Hitler knew the B.E.F and French Army was trapped and thought they couldnt escapre, Goering promised Hitler the Luftwaffe would be able to take care of the trapped Allies, After all who would have thought that the British would have been able to evacuate 300,000 British,French troops in such short time? The Nazis were outsmarted, Hitler moved his forces for the final push thinking the Allies were trapped!

You have to take in account that after WW1, they realized it was just a huge loss of human lives and a massive carnage. What if you invent some kind of protection or shell, under which you will be safe from future attacks? This feeling of protection was to be obtained from Maginot Line. There was no plan to build complete new armies, but to disarm the germans forever through the Versailles treaty, which at the end had terrible econominal consequences for the average german citizens.

they underestimated the Germans, because of the defeat in World war 1. They did not develope weapons or defenses, and thus were easily deafeated
