@bradhadair08 it is an element ,a highly reactive metal at that, but it's also used to treat. episodes of manic depression (which i also happen to suffer from) hence she likes to feel the sadness because it's who she is. and the lithium medication is trapping her real self. I think knowing this might help you understand the song a little more clearly. and what thejordan551 is saying about it being a terrible drug because it really is.

@Ganster976 I'm suprised you were on it at such a young age. I found it made me forget my anger-or feel it so intensely-which usually led to expressing it so intensely. The anger was justified, however, but there was no justice to be had. This song perfectly describes my experience with lithium. Now that I'm off of it, the anger still comes in waves, but I have more foresight on how to act. Fight back or "let it go?" Sadly, I'll prob always waver in between.

@ray0426jh I have a friend who's on lithium. I wouldn't suggest stopping it entirely, at least not all at once - the withdrawals are going to be worse than anything you experienced before starting on it. Tell whoever put you on it that it's not working. They'll adjust the dosage or try something else. I was on Effexor myself and didn't like what it was doing to me so I stopped cold, and I was a train wreck for weeks. Mood stabilizers and antidepressants aren't something to play around with.

@ray0426jh maybe it's something else like ADHD. I was on a whole bunch of shit but in the end all I really needed was a stimulant. It's exhausting playing around with drugs but sadly necessary if you want to stay sane in an often insane world. I never found lithium to "wear off"-get ready for your anger, if you have any to come back full force.

I love all the comments here. Through my life and experience including depression, anxiety, I have come to the conclusion that there are no pills to take way pain forever, that is where life skills come into play. The longer a person is on a pill and not taught a skill the harder it is to take that skill to put to work in their life. Societies idea of be happy is an illusion causing the pain. Emotional Intelligence development is the key.

@LoveLightsPeace So true, but the society we live in is not necessarily conducive to mental health. How to live in a world against one's nature is not easy-sort of like a caged animal. Some of us feel that very intensely and find closed avenues of expression and justice. I took it for my kids, so I didn't end up in prison because I couldn't find a way to escape my husband. Even emotional intelligence isn't enough in some places, but it is where you should start.

If I act numb and indifferent to everything so I don't get hurt. If I'm never happy around someone I never get close to them .
