it was funny how the professor lady reluctantly admitted that the "female's brain is generally smaller- but we both know that that has no differences!" but oh yes it does!
very interesting - but they overdid the praising imo. surely she's a very smart woman who has enviable abilities, but when they said she's a leading contender for the world title, they just lied. judit has an elo of ~2700 while a world class male player like anand has ~2800. she does a good job at men's world championships, but just isn't able to come through.
Yes ofcourse women can become good Chess players but the fact is she was taught in a unique manner. Males are consistently better at playing chess...that is a fact that cant be shifted unless all females suddenly have male brains.
If a boy was to learn the same method as she was given then I would presume no one would make such a big fuss over it
@MrGrandDragon: There is a study by Mark Glickman (a chess master, with a PhD in statistics) which determined that males only do better at chess because they stick with it longer. Under the same regime of training boys and girls do equally well Girls just don't *want* to do well, or work hard to become good chess players -- it doesn't appeal to them.
The solution was to make all-girls chess clubs. An atmosphere of girl-solidarity was formed simultaneously and it works well.
@hydrosbon: At the time this documentary was made, Judit probably was a contender (she's been ranked as high as 7th and took part in the tournament that decided Topalov's crown.) She has fallen in the charts recently, probably due to motherhood and also due to the rise of other stars.
This was a wonderful series and I am glad to have come across it. I hope it will be featured on the Chess Channel. Charell Williams. Free & Accepted Mason.
*Highly* inspirational for someone like me, studying hard to try to develop a skill in chess. Susan is a rare item, a chess master with class.

He took his mother's last name. Living up the family name, I suppose.

I am curious about one aspect. I wonder if they did a scan on regular players and if they received a similar result or if the result was different.

Interesting that her brain uses the same area to play chess as what is used to recognize faces.

i wouldn't say that! grandmasters like vlastimil hort believe that one day women will be just as good as men, if not better.

There you go with that obscene wishful comment.
