  • @THANOSKANUN .. Hi .. there are many great artists .. I personally like Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (greatest exponent of thumris ) , Pandit Jasraj , Ustad Rashid Khan , Ustad Rajan and Sajan MIshra , Ustad Amir Khan .

In female singers , Kishori Amonkar , Begum Akhtar , Parveen Sultana stand out . I am just mentioning just my preferences . There are lots of great artists.

  • ...make that: the first time, ....

  • the first tiem I heard this lady (on radio 6/Concertradio or BBC 3, I'm not sure) she completely blew me off my feet! Incredible! Bedankt voor het plaatsen, Pieter. Can anybody tell me what the song is about?

  • Hi, Thanks for ur response. I don't know the exact words and meaning of the lyrics, but the famous 'Raga Guide' (Nimbus Records) reveals that "Multani is an afternoon raag with a solemn, compassionate mood" and Kaushiki explained me that the raag is "very quiet and sorrowful in nature" and that "its main mood is pathos". Predominant in the lyrics is someone's frustration about somebody who's gone, so a feeling of loss is emphasized throughout the raag. Hope this helps.

  • Actually, the wording of the raag pieces is not very crucial; to the structure of the Raag. It is secondary to the raaga moods, which can be created even without words. I am not saying words are relevant, but far less important than in other forms of music.

    She could have fooled us!

  • @k6l11h58 .. As far as I can understand this song is a homage to Goddess Durga , but the main point here is the skill level she displays . RESPECT !

  • Oh I love it! Thank you, Pieter, for posting this masterpiece here! The Indian people radiate a very special positive shining energy and these artists especially DO it! I´m trying to study ayurveda and know some Indian doctors, they are so amazing, peaceful, humble but THE BEST! And so it is with these artists...beautiful! Natali

  • wah wah wah! mai sadqe jawo kia bat hei. thank u allot for posting thise video I love it.

  • An Outstanding performance. Thanks for posting this in response to my video.

  • She is amazing. I saw her twice in the DC area at some private mehfils and she was breathtaking. She sang a Raag Malkauns that was insane.

  • Pt Bhimsen has also sung the drut bandish "Nainan mein aan ban", an excerpt of that is available on uTube, do give it a listen.

  • Comment removed

  • I hope the comment is not for Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Those are some of the most gorgeous taans that I have heard for Multani.

  • kya baat hai !!!

  • I have no idea about what she is singing but it's amazing what she's doing with her voice lol

  • she's actually not saying anything she's just singing notes sort of like 'do re mi.' Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • she's improvising with notes and the sound 'a' (akar) in the beginning, in the last portion she also uses words of the composition. But I guess nocojest meant he doesn't know about the kind of music... this is Hindustani classical vocal music, genre:khyal, style:Patiala-Kasur gharana.

  • One more very good posting by you and one more from Kaushiki. Many thanks

  • Absolutely beautiful. Please post more raga multani performances, by any great artist!
