he is like a mathmetician, precise, accurate but boring as fuck, whereas jimmy hendrix was like a chemist. also precise and accurate but blew shit up with his soulful music
People need to start enjoying life, live and let live, if you dig the tune awesome, if you dont awesome, if you think Jimi is a god, awesome, if you think he is just another guitarist, awesome.
I have heard both Yingwie saying Jimi is noise and one interview he said he was one of his main inspirations. Who knows? Its all a matter of opinion, who gives a fuck if he thinks Jimi is noise, that's his right too. I am not a huge Yingwie fan, "I never played Yingwie riffs" but I wouldn't mind playing a few of his songs I enjoy. I find most shred guitar "noise" but sometimes it can be beautiful.
As has been said, Malmsteen puts Jimi down in one sentence then plays in 'tribute' acts to him. He said Hendrix was 'noise' - despite backtracking later.
The guy is a no-mark compared to Jimi.
Joe Satriani acknowledges Jimi's mastery of the guitar, Malmsteen is a clown who thinks that electronic wizardry (shredding) constitutes guitar playing.
Stevie Vai is also a major fan. Two out of three ain't bad.
@freegie27 There is one full video from his earlier days where he calls Hendrix "The Jesus of rock Guitar" and cites him as his one major influence, then another later where he is talking about the guitar smashing and says the music didn't influence him at all, it was just noise. Personally I think he has sort of gone off his rocker(Tbh he is fucking insane now lol...drugs?) in his later years, but I think the quote everyone likes to throw around has been taken out of context.
@AIOICBigD Either way this video was done closer to the time of the not-insane-drugged-out-yngwie, this one liked Hendrix alot. Crazy-old-man-drug-brain-Yngwie hates the world though. I think there needs to be a distinction lol...He was actually a phenomenal musician early on, but now he is...well he isn't. Did not age well at fucking all :o
This guy really pisses me off! just before this vid i watched one where he said hendrix never influenced him musically and that he was just noise not music, this guy is now officially on my guitarist shit list i dont care how fast he plays!
Some of these replies make me sad, this is a tribute to Jimi! wtf is anyone getting uptight because he is doing a cover of Jimi, throwing his own flavor in and having fun?
Hendrix did many covers, I dont hear anyone ever flipping tits because he added his own style to a tune...
Jimi loved music and respected talented musicians and I'm sure he would be sadden and disappointed by all the hate and trash talk about this tribute.
@PurpleLightning6was9 He said he didn't start off by playing Hendrix, and that though seeing him on smashing and burning his guitar inspired him to pick up the guitar, he didn't influence him musically. Did you even watch the video of him talking about that or did you just read the title?
he said hendrix was not music but noise , check for yourself /watch?v=Rpx0JAwph_c ....YJM is probably the most overrated famous guitar player of all time!

Funny... i got here from watching a video of him claiming he never played Hendrix because he thought that there was 'no real feeling' and all Hendrix did was smash guitars. Dumb-ass
@TheAngelofThrash He has said in an early career interview that Hendrix was the main inspiration for him to pick up the guitar and play. Hendrix and J.S Bach. He have made loads of tributes to both of them during hi's career. So stop hating mate. Besides. This is a lovely tribute to a great legend from a great líving legend.
Ya the guys great and so full of himself it ruins his image...anyhow all the BS talk about how great he is, he is a great player and so far from what I see he's the worlds best COVER BAND ...writing great musics half the battle.
@Arenovalis type in yngwie malmsteen interview in the search box and click on the video that says i never played hendrix riffs....... i know hes probably one of your idols n all but this dudes kind of a fake to say that.....i still believe he has talent no disrespect though but just sayin hes kind of a hipocritical person
@Arenovalis check Yngwie Malmsteen - I Never Played Hendrix Riffs (2 of 3)..he said it maybe was true when he was a child, but later he stared to play jimi!!
*The fucker* is playing Hendrix great, and this is THE BEST COVER OF *PH*! He really has radiated Jimi's *vibe* at this concert ...but was played two decades ago, and he was SOOOO STONED, like Jimi use to be stoned most of the time. Yngwie couldn't play with such an energy today...that's 100% sure! And that energy made this clip to be viewed million times (I could play PH pretty good, but 100 guitar fans would like to see me, because I can not radiate like Jimi and Yngwie)

no one can cover hendrix without being bashed, its fucking silly. jimi would love to see people cover his work and maybe even add their own zen to it, thats pretty much whats jimi did with bb kind and chuck berry
I like how I just watched another video by him where he said, quote"I never played Hendrix licks, I never was influenced musically by Hendrix, it wasn't music, it was noise" and here the fucker is playing Hendrix...
@brightstarone he probably wasn't. He's such an ego maniac that he probably got wind of people comparing his playing to music with "feel" and felt like making a huge joke about it to prove he could do it.
@xXVintersorgXx That could be, but I'll tell you what he can never do. He could never innovate in his technique and musical expression the way that Jimi Hendrix did. Jimi Hendrix was such a powerful artist that he elevated the guitar and the way the guitar players play the guitar today. He had a little over three years as a celebrated musician and 40 years after his death people still compare and compete with a man long since dead, that is a measure of the impact that Jimi Hendrix had. RIP Jimi.
@brightstarone you are probably one of those people who doesn't like or listen to classical music. Its very hard to compare a neo-classical genius to a rock and roll idol. Hendrix was way ahead of his time but that does not mean he was an incredible musician. Many artists in my opinion have surpassed Jimi, yet he Innovated like you said. I for one thought this was a pretty funny cover. He probably just wanted to light his guitar on fire
@xXVintersorgXx I listen to any kind of music that appeals to me, it could be Classical/Rock/country/Jazz/Blues/Asian/African/Brazillian...etc..etc... There is a lot that appeals to me and a lot that doesn't. But my mind is always open to any kind of musical expression. You should not make blind assumptions, it may be easy but not necessarily accurate. Hendrix elevated the Guitar with his undeniable talent on the Guitar using the technology of his day. To compare him with musicians of this day -
@brightstarone - who have the advantage of todays more beneficial technological advantages... computer chips..locking tuning devices... updated electronics...etc compared to the primitive technologies that Hendrix had to contend with 40 years ago. But to make the comparison 40 years after his death is proof of not only his obvious technical Guitar Playing & preformance talents but also of his creative talents. One can not know precisely what more he would have done with todays advantages -
@brightstaroneis incorrect because the comparison is flawed. I personally believe that because Hendrix was an amazing and inventive innovator that he would have adapted to todays technological advantages & surpassed todays musicians in his musical expression & technique just as he did when he was alive 40 years ago. But that is all supposition because he is unfortunately; DEAD. Having said that, I can say that I feel comfortable with my supposition because his talent was powerful & self-evident.
@brightstarone When he first started off he said that he wasn't influenced by Hendrix's playing, in a very early interview, but he was quoted saying that when he saw Hendrix light his guitar on fire that's what inspired him to first pick it up. Not the music. The fact that he covered this song 25 years after the interview is totally irrelevant because IT IS A COVER..
What are you talking about? He is obviously playing in the Hendrix style and that can be heard in his playing, he even plays a white stratocaster, to say that their is absolutely positively no influence from Hendrix, not even a tiny- tee-nee bit is absurd. But if you dis-agree then that is fine by me I don't care. But the fact still is and will always be, that Hendrix did more to elevate the guitar, influenced & still influences millions around the world 40 years after his death.
@brightstarone He plays in a Hendrix style? Maybe in this cover BECAUSE IT'S A COVER... Have you even heard an Yngwie Malmsteen song? Hendrix style?! Hahaha! He's a classically influenced guitarist, man! He plays a white stratocaster? So fucking what? There's only so many colours mate, to say he is copying Hendrix because he plays the same coloured stratocaster is stupid. Hendrix has influenced more people, I never disputed that. He is probably the greatest figure in modern rock.
@tompascoew I never said that he copied Hendrix, what I meant was that I don't believe that Hendrix had absolutely no influence on him what so ever, even if it is something as insignificant as the type of guitar that he allways plays. That is my personal opinion, you have a different opinion so what? Why are you so concerned about my personal opinion? Are you one of those blow hards that likes to argue just to prove he's right? Is it that important for you to be LORD RIGHT? We dis-agree so what
@brightstarone Hendrix also had a red & black strat, excuse me whilst I go and find every person with a white, black, and red stratocaster and tell them that they are copying Hendrix.
I liked this guy right up to 2:43, when the Mother Fucker broke the guitar I've never been able to afford, and wasted part of the tree that was cut down to make it. A guitar that could have put a smile on an Ethiopian child's face, potentially gifting the world with another Chuck Berry.
I usually don't like (the most accurate spelling would be "i usually hate") Yngwie's playing. On this video he's awesome, i just don't dig neoclasic, that's it, i'm no one to call him or anybody else (such as kirk hammet, slash etc) a lame guitarist, i can say guitarists are in my opinion over rated, i can say i don't like them, i can say one is faster than another, but it's art people, SUBJECTIVE!
@TheAlphafly Nobody can be as great as Jimi, and nobody can be as great as Yngwie either. Why? Because... nobody is Jimi in the first place, and nobody is Yngwie in the first place. They're both unique in their own passions, nobody will never ever be able to do a perfect copy of any guitarist, ever.
@TheAlphafly You're right, nobody will ever be able to be as great as Jimi. Nobody will ever be able to be as great as Yngwie either. Why? Because... nobody is Jimi in the first place, and nobody is Yngwie in the first place. They are both unique in their own passions. Nobody will never ever be able to do a perfect copy of them, or any other musician out there, it's simply impossible.
@TheAlphafly You're right, nobody will ever be able to be as great as Jimi. Nobody will ever be able to be as great as Yngwie either. Why? Congratulations mate. You just won my award for the thickest and the most ignorant fucking comment of the day. The guy pioneered the way just about 95% of the planets guitarists play, yet he couldn't play himself? Aye very good! How about you have some idea about what you're talking about next time? Moron!
The reason why he let the solo go so far into meaninglessness was b/c that is how he viewed Hendrix, as "just noise." Great musicians listen to more than the "hits" of an artist before they label them. Most of the insanity that Hendrix did with feedback was purposeful. (Listen to "If 6 was 9" and you'll hear the studio product of that tweaking) Yngwie is a man who went to rock after Bach, he kept some of the snobbery that comes with that in my opinion.
@ohshammyitspork That may be true, but for his craft, Hendrix was undeniably ahead of his time, and thats what it was all about. At least to him probably. The more drugs you tend to sprinkle in there, ideals become distorted I guess
@ohshammyitspork "Yngwie is a man who went to rock after Bach, he kept some of the snobbery that comes with that in my opinion."
Really?!? If Malmsteen grew his fingernails and played that "Bach" shit on a Classical guitar like it supposed to be played, then I can justify his alleged snobbery. In my opinion, Malmsteen is just a Rock guitarist/musician, and a great one at that. But please, keep Bach out of the equation, or you may hear some stern feedback from the Classical community...
@orange70383 "Just how bad does he want to be Ritchie Blackmore anyway."
Ritchie Blackmore?!? I don't think so.
It's obvious that Al Di Meola was an influence in his playing, based on some of his alternate-picking riffs - especially evident in his early Rising Force tapes - an era when Al Di Meola was the primary speedster after an illustrious career with RTF in the 70's. However, Malmsteen chooses not to mention it...
he is like a mathmetician, precise, accurate but boring as fuck, whereas jimmy hendrix was like a chemist. also precise and accurate but blew shit up with his soulful music

trippiest guitarist ever and the video's length is 4:20.. coincidence?
NewfoundNothing 3 months ago
I like how I just watched another video by him where he said, quote"I never played Hendrix licks, I never was influenced musically by Hendrix, it wasn't music, it was noise" and here the fucker is playing Hendrix...
MDizzle3282 3 months ago 44
@MDizzle3282
Yeah I saw that too.
He basically immitated everything that Hendrix did; in this video.
He says "I was never influenced musically by Hendrix" then he does Hendrix's act.
I think that is what is known as an Oxy-Moron.
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone he probably wasn't. He's such an ego maniac that he probably got wind of people comparing his playing to music with "feel" and felt like making a huge joke about it to prove he could do it.
xXVintersorgXx 3 months ago
@xXVintersorgXx That could be, but I'll tell you what he can never do. He could never innovate in his technique and musical expression the way that Jimi Hendrix did. Jimi Hendrix was such a powerful artist that he elevated the guitar and the way the guitar players play the guitar today. He had a little over three years as a celebrated musician and 40 years after his death people still compare and compete with a man long since dead, that is a measure of the impact that Jimi Hendrix had. RIP Jimi.
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone you are probably one of those people who doesn't like or listen to classical music. Its very hard to compare a neo-classical genius to a rock and roll idol. Hendrix was way ahead of his time but that does not mean he was an incredible musician. Many artists in my opinion have surpassed Jimi, yet he Innovated like you said. I for one thought this was a pretty funny cover. He probably just wanted to light his guitar on fire
xXVintersorgXx 3 months ago
@xXVintersorgXx I listen to any kind of music that appeals to me, it could be Classical/Rock/country/Jazz/Blues/Asian/African/Brazillian...etc..etc... There is a lot that appeals to me and a lot that doesn't. But my mind is always open to any kind of musical expression. You should not make blind assumptions, it may be easy but not necessarily accurate. Hendrix elevated the Guitar with his undeniable talent on the Guitar using the technology of his day. To compare him with musicians of this day -
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone - who have the advantage of todays more beneficial technological advantages... computer chips..locking tuning devices... updated electronics...etc compared to the primitive technologies that Hendrix had to contend with 40 years ago. But to make the comparison 40 years after his death is proof of not only his obvious technical Guitar Playing & preformance talents but also of his creative talents. One can not know precisely what more he would have done with todays advantages -
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstaroneis incorrect because the comparison is flawed. I personally believe that because Hendrix was an amazing and inventive innovator that he would have adapted to todays technological advantages & surpassed todays musicians in his musical expression & technique just as he did when he was alive 40 years ago. But that is all supposition because he is unfortunately; DEAD. Having said that, I can say that I feel comfortable with my supposition because his talent was powerful & self-evident.
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone When he first started off he said that he wasn't influenced by Hendrix's playing, in a very early interview, but he was quoted saying that when he saw Hendrix light his guitar on fire that's what inspired him to first pick it up. Not the music. The fact that he covered this song 25 years after the interview is totally irrelevant because IT IS A COVER..
Yngwie's own music is NOT influenced by Hendrix.
tompascoew 3 months ago
@tompascoew
But the fact still is and will always be, that Hendrix did more to elevate the guitar, influenced & still influences millions around the world 40 years after his death.
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone He plays in a Hendrix style? Maybe in this cover BECAUSE IT'S A COVER... Have you even heard an Yngwie Malmsteen song? Hendrix style?! Hahaha! He's a classically influenced guitarist, man! He plays a white stratocaster? So fucking what? There's only so many colours mate, to say he is copying Hendrix because he plays the same coloured stratocaster is stupid. Hendrix has influenced more people, I never disputed that. He is probably the greatest figure in modern rock.
tompascoew 3 months ago
@tompascoew I never said that he copied Hendrix, what I meant was that I don't believe that Hendrix had absolutely no influence on him what so ever, even if it is something as insignificant as the type of guitar that he allways plays. That is my personal opinion, you have a different opinion so what? Why are you so concerned about my personal opinion? Are you one of those blow hards that likes to argue just to prove he's right? Is it that important for you to be LORD RIGHT? We dis-agree so what
brightstarone 3 months ago
@brightstarone Hendrix also had a red & black strat, excuse me whilst I go and find every person with a white, black, and red stratocaster and tell them that they are copying Hendrix.
tompascoew 3 months ago
@tompascoew
Please make a list of your findings and report back how many people you found and told that they copied Hendrix.
It is a very important matter, don't forget to post your findings on the blogosphere.

The reason why he let the solo go so far into meaninglessness was b/c that is how he viewed Hendrix, as "just noise." Great musicians listen to more than the "hits" of an artist before they label them. Most of the insanity that Hendrix did with feedback was purposeful. (Listen to "If 6 was 9" and you'll hear the studio product of that tweaking) Yngwie is a man who went to rock after Bach, he kept some of the snobbery that comes with that in my opinion.
ohshammyitspork 4 months ago 3
@ohshammyitspork That may be true, but for his craft, Hendrix was undeniably ahead of his time, and thats what it was all about. At least to him probably. The more drugs you tend to sprinkle in there, ideals become distorted I guess
Seshomoru46 4 months ago
