Very impressive - how on earth do you adapt an alternate tuning to a cover like that? I assume you use a tuning specifically for this cover. If so how do you figure out which one to use?

You just have to mess around with it until it sounds right. The structure of the song doesn't change, even if the key does. A lot of the fun in playing with open/alternate tunings is figuring out how to make a song you already know in a way that you've never played it before.

Although it looks like he's just playing it in drop-D.

I'm using D Reverse. I think it's D A E G B E. I've been using this tuning for a few years, and while it isn't as versatile as regular tuning I still like it a lot.
