LOL...humans are so funny...us against the rats...they'll always "win" because they live in concert and we do not. Actually, rats are amazing little animals...I'd HIGHLY recommend one as a domestic friend (pet)...they're very smart, interactive, and affectionate...like tiny, low-maintenance dogs.

No, rats are cute and cuddly. They merely cause plague and a few other nice, enjoyable diseases. They also perform a very useful function by eating up all grain stores.

Pet rats today didn't even carry the plague. 'Rattus Rattus' did. The pet rats originated in China, but came to other countries on a Norwegan(spelling?) ship. Thus, 'Rattus Norevegus'(spelling?) came. Some say it was Rattus Norevegus that stopped the plague. Rats didn't even cause the plague, fleas did.

Methinks Nova and National geographic are being sponsored by biocide companies, this looks like a biocide propaganda advert to me. The rats coming to the area is a natural phenomena which has occured every 48 years for thousands of years. Its only very recently that foreigners have gone in and insisted that the people kill the rats, yet the people have been peacefully watching this phenomena for centuries. Its all just to sell more biocides, and will cause much more harm than good.

Are you better informed than the Center for Disease Control or the entire World Health Organization? They both indicate that rats can spread the deadly Hanta Virus as well as the bubbonic plague (which killed MILLIONS aka Back Plague) and many other diseases. Rats are a perfect mammal. Their physical features have changed little from the original mammals that walked this earth that we ourselves evolved from. I have two as pets and they truely are fascinating and most of all intelligent creatures. But I do understand people's concerns over millions of them, my two have all ready caused about £100+ worth of damage : (

bamboo plants dying after flowering is just normal. they are monocarpic plants, they die once they bear flowers. that's why bamboo flowers are very rare.

Wrong. My mom works for a company that goes into areas affected like this and giant Knotweed and such and runs tests to find what wouldn't damage the ecosystem of that area but would eliminate the pests.
