Why, why aren't there any singers on today's music scene that place such great emphasis on lyrics and phrasing? Matt Monroe was one of the masters. He, like Sinatra, believed that the lyrics dictated the delivery. Though both of them respected the orchestration, they both saw the music as a prop for the lyrics.
