People say they lose respect for wrestling when they find out that it is staged; the reality is that they didn't know what they were watching beforehand. And yes, you can get injured in any activity, but to trivialize the pain and danger these guys put themselves through is ignorant. Professional wrestling is as dangerous as any sport.

So it should be of no surprise that it has maintained the basic pretenses on which it was founded. Pro wrestling always was and always will be a SPECTACLE--from the outrageous characters, to the lights, to the commentary, to the fireworks, to the moves the characters do--it's one big, unique circus act

But more importantly, whether you like it or not, professional wrestling is as American as apple pie. It has been a staple of TV for decades, and will continue to be. There is really nothing else like it--it's theatre, drama, action, lights, pyro, chaos, and it's all done live right before you--no other show, event, or movie gives this, PERIOD. We continue to love it because it tells the the most basic and captivating story--it's good vs. evil, fighting it out, and that never gets old.

Its not that I like or dont like it. I grew up in the 80s with Macho Man and Hulk Hogan on tv. I guess it makes sense in a spectacle-ish-kinda way but I find it amazing that people still follow it. Its kind of a parody on martial arts and kinda falls in line with monster trucks, oval track racing, dragracing which are also extreme parodies of motor sports. Also uniquely american. Otherwise...
