It also passes between your phospholipid barrier of your cells through touch exposure. Methyl mercury is 1000s of times more toxic than elemental mercury but that doesnt mean elemental mercury isnt toxic. You absolute idiot.

@wolfgang169 Mercury isn't as toxic as the media has cracked it up to be. Danger is only when a) you eat it, or b) you inhale the vapors. It is a good idea to be in a well ventilated area when using mercury. In short, use common sense and you'll be fine.

I have some from a thermostat, its in a glass tube. Interesting rolling it around and how it wets the 2 wires inside. Its a good size of metal inside, and just fun rolling it from side to side in the tube. THe tube is sealed, so its pretty safe and amusing to play with. Such thermostats are not made anymore, and illegal to dispose of the mercury if upgrading. My parents upgraded the old one in the basement, and kept the mercury.
