I grew up listening to rock and watching horror movies. Zen has nothing to do with those things. But it's just not realistic that I drop everything and live in complete mortification.
There is no Zen in this video. Stressful pose, hard on the joints, tensed muscles, exaggerated smile, out of shape, clothes with labels, makeup, bright colors, attention whoring, dishonest body language, watches made out of animal hide, Zen is nothingness, that which is peace found in ultimate non-dependence. It is not tied to static and designed body positions. It is by being capable of being in a meditative state that had no highs nor lows. No action or reaction. You are as fake as they get.
@shdw2k6 I think you may be a bit too caught up in the little things. Whenever I have practiced with others new to it these are never things I have considered. Just sitting and being there in that moment is what is important. Plus he has a camera on him and is teaching to a new audience which may be distracting.
Brad Warner is a bit controversial and not so traditional in his methods of teaching, but he is bringing Buddhism to a new and untapped audience. I appreciate him for that.
@shdw2k6 I read his book a couple years ago. Maybe you should check your zen mate....You're sitting online replying to videos. He has something that can relate to a new generation....and you want to downplay it. So check the zen on your cable or DSL connection.
Zen is unconditional. Everything in this video dictates it is not as such. I can't check my Zen, it isn't objective. I can't quantify it, explain it, show it off, pretend to have some or not have some. You reply is also good for manuring a field of potatoes. I'd tell you to check you're Zen but, we both know what you know of it now.
he talks so much, is he enlightened i doubt it but hes still awesome
