Carfax is a ripoff for so many reasons! If you are thinking about buying reports from them do at least 5 minutes of research on "problems with carfax."

Wouldn't buying a jacked up car for thousands of dollars be a bigger ripoff than paying $25 for a CARFAX report or getting it free from a dealer? Sure, they don't have EVERYTHING. How could they? Does your credit report have EVERYBODY you ever stiffed? Probably not. The info is useful and fairly comprehensive though, and it's a supplement to, not a replacement for a pre-purchase mechanic's inspection.

@borodani It's not a rip off, it shows maintenance records and you need that! It isn;t perfect, it can miss accidents but getting the carfax and having a mech look at it is hell a of a lot better than crossing your fingers.
