can't seem to figure Hakeem out.....he's had our number for sometime!".....Shaq on '95 Finals years later: "I'll be a man and admit it.....Hakeem dusted my butt,LMAOFFF!
@FuShengAlex 1999 playoffs...... hakeem- 11.3 ppg shaq- 29.5 ppg 4 to 2......and thats just so far..... jordan was taught by jordan how to win.... jordan= "i will retired in my prime to give u a chance hakeem"... hakeem #1 pick in 84= 2 rings jordan #3 pick in 84= 6 rings hakeem= a bust!!!...had to wait til the #3 pick retired to have a chance.....lmaoooo.... what happened in 99?....barkley,pippen?...why no success?..... ohhh thats right......shaq had horry this time.....LMAOOOOOOOO
Yeah Olajuwon won a title vs. Shaq and a Finals MVP vs. Shaq.....while Shaq was breaking down in tears. Shaq: "The '95 Finals is the only time in my professional career I cried" Let's see Shaq won vs. Olajuwon........the right to be Duncan's whipping boy,LOL.
@FuShengAlex ....lets see how the rockets had the bulls number.....
1996.....the rockets entered the playoffs as 2-time defending champs....
they were swept by the sonics.....
the bulls beat those same sonics 4-2....
dont compare regular season success vs playoff success.....the bulls and rockets played 2 times per year...
dont forget that michael jordan was 0-6 vs the cavs in the same year that he hit "the shot".....the series winning jumper on ehlo....in a series, bulls over rockets
Look at this sissy ShaqPOOP, you're the same guy boasting of Shaq eliminating MJ in '95 in another thread. And then you're in here saying Dream needed MJ to retire to win. Dream SWEPT Shaq the same year MJ LOST to Shaq.
What's Shaq's playoff record vs. Hakeem? 3 loses vs. 5 wins. Which includes losing on his homecourt. Shaq knows something about being beaten at HOME....just ask his wife and his ex-Cuban gardner....LMAOFFFF.
the whole repertoire on display here: the skill, the balance, the footwork, the shooting touch, the ball-handling, the strength ... what couldn't dream do?
McHale was certainly a great player, but honestly, comparing him to Hakeem as a post player is apples to oranges. McHale didn't have the athleticism or agility to do many of the things Hakeem could do.
Hakeem was a better player... i hope u konw that. McHale had more post moves but Hakeem post moves are more deadly. Hakeem had a whole team on his back while McHale was hanging off Bird's dick. that mean he gets less double teams and better looks.
@TheHNIC88 Let's actually watch a Celtics game first before we say something like that, shall we? I'm not saying that McHale was better than Olajuwon, but to say that he got less double teams and better looks is ridiculous. He was doubled almost constantly and the post moves he put on display were the best of the best. Hakeem's strength and athleticism certainly helped him develop some deadly moves, but when it came down to sheer operation on the low block, no one was better than Mchale. No one.
Hakeem operated the low block more effectively then McHale. McHales might be more polished but just saying he's GOD under the block in general is just crazy. I watch a few Celtics games and by saying Mchale gets double teamed like Hakeem night in and out is wrong. McHale gets a lot of his buckets from Bird's set ups as well.
@TheHNIC88 What I was saying was that McHale has always had the best moves down low. Does this mean he was the most efficient? Not quite. Hakeem was extremely efficient because of his strength and athleticism combined with the moves he would go on to develop. Back then doubling the post man was the norm, both Hakeem and McHale would have about 2 or 3 post dribbles before the help defense came. I would agree that Bird was a better set up man than anyone on Hakeem's team though.
@biddybizzell Sure, sure. I was enjoying an intelligent conversation (though the other party seems to have left me halfway). No need for hate messages when I have legitimate reasons to believe McHale's post moves were on Hakeem's plane. Notice how I never claimed that McHale was as good an overall player as Hakeem. I was just defending his post moves and disagreeing with the overly simplistic view that he was never doubled or rarely doubled.
@TheHNIC88 Mchale was a foward and Olajuwon was a center , they cannot be compared . Mchale had the best post moves ever and to say Olajuwon post moves were more deadly is stupidity . You never watched Mchale play . Also give the man a credit , Mchale had 26 ppg in one season , thats very high if youre 2nd star player in the team . Imagine his stats if he was in some weaker team .
@garioldwin McHale was deserves to be in the HOF but he doesn't deserve to be compared to Hakeem. McHale never showed the ability to carry his team. As Bird's back was giving him problems, the Celtics championship run came to an end with a healthy McHale.
McHale & Hakeem both had an incredible # of post moves but the dream shake was almost as unblockable as Kareem's sky hook.
@srsh12345 You should do more research . McHale injured his foot in 87' playoff's but still continued to play after he was suggested by his doctors to rest in the entire playoffs . After that injury he was never the same . Kareem's skyhook wasnt unblockable , i saw Wilt blocking it clearly in some vids 3 or 4 times .
@garioldwin You're one of those literal ppl. Yes there is no such thing as an unblockable shot.
The Sky Hook was the most difficult shot in basketball to block. If you can't acknowledge this ... then there's no point in even continuing the conversation. Hakeem's dream shake because of his exquisite foot work was almost as difficult to stop. McHale also has plenty of low-post moves but he always had Bird on the Floor. Kareem & Hakeem suceeded as the #1 options on offense.
@srsh12345 I have never said that the sky hook wasnt the most difficult shot in basketball to block , that is unquestionable . I said its not unblockable . So what is McHale had Bird ? When he got the ball in the low post he was alone , one on one or even a lot of times double teamed .
mchale was good, but hakeem was a different breed entirely. i'll bleed green until i die but as far as centers go, olajuwon played with such intensity it's hard not to like him. best center of the modern era and the closest thing we'll see that compares to bill russell.
merk, i always say it, hakeem may not have the consistent longevity or the accolades of kareem & shaq (the 2 centers i rank above him only) , but when he was healthy & n his prime (1993-97) there wasn't a more complete center (or arguably player) than hakeem olajuwon on both sides of the ball
"hakeem may not have the consistent longevity or the accolades of kareem & shaq (the 2 centers i rank above him only)"
Hey bro....I wish you could clarify this statement. I agree with Kareem's longevity being unrivalled at the C spot.but Shaq's? Not buying it.
Hakeem age 34 two games (and a dirty Malone screen) away from the Finals. Shaq at same age swept by the no name Bulls in 1st round?. Shaq age 36: 18ppg 8 rebs missed playoffs? Hakeem age 36: 19ppg 10 rebs 1st rd exit?
i dont think u could blame shaq 4 last year's debacle n phoe, shaq had a great season last year, especially considering he only played 30 min a game - this year he's only playing 23 min a game & 1nce again his #'s r great: per 36 min last year n phoe? 21.3 pts, 10 reb - this year n clev? 18 pts & 11 rebs - shaq is having a great season & he's out-played every top center he's played against this year, including dwight howard
Cost....I am not "blaming" Shaq per-se for last year, he played great....the point is Hakeem scored and rebounded better than he did at the same age.
CLE? They're 5-1 in games Shaq didn't play, he's on a talented young team that can easily mask the decline in his game. He's with the best best passing forward (if not player) in the NBA. Dream at 36 was stuck on a aging team and posting better numbers than Shaq last year. Of course Shaq made it this far with the amount of time he's...
.....1/2 assed it and gave a 1/2 hearted effort, he mailed it in in Miami. Shaq has NEVER played a full 82 game season to this date, and people (including you) are talking of this supposed longevity he has over Dream. Jabbar was still the 1st option on offence until age 40 and not mailing in games like Shaq in his late 30s. Wilt was leading rebounder in his last year and could've played longer, that's true longevity. All I see from Shaq is being blessed to be on CLE team that masks his age.
there definitely is truth n ur posts fu, i 2 question his motives over the years 2 leave teams & find greener pastures - but again, i cant deny his effectiveness, & remember, dream posted better #'s - but only bcuz he played more minutes per when comparing their productivity at age 36: dream 18.9 pts & 9.6 reb n 36 min per game, shaq 18 pts & 9 reb n just 30 min per - & yes shaq is blessed 2 play with lebron - but wasnt kareem blessed 2 play with magic? shaq oldest player 2 ever shoot .550%
Cost....I think you KNOW in your heart if Shaq played on those 86,94 & 95 Rocket teams in Olajuwons place....not only would he have NOT won a title....but none of those 3 teams would've made it to the Finals.
Hakeem would've won all 4 (and maybe more) of those rings that Shaq won in LA/MIA....and I don't see if you flipped the ages in the 95 Finals a 32 yr. old Shaq sweeping a 23 yr. old Olajuwon in his 2nd playoffs on the road.
@FuShengAlex ...u truly dont have a clue....18 straight seasons over 55%...u say hakeem was better at 36 than shaq was?..more ppg and rpg?....have u no depth to your mind?...PER 36 MINUTES at age 36....
hakeem- 19.1 ppg 9.6 rpg 1.8 apg .514%
shaq---- 21.3 ppg 10.1 rpg 2.0 apg .609%
do u realize shaq outscored amare last year per minute?...shaq had 3 coaches as a sun, porter cost them a playoff spot....sat shaq out 7 games before the allstar break.....suns were 2-5 without shaq...44-31 with him
@FuShengAlex .....why r u mentioning shaqs game played?.....he has played over 1,100......he has over 200 playoff games, hakeem 140....if u wanna say the cavs are 5-1 without shaq and say thats relevant, then ok.....then they 10-13 record miami had in the 2006 title season is relevant......miami= jackshit without shaq.....yes,in the title year.....in 07 the heat had a better record WITH WADE OUT!!...YES,ITS TRUE....suns were 2-5 last yr without shaq.....cavs= 9 straight wins with shaq
"in 07 the heat had a better record WITH WADE OUT!!..."
So it was Shaq that was the difference maker and true leader on that team.....oh wait that was the SAME team that got SWEPT by Luol Deng/Ben Gordon combo,lol.....Nick Anderson's fault Shaq lost in 94-95...his postseason #'s 14ppg-5 rebs-3 asts and 44% shooting. Hakeem WON a title with Vernon Maxwell as the starting SG SCORING LESS...REBOUNDING LESS than Anderson who Shaq got swept with....And only shooting 37%,LOL.
LOL....The 2nd leading scorer on the 93-94 Rockets TITLE team was Vernon Maxwell with a terrible 13.8ppg and 38% FG!!!
Shaq has been SWEPT with Kobe averaging 20ppg and his THIRD option Rice averaging 18ppg in 98-99. Shaq LOST in the playoffs in 02-03 with Kobe averaging 32ppg and Fisher with 13ppg and shooting 50%. Shaq....swept again with Wade averaging 23ppg. Shaq = the big waste.
kobe took 26.5 fgas vs the spurs, and the lakers offense was terrible.....the reason?....shaq wasnt getting the ball....the ball wasnt moving....kobe lost the series....its that simple
Note in 01 & 02 it was Kobe that was leading scorer vs. S.A. and not Shaq. Shaq has NEVER won a series vs. Duncan/SA where he ended up as leading scorer.
@FuShengAlex .....kobe vs the 01 spurs?....u mean the same spurs that STARTED danny ferry(who brought shaq to cavs),terry porter(who coached shaq),and antonio daniels(living legend!)....wow,how did kobe ever manage to score on those guys!!!!....r u forgetting that was before parker/ginobili/bowen?.....that team was built on the twin towers, who shaq dominated.....shaq and shaq alone was the reason for the wins
"GEE,WITH THE BALL GOING THRU SHAQ THEY WON 3 STRAIGHT....WHAT HAPPENED IN 2003?"
Gee what happened when they went through Shaq in '99 vs. S.Antonio.....oops swept!!! Heck at least they didn't get swept in '03. Kobe has won a series W/O Shaq vs. Tim Duncan. Shaq is 0-1 vs. TD w/o Kobe.....and has only beat Duncan in the playoffs....when Kobe was
@FuShengAlex .....WHERE DO U GET YOUR FACTS FU....
KOBE TOOK 76 SHOTS IN THE 1999 SERIES VS THE SPURS.....
SHAQ TOOK 67 SHOTS IN THE 1999 SERIES VS THE SPURS.....
and u say it "went thru shaq"?....
did the 6 bulls titles go thru pippen?....after all,he took less fgas then jordan....much like shaq took less fgas in the 99 spurs series
SHAQ IS 3-0 vs time duncan without kobe....shaq carried all the time....shaq is 2-0 vs kobe this year and the lakers are 2-0 without kobe...lololololol
@FuShengAlex ...how many series had kobe won over billups and ben wallace without shaq?.....didnt shaq eliminate them in 6 in 06?....it was easy for shaq to beat detroit without a guy shooting 38%....lolololololol.....
i really like how kobe was up 3-1 on the suns that yr....then blew that lead(and phils record).....phil jackson had NEVER lost a series under phil with a lead....they were up 3-1,and lost....lolololol....kobe outscored by barbosa in game 7....he wanted shaq back...lolololol
how many series had kobe won over billups and ben wallace without shaq?.....didnt shaq eliminate them in 6 in 06?....
Kobe evened the score last year with Billups. As for Wallace....why should he feel bad, he's advanced 3 out of 4 times vs. Shaq. Can you answer why Kobe can win vs. Dunca w/o Shaq, but Shaq can't win a series w/o Kobe vs. Duncan.
@FuShengAlex ....because shaq was called for 3 fouls in 17 seconds in game 1 of the 2008 playoffs....a game the suns lost in overtime.....shaq played about 50 fewer minutes than duncan due to foul trouble....can u explain why kobe cant get by ray or rip in the playoffs?...2 uconn guards who owned him...
kobe has as many finals mvps as billups, and billups schooled kobe this season.....9 three's in kobes eye the last time they played, look it up!!!..just like the 2004 finals....
@FuShengAlex ....hakeems legacy is pretty much being the whipping boy of alltime great gary payton......it doesnt matter that they played different positions.....gary payton scores in the lane....hakeem is #1 alltime in blks....yet gary won that battle time and time again.....hakeem is definitely the whipping boy of gary payton.....if u wanna see ownage and fear in a mans eyes, just watch hakeem while facing THE GLOVE....LOLOLOLOLOLOL
"hakeems legacy is pretty much being the whipping boy of alltime great gary payton......it doesnt matter that they played different positions....."
And Shaq's career legacy is whipping boy of Ben Gordon.....career bench player. Never won a single playoff game vs. him,LOL. Oh yeah Ben Wallace has won 3 of 4 series vs. Shaq.....And he's Center, lol.
@FuShengAlex ...i dont recall ben gordon having a career winning record vs shaq...i dont recall ben gordon eliminating shaq in the playoffs 2 times in his prime...
and yet gary payton had a winning record vs hakeem in the regular season, and eliminated him 2 times in the playoffs...
in the 1996 playoffs, the rockets were 2-time defending champs...the nba title went thru the rockets...then hakeem saw gary payton on the other side...he proceeded to get swept by payton...outscored hakeem, too
..."i dont recall ben gordon having a career winning record vs shaq"
Maybe you don't recall 4 wins to 0 loses vs. Shaq? Or Ben Wallace....THREE PLAYOFF SERIES WINS vs. Shaq. Malone 8-1 vs. Shaq in the playoffs. My gosh Ben Wallace won THREE series vs. Shaq...HAHAHAHA
@FuShengAlex ....why r u posting that nick anderson shot 44% in the 95 postseason.....u forgot to post what he did in the finals....
nick 18-50.... 36%...not even close to being as good as maxwell was in the 94 finals.....maxwell was the rockets best player in game 7.....he is one of the reasons why the rockets won despite hakeem shooting 10-25.....anderson made 9 fgs in game 1 of the 95 finals, then he made 9 fgs in the last 3 games combined......anderson was outscored by horry and elie
@CostCordero ...u cant blame shaq...duncan has had 1 coach since 97,shaq had 3 coaches as a sun, dantoni,porter,gentry......u know how dean smith is the only guy to hold jordan under 20 pts?....well porter is the only guy to hold nash to below 10 apg(as a sun)....after porter was fired, the offense exploded...look it up....i believe 3 consecutive 140 point games...almost as soon as gentry takes over,a season ending injury to amare...when suns beat lakers last yr,shaq had 33 without nash/amare
hakeem age 36, 19 ppg 10 rpg and 1st round exit........u know who he played at 36?.....he played shaq.....so if u say hakeem was still good at 36,that makes it a fair matchup....u admit he could still play...99 playoffs...
shaq 29.5 ppg 10.3 rpg 4.0 apg 4.0 bpg
hakeem 13.3 ppg 7.3 rpg 0.8 apg 0.8 bpg
hakeem was outscored and outrebounded by barkley and pippen!!...yes,both....barkley was great, and he was drafted in 84 too!!...hakeem owned at 36,lmaoo
LOL@Shaq....just reaching for empty stats. If Hakeem were 27 and Shaq 36 there wouldn't have been any different. Shaq at 36 couldn't do anything to stop a 32. yr. old Duncan in '08 or Parker when he got to the rim at will. Hakeem won a Finals MVP, a title while Shaq broke down in tears. Shaq won the right to be swept by Duncan in the following round, lol.
@FuShengAlex ....shaq passed hakeem by his rookie season, thats how great shaq was.....DURING THE 3-PEAT... lakers were 168-52 when shaq played lakers were 13-13 when shaq did not play....AS FOR KOBE.... lakers were 156-58 when kobe played lakers were 25-7 when kobe did not play LAKERS= NOTHING WITHOUT SHAQ.... 06 HEAT... 42-17 WHEN SHAQ PLAYED 10-13 WHEN SHAQ DID NOT PLAY last yr.... 44-31 when shaq played 2-5 when shaq did not play 2004... 49-18 WITH SHAQ 7-8 WITHOUT SHAQ

olajuwon - 2nd greatest center of all time
russell & chamberlain are 2 of the most overrated players in sports history
the only center better than olajuwon was kareem
TheFlexEffect 5 months ago 2
@TheFlexEffect Hakeem is the most complete center in history. No one can compare to him. He dominated every legendary center he played against; old but still great Kareem, prime Ewing, prime Robinson & prime O'Neal. That's 4 of the other 9 best centers ever. Only player to win MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Player with most five by five. Most blocks. Most steals by a center. His 94 Rockets are the only team in the NBA history to win a ring with only ONE All-star. Nuff said.

@yowyOw69 He's def best center ever, however, Mavericks 2011 only had 1 all-star

Man as a player it would be a dream to play w a prime olajuwon. You can take a non athletic player whose slow as hell but have a good jumper and the dream can make his career.
ShaolinSurfer777 9 months ago
It's such a shame what the league did to Hakeem and the Rockets in 1993. Hakeem was the clear MVP that year. Jordan said so and after Barkley got the award, he said he'd have no problem if Hakeem was named the winner. Hakeem was just unreal that year. Some people were calling him the best in the league. In the last game of the season, the Rockets got shafted by the refs when they counted a David Robinson putback at the buzzer (replays showed it was clearly late) which allowed Seattle HCA.

Seeing how this Rockets team worked so well with Hakeem and all, i don't think Jordan would've been able to beat Hakeem and the Rockets in '94...the Bulls barely itched their way through Barkley and the Suns in '93
oneman91 1 year ago 7
@oneman91 Well, Barkleys Suns took Hakeems Rockets to 7 games on both title years, and Barkelys back was on worst shape then, than on the 93 finals. Anyway, that Rockets vs Bulls Finals would have been epic, its a shame it didnt happen. The 2 best players from the era going at it in the greatest stage, can you imagine?!
saturndual32 9 months ago
@oneman91 Barley itched their way thru Barkley & the suns in 93? They won the 1st 2 games in PHX, went up 3-1 in the series & won in 6 games. The suns lost on their home floor all 3 games against the bulls. Btw this is a suns fan sayin this.
hangtime23ful 8 months ago
@hangtime23ful
I never like betting against MJ though =) I thought the Jazz would take them out in '98 and i was wrong
oneman91 8 months ago
@oneman91 Well my bad for makin u think that way. Yes i know it was 10 points or less every game & yes it was a tough series but after game 2 they didn't really itched their way thru em cuz they were up 2-0 goin home. Well i never brought up about the rockets vs bulls in the finals (if it did happen). I don't think the rockets would of won in 94 yes Hakeem would of givin em problems but Jordan & Pippen would of givin the rockets problems. 95 probably due to H.Grant not bein there with the bulls.
hangtime23ful 8 months ago
@oneman91 Remember one thing as good as Karl Malone was in his career. He was never as good as Olajuwon on those Jazz teams. Olajuwon wouldn't be just shooting jump shots. He would have killed Rodman or who ever else they tried to put on him in those series verse the bulls. He would have open up Utah's jump shooters.
arronnov 6 months ago
@oneman91 Beat K.Malone twice, Rodman was gettin owned tryin to guard Kemp in the 96 finals. So Jordan can win with that miss match but then again we will never truly know & it sucks cuz Jordan & Hakeem weren't definitely the 2 best players durin the 90s by far.
hangtime23ful 8 months ago
@oneman91 Yes Hakeem was the best center but the bulls always delted with that miss match yet they won 6 titles (2 3peats). He went up against Ewing severals times with his great defensive team & beat em, beat the frontline of Daughtery & Nance a few times, beat Zo & LJ in the 95 1st rd w/o H.Grant or Rodman & this is when Jordan was comin back from baseball. Swepted Shaq & the magic in 96 (although they probably wouldn't have a swept em due to H.Grant bein injured the ast 3 games).
hangtime23ful 8 months ago
@hangtime23ful None of the teams you mention had Hakeem "the dream" Olajuwon. In NBA history Offensively "The Dream" had as much skill as Jordan or anybody. Jordan score more points because he was selfish shooter in his five yrs. He also was a guard who had the ball in his hands all the time. A Center depends on the guards and the system giving the ball to him. Hakeem was un guard-able as much as Michael Jordan.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Ok a players skill doesn't automatically make em the best ever at something. Hakeem is more skilled than Shaq but Shaq is more unstoppable offensively than Hakeem. Jordan scored that many pts cuz he could score in so many ways & ur "selfish" excuse isn't gonna cut it. Y would the bulls limit a guy like Jordan's fg attempts a game when he shoots has efficient as he does? Heck Jordan has seasons where his fg% was better & he's guard who shot way more 3s when Hakeem's a center.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@arronnov I'm not tryin to diss Hakeem or anything he's one of my fav players ever, he's unbelieveable & very very skilled but sorry he's just not a better scorer than Jordan. U can't penalize Jordan for bein guard btw & he has the efficiency of a big man, if he was a shotjacker like Iverson, T-Mac, Kobe, etc then i could understand. Hakeem's highest ppg season was 27.8 & there r other big man that have higher ppg seasons than that, Jordan has staggerin scorin numbers & i'm sure u know em.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful Jordan was a shot jacker. It easier for a guard to jack up more shots because the ball is in his hands. Hakeem didn't put up more shots than Jordan because teams won't let Hakeem beat them especially with no kind of shooters his first six of seven yrs in Houston. That's why he was asking for a trade in 90. Its easier to double and triple a big men to stop him or force him to pass than a guard.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Do u even know what shotjackin means? It means ur shootin a ton of bricks & missin way more than makin em. Jordan shot over 51% 6 times in his career & 49.7% for his entire career, that's not shotjackin. Yeah & Jordan shot 83-85% from the ft line so what's ur pt? Oh so now where gonna make another excuse right? The league's golden boy, nice one & like i said stop penalizin Jordan for bein a guard. Jordan got double/triple teammed all the time, ever heard of "The Jordan Rules"?
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful Shotjackin to me is when you shoot so much and never really get your team mates involve to a point. The other time realize one man is not going to beat us no matter how many points he scores on us. As far as being double and triple team bringing the ball up or driving to the whole. Jordan chances of getting fouls since he was the golden boy was higher than everybody else who played. I lived in Chicago and watch his early career I know what I saw.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov So was it Jordan's fault if he got so many calls for em? Was it Shaq's fault for the refs not callin offensive fouls when we all know he did make offensive fouls that weren't called? What about Wade in the 06 finals? It doesn't mean the other players r better scorers just cuz they don't get as many superstar calls as the other. Every superstar gets superstar calls & yes Jordan did get calls for em but big deal so did every other superstar.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful Let's not forget that Jordan got calls like nobody in his first 8yrs. They both came into together in 84. Hakeem would get beat to death like Shaq and wouldn't get the calls. Shaq lived at the line and couldn't shoot for shit. Hakeem could hit his ft at a 70 to 75% rate. Lets remember Jordan was the leagues Golden boy. The league has changed in the past 30yrs. The leading scores are the majority of the times going to be a guard or small forward.
arronnov 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful Hakeem was the best defensive player in NBA history. 1# in blocks and 7# in steals all-time. His offensive a thing of beauty with speed quickness strength power finesse and moves equivalent to a Swiss army knife or full tools box. That man had 10 with 20 counter moves which total 30 moves. He could hit jumpers and probably threes if was allowed to shoot more often the line.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Y r u bringin up defense? That has nothin to do with scorin & yes i know about Hakeem's D. U can have so many moves offensively but if someone is more consistent than u at scorin then ur a better scorer simple as that. A player's physical gift, althetic ability, talent sometimes just might cause em to be a better scorer. Like i said there r other centers that have had better ppg seasons than Hakeem so ur exuse about Jordan bein a guard & Hakeem bein a center won't work.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@arronnov Shaq got double/triple teammed more than Hakeem did thru out their career so big deal. I know great Hakeem is on O & D with his awesome skillset, u don't need to put words in my mouth.
Idk if knicks would of won or lost. If u wanna ask unreality questions then answer this if Jordan was on the suns team in 94 & 95 would the rockets lose to the suns? See its easy to put a guy in someone elses shoes & have the other team win. We don't & won't ever know.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful My point being is Ewing was no Hakeem. The bulls really didn't double or triple team him the post in those series.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov That may be ur opinion on shotjackin but what i said about shotjackin is the definition of what it really means & what everyone else uses when talkin about a shotjacker. A better word for Jordan would be ball hogger or whatever. But u know what? That ball hoggin led the bulls to 6 titles.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful No what led to the bulls to 6 titles was getting so better talent around and trust in his teammates. No person wins all by himself. Hakeem and Sampson made to the finals in 86 with the weakest guards I've every seen. Hakeem avg 26pg12rbg4blk and Sampson didn't do shit. Mind you Boston had 3 hall of famers on that frontline. The Celtics had Bird Mchale Parrish but they also had a team that they trusted and did their jobs.
arronnov 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team],I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position.
arronnov 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots.People don't realize he was in the top seven in steals. He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game,I have to give it to him.
—Michael Jordan
These words come from Jordan himself and we know Jordan never like giving credit to any other player. He knew Hakeem was good.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Yes the bulls did get more talent around em but Jordan was still leadin the league in scorin when they won all 6 of those titles. Yes i know how great Hakeem is & i know that quote from Jordan & i agree with em. Y r u assumin i don't think that Hakeem was great? What is the main pt ur tryin to make here?
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful My point original point was those Rockets teams would have beat those bulls teams even with Jordan in 94 and 95.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Then y didn't u say that in the 1st place instead of sayin a bunch stuff about Jordan & Hakeem individually? How do u know the rockets would of beatin the bulls in 94 & 95 if Jordan didn't leave? The bulls won 55 games without em in 94 & were a BS call away from makin it to the ECF & they could have beatin the pacers. It took the rockets 7 games to beat a team that a non Jordan bulls should of beatin. Just think if Jordan was there in 94, things would of been totally different.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago

Thats who Jordan was he pounded on people at his HOF speech.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Y would it kill Jordan to say sometihing good about another player? Players do that all the time with other players, its a common thing dude.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago
@hangtime23ful Dude I'm from Chicago. Jordan didn't like giving props to anybody especially if they where good and he knew it.
arronnov 6 months ago
@arronnov Also ur comment on shotjackin. Not gettin players involved, Jordan avg'd 8apg in one season & avg'd 5-6 in some other seasons. For the amount of shots he takes that's gettin ur teammates involved. His 1st option was to score cuz he was so dominate at it, that's y he took so many shots cuz he had the best balance of skillset & athleticsm. Don't get me wrong Hakeem is up there with Jordan in those aspects but he's not a better scorer than Jordan.
hangtime23ful 6 months ago

2 things that amaze me about Hakeem...
TyroneNBAFan 1 year ago
@TyroneNBAFan
Thing about Hakeem was although he was smaller, he was strong with a really good base. People were too awed by the moves to forget just how physical he was in the paint. Only guy he couldn't bump off in the post was Shaq.
adventuregrub 1 year ago
@TyroneNBAFan Olajuwon was 6'11'' and those mentioned centers were all above 7 foot . When he won nba championship in 94' he didnt have Drexler but he had Veronon Maxwell , Kenny Smith , Otis Thorpe , Mario Elie , Sam Cassell and Robert Horry . None of them were great players but together they made preety doog crew .

And he swept him btw...
flight23magic32 1 year ago
@shaqpopcorn34 And about Magic outrebounding Dream, u shouldnt forget that Magic was a pg in a pf body...and he's the best rebounding guard I've ever seen (I havent seen the big O play). And about Ostertag u shouldn't forget that he's a starting NBA center too and thus he mustnt be so bad...plus the sun shines even in dog's butt and anybody can get lucky on an any given day!
flight23magic32 1 year ago
@shaqpopcorn34 Oh and btw I'm a Knicks fan but I still consider Dream a better center than Ewing and even though I love Shaq daddy...he's the strongest player I've ever seen, he can handle and pass the ball like a guard but he can never be compared to Dream cuz when Shaq won his 3 chips the only other guy really worth talking about playing under the basket is Tim Duncan...cuz Kevin Garnett and C-Webb also played in the perimeter...and Vlade and K-Mart were never superstars...
flight23magic32 1 year ago
@shaqpopcorn34 And Shaq can never be compared to Dream cuz he never had the moves Olajuwon did under the basket. The only guy with good enough moves around the basket to be compared to Dream is Kevin McHale and probably Tim Duncan. McHale Had More "Post Moves"...Hakeem Had Better Foot Work" but not "Whole Body Moves" than McHale
AceroySangre 2 years ago
whoa.....come on........really......really....everyone is entitled to their own opinion....but this one is far-fetched.
kaoticperfection 2 years ago
McHale was certainly a great player, but honestly, comparing him to Hakeem as a post player is apples to oranges. McHale didn't have the athleticism or agility to do many of the things Hakeem could do.
Sierra688 2 years ago
Hakeem was a better player... i hope u konw that. McHale had more post moves but Hakeem post moves are more deadly. Hakeem had a whole team on his back while McHale was hanging off Bird's dick. that mean he gets less double teams and better looks.
TheHNIC88 2 years ago 7
Agree
AceroySangre 2 years ago
@TheHNIC88 Let's actually watch a Celtics game first before we say something like that, shall we? I'm not saying that McHale was better than Olajuwon, but to say that he got less double teams and better looks is ridiculous. He was doubled almost constantly and the post moves he put on display were the best of the best. Hakeem's strength and athleticism certainly helped him develop some deadly moves, but when it came down to sheer operation on the low block, no one was better than Mchale. No one.
toomuchfails 2 years ago
Hakeem operated the low block more effectively then McHale. McHales might be more polished but just saying he's GOD under the block in general is just crazy. I watch a few Celtics games and by saying Mchale gets double teamed like Hakeem night in and out is wrong. McHale gets a lot of his buckets from Bird's set ups as well.
TheHNIC88 2 years ago
@TheHNIC88 What I was saying was that McHale has always had the best moves down low. Does this mean he was the most efficient? Not quite. Hakeem was extremely efficient because of his strength and athleticism combined with the moves he would go on to develop. Back then doubling the post man was the norm, both Hakeem and McHale would have about 2 or 3 post dribbles before the help defense came. I would agree that Bird was a better set up man than anyone on Hakeem's team though.
toomuchfails 2 years ago
You're a moron. mchale is no wehre near the level of "The Dream."
biddybizzell 2 years ago
@biddybizzell Sure, sure. I was enjoying an intelligent conversation (though the other party seems to have left me halfway). No need for hate messages when I have legitimate reasons to believe McHale's post moves were on Hakeem's plane. Notice how I never claimed that McHale was as good an overall player as Hakeem. I was just defending his post moves and disagreeing with the overly simplistic view that he was never doubled or rarely doubled.
toomuchfails 2 years ago
@TheHNIC88 Mchale was a foward and Olajuwon was a center , they cannot be compared . Mchale had the best post moves ever and to say Olajuwon post moves were more deadly is stupidity . You never watched Mchale play . Also give the man a credit , Mchale had 26 ppg in one season , thats very high if youre 2nd star player in the team . Imagine his stats if he was in some weaker team .
garioldwin 1 year ago
@garioldwin McHale was deserves to be in the HOF but he doesn't deserve to be compared to Hakeem. McHale never showed the ability to carry his team. As Bird's back was giving him problems, the Celtics championship run came to an end with a healthy McHale.
McHale & Hakeem both had an incredible # of post moves but the dream shake was almost as unblockable as Kareem's sky hook.
srsh12345 10 months ago
@srsh12345 You should do more research . McHale injured his foot in 87' playoff's but still continued to play after he was suggested by his doctors to rest in the entire playoffs . After that injury he was never the same . Kareem's skyhook wasnt unblockable , i saw Wilt blocking it clearly in some vids 3 or 4 times .
garioldwin 10 months ago
@garioldwin You're one of those literal ppl. Yes there is no such thing as an unblockable shot.
The Sky Hook was the most difficult shot in basketball to block. If you can't acknowledge this ... then there's no point in even continuing the conversation. Hakeem's dream shake because of his exquisite foot work was almost as difficult to stop. McHale also has plenty of low-post moves but he always had Bird on the Floor. Kareem & Hakeem suceeded as the #1 options on offense.
srsh12345 10 months ago
@srsh12345 I have never said that the sky hook wasnt the most difficult shot in basketball to block , that is unquestionable . I said its not unblockable . So what is McHale had Bird ? When he got the ball in the low post he was alone , one on one or even a lot of times double teamed .
garioldwin 10 months ago
Hakeem, the greatest post moves in basketball history, I put him in front of McHale by a nose.
MerkinMuffly 2 years ago 9
mchale was good, but hakeem was a different breed entirely. i'll bleed green until i die but as far as centers go, olajuwon played with such intensity it's hard not to like him. best center of the modern era and the closest thing we'll see that compares to bill russell.
phishhead11 2 years ago
I agree , except that Mchale is PF not a center
Soundtrack1000 2 years ago
More than a nose. Did McHale win DPOY? Hell, did McHale even win an MVP?
No and NO.
clutchcity25 2 years ago
merk, i always say it, hakeem may not have the consistent longevity or the accolades of kareem & shaq (the 2 centers i rank above him only) , but when he was healthy & n his prime (1993-97) there wasn't a more complete center (or arguably player) than hakeem olajuwon on both sides of the ball
CostCordero 2 years ago 3
FuShengAlex 2 years ago
i dont think u could blame shaq 4 last year's debacle n phoe, shaq had a great season last year, especially considering he only played 30 min a game - this year he's only playing 23 min a game & 1nce again his #'s r great: per 36 min last year n phoe? 21.3 pts, 10 reb - this year n clev? 18 pts & 11 rebs - shaq is having a great season & he's out-played every top center he's played against this year, including dwight howard
CostCordero 2 years ago
Cost....I am not "blaming" Shaq per-se for last year, he played great....the point is Hakeem scored and rebounded better than he did at the same age.
CLE? They're 5-1 in games Shaq didn't play, he's on a talented young team that can easily mask the decline in his game. He's with the best best passing forward (if not player) in the NBA. Dream at 36 was stuck on a aging team and posting better numbers than Shaq last year. Of course Shaq made it this far with the amount of time he's...
FuShengAlex 2 years ago
.....1/2 assed it and gave a 1/2 hearted effort, he mailed it in in Miami.
FuShengAlex 2 years ago
there definitely is truth n ur posts fu, i 2 question his motives over the years 2 leave teams & find greener pastures - but again, i cant deny his effectiveness, & remember, dream posted better #'s - but only bcuz he played more minutes per when comparing their productivity at age 36: dream 18.9 pts & 9.6 reb n 36 min per game, shaq 18 pts & 9 reb n just 30 min per - & yes shaq is blessed 2 play with lebron - but wasnt kareem blessed 2 play with magic? shaq oldest player 2 ever shoot .550%
CostCordero 2 years ago
Cost....I think you KNOW in your heart if Shaq played on those 86,94 & 95 Rocket teams in Olajuwons place....not only would he have NOT won a title....but none of those 3 teams would've made it to the Finals.
Hakeem would've won all 4 (and maybe more) of those rings that Shaq won in LA/MIA....and I don't see if you flipped the ages in the 95 Finals a 32 yr. old Shaq sweeping a 23 yr. old Olajuwon in his 2nd playoffs on the road.
