The MAX you can get a stat is a total of 999. It doesn't go higher. It's still a lot though.

It didn't take down registeel because first of all: its NOT "2000 attack power" and second of all, his registeel probably has 31 IV's in hp and defense along with both of those ev trained to 252. Your azumarill's attack power is only like 600+ which is considerable but registeel is a beast especially with the above reasons i mentioned (if the enemy chose to do that which i think he did).
