  • i have to play this on Baritone sax. XP

  • Nice sound man!

  • not bad articulation, good dynamics, great improv ;]

  • good work mate

  • Are you allergic to some of the metas used to build this sax?

  • charlie! why were you before my time!

  • this guy is really really good, technically

  • The reason for the gloves is, he practices safe sax.

The real reason they took Lawrence Welk off the air? Too much sax and violins.

  • I can guarantee if he took the gloves off, pardon the pun, he would sound better.

  • I like this speed.

  • For some reason this makes me think of penguins in top hats perusing the shops in Times Square.....

  • sound good

  • awesome job good sir

  • How long did it take you to learn this?

  • I've fallen in love with the saxophone for the 2nd time :)

  • Idk about everybody else, but I think this is pretty dang good.

  • he plays some great licks, and hes got greaaattt vocabulary, so props on that, but i want to hear more expression, it seems as if its one volume the whole time, and theres not really any development, just something to think about. but realy man you sound sick

  • @ironcross427 Hey, where is your video showing us your expression and superior development?

  • what makes you think you can barge in here, no one is talking to you. im speaking to the guy playing in the video. And id be happy to send you a video of my playing, but im not trying to be an asshole about this, just spread some knowledge that i think would help this guy out. He probably would have some great things to say about my playing too, your looking at it the wrong way.

  • @superjujujuice its not about who is better than who. were all just trying to get individually better, so no need to criticize me for trying to help out a fellow saxophone player. half my comment on the video was congratulating him, so just chill out dude.

that comment up there was meant for you too superjujujuice

  • pretty damn good, bro...

  • man i wish i could have played this song as well as you

  • nic im still trying to work on this song im about half way through

  • lovely jubly stuff mate.

  • yes u are goood. but i think ur playing ahead a little bit on the tempo

  • great job man. playing a little too ahead for it to swing as well as it could. but it will get better with practice, like always. Keep it up!

  • if he is going to perform with gloves then he probably getting used to the feel.

  • Awesome Job !

  • awesome nice job... i do have to ask you whats with the gloves? just curious

  • You're awesome. Why do you play with gloves though?

  • What mouth peice do u have and what reeds do you use and strength

  • very nice

  • crazy solo chops I hear charlie licks everywhere. great taste man

  • ...il jazz va suonato coi guanti....

  • trying to learn it myself, it's hard, så much respect to you dude!

  • nice

  • Excellent bordering on superb.

This is way better than the Wynton Marselis version.

  • CURA UN PO MEGLIO IL FRASEGGIO, SON TROPPO LEGATE LE NOTE E POCO SWING IMPROVISSAZIONE NN E' MALE ...CONSIGLIO BRAVO PAOLOJAZZ.

  • just learned this on tenor. man it's hard.

  • This was actually written by Miles.

  • @GEEKNACH0 Nope!

  • Comment removed

  • Gah I used to be that good. WHY did I ever quit sax T^T Yeah I posted 4minutes before this one but I really like this video lol.

  • I like.

  • Wow! You're amazing! And your sound is great! What kind of recording equipment did you use?

  • omg he is amazing! I'm doing this for my jazz grade 8 tomorrow and i'm not half as good as this, even at the "slower" tempo... :S

    any last minute tips?

    xx

  • this feel written out

  • this is such a cool tune but it is so fast

  • this is amazing! im trying to learn this song? one question. whats your recording equipment? thanks.

  • BOSS

  • where can i find sheet music for this song

  • @chapanese96 the real book 6th ed. by hal leonard has it on page 123. BAM!

  • @chapanese96 page 124 in the real book vol 1

  • Damn nice. This is my audition piece for my school's jazz ensemble in five days haha

  • age?

  • Bad ass playn bro....what sax you using...seem to me like a yamaha maybe z or ex

  • the head is difficult to play clean but u nalied it

  • masterpiece

  • You actually have a Charlie Parker like tone, what's your setup?

  • sounds like a Runyon to me, a model 22 to be specific.

  • haha, unlike some of these other ppl im very impressed...keep jammin

  • Sounds good. I think it needs a bit more swing to it. Sounds a bit straight. Also, no need to tongue every single note.

  • nice

  • I think it's hilarious that people who couldn't even come close to performing as well as this guy are trying to criticize him. It strikes me as funny. Stop hiding behind your computer and go practice.

  • yeah i agree!! though there could be some more swing in it, it sounds great!

  • perfect sound, almost too perfect... it sounds a though its the actual studio recording with this guy just pretending to play, unless there is a drummer and a bass/ piano that play donna lee perfectly like that in the room. Other than that, this is a saxophone 'lip sync'

  • he's probably using the play-along recording that has the bass, piano and drums. I use it. This guy has an amazing sound, definitely not a "saxophone lip sync" lol

  • why would he b ares to lip sync it that perfectly, he might as well just play it...

  • @Superdry1302 your bullshit he is playing

  • @rf1308 thanks for your lovely, polite comment. i was in fact replying to someone who said he was just fingering the notes. if you read my comment you'll realize i have no doubt that he is playing the tune. you need to take a deep breathe and re read comments before you start commenting yourself because it makes you look like a nobhead

  • @Superdry1302 as polite as youll get lol

  • @rf1308 hes not playing it according to the same key as the charlie parker omnibook and he doesnt play the transcrubed solo.. hes playing but hes not playing the key charlie parker played i think.

  • @poplarwb u my friend.. must not play any instruments. or must have down syndrome. post a video of u doing better.

  • You are FANTASTIC.

  • Awesome; I am working on some Charlie Parker songs too and listening to you to see what they should sound like. Don't listen to the morons.

  • very Parker orientated :D

  • i just realized why i had one of the licks u played stuck in my head for so long, u played it 2 times in the end of the song

  • wow thats amazing

  • Mouthpieces don't come in "sharp". We call that the pitch.

  • @cdyel I think he might have meant bright

  • Jazz musician, huh? Can somebody spell out BS for me?

  • @mlongwell357 nnnnnn ur bad too

  • @mlongwell357 what makes you say that it is bullshit that this guy is a jazz musician? he is amazing musician and you can't just say things like that when everybody knows he is a great jazz sax player

  • You have the bop chops but none of the rhythm. It's just lick after lick. The confirmation tune is a little more expressive.

    Loosen up man ...

  • are you PARKER?

  • i play with gloves also since my selmer IV is vintage, i think he is doing that for the same reason...

  • dude play the horn...the scratches, dent, lacquer wear is all a love status that shows where you've been together. i would never sell my horn and just the fact that I've worn the nickel on the octave key brings tears of memory to my eyes

  • He doesn't wanna wear out the lacquer with his sweaty hands

  • Why the gloves ?

  • Brass Allergy?

  • they come with the talent

  • nice, got those bop turnarounds down :)

  • fantastic job, sir

  • This song is really cool. I got it from my teacher before our holiday so now I'm training everyday to learn it. My friend plays the bass and he's just 15 soon 16 and plays it faster then it should be.

    Great job btw.

  • Nah, in fact it's a sax.

And it's cool with the gloves, he just needs a black tuxedo.

  • @SalvationHasCome Dude...That would be like one of those times where you're like he's wearing a tux, but you dont question it because he's playing so smoothly

  • haha

  • Great, work a litlle on you're sound, but it's great

  • Dude, great playing. Amazing technique and runs. Try to learn to tongue on the upbeats. Gives a punch to the music and that's what makes it bebop. Emphasize the upbeats with your tonguing and you'll swing way harder.

  • If that were true ragtime would sound like Bebop. I don't think it does.

I think his phrasing is ok. It just sounds a little mechanical because he's reading and therefore not spiritually absorbed in the music. I would advice him to stop playing transcriptions and apply what he's learned to create his own solo's. Then I think we will begin to really hear something - hey he's listening and playing to the best there is, you can't do better than that. The gloves should go, be at one with the sax.

  • gato con guantes no caza ratones

  • nice job! this is a tough one. Great song

  • where did you get this backup? I can't anything that's not in up tempo (308), I can play it but it's still hard in up tempo. very nice work btw.

  • The video is a bit static, but nice work! Hear some parker licks in your solo work.

  • Yeah like 1:04 - 1:05 ! Nice work, very smooth sound and FAST fingers.

  • are you playing this outa the omni book?

  • No I don't think that's parker's solo that's transcribed in the omnibook. He probably improvised that himself.

At least I don't think it is. I haven't really studied Donna Lee, but I've looked at it a time or two.

  • It isn't out of the omnibook. It's improvised. He sounds good, just needs to make sure it's more aligned with the beat.

  • Comment removed

  • he probably wears gloves to protect the laquer

  • now thats what i call instrument care

  • Comment removed

  • nice this comment rrdjazz rfeally really effects my life very much thankyou for posting this very usefull comment, i'm so glad u stated that and reiterated what you can already imply from bt21994's comment.

thank you from the bottom of my heart

  • Beautiful!

  • Learned the melody on guitar! I'm so proud of meself

  • amazing but why do u use gloves when u play?

  • wow man your amazing!!! sounds like your using a Lakey 5*3 nouthpiece! nice

    xo

  • good job! You kept the same athmosphere that the theme.

  • are you using the charlie park all "bird" book?

  • Nice tone, and yeah the range makes it quite hard on the sax, good job. Please don't take offense by this but in my opinion watch your tempo sometimes during the improvisation, but still very nice performance.

  • if you want to have fun, call this song at a jam session with a guitarist. it is almost impossible on guitar

  • not really, just takes practice. im studying saxophone and guitar, ive had it nailed on guitar a long time, not so much on sax

  • you are now my new saxophone idol

  • he's a killer!

that is the reason he wears gloves.

do you have any clips of your own solos?

  • simply inspiring.

  • niceee

  • whered u get the backing track?

  • Awesome!!! you sound just like Charlie Parker. Are you playing one of his actual solos?

  • Learning it on guitar...its growing on me a ton

  • it's tricky. bird's one of the best guys who's ever lived. there's a live version of Lester Leaps In on the album "Bird chases the Herd" or soemthing. i've never heard something sound so good.

  • that's pretty freaky..good work man.

  • gloves?

  • wow..great! beautiful solo in a truly Parker style

  • Based on Parkers solo, nice ;)

  • amazing ! do u know where can i download the backing track ? thanks

  • Awesome solo!

Is it your own or a transcription?

  • Amazing tone, and playing, great job!

Also, I would imagine this would be about 196 in tempo, nice job not rushing or dragging even the slightest, not an easy thing to do.

Great job, my hat's off to you.

  • hey man! I love this tune, I'm actually getting it down on bass clarinet after playing it so many times on saxophone, fun! lol Anyway, I love your tone! What's your mouthpiece setup?

  • lol donna lee on bass clarinet thats so cool

  • hey good job, the only thing is that your rhythm sounds a little on the "lazy" side, if you know what i mean. but i love the charlie parker licks!!

  • Kind of like Bird meets Benny Golson...very good! I enjoyed listening.

  • JUST LIKE BIRD

    phenomenal solo and transition licks

  • wow, this is flawless

  • bonne technique mais ..........

  • I don't know which is more awesome: your ridiculously good solo or your bitchin' Mickey Mouse gloves.

  • >>I don't know which is more awesome: your ridiculously good solo or your bitchin' Mickey Mouse gloves.

    >>your ridiculously good solo

    >>Charlie Parker's ridiculously good solo

    fix'd

  • When i listened to u i thought u were charlie parker. no joke.

  • where do you get the notes for all your songs?

  • Buy the sixth edition of the Real Book or the Charlie Parker Omnibook. Both have all these songs.

  • Although I know it's a tough song, I play it too, u gotta improve your sound, btw your articulation is perfect...

  • whats with the gloves!!

  • You can't read your solos, if you do your effort is not Jazz: how to practise 12 scales, learn the first three notes of every scale:

CDE,DbEbF,DEF#,EbFG etc play each group up and down many times. on the piano you can go :

    CDEFGABbCDEbFGAbBbCDbEbFGbAbBbBC#D#EF#G#ABC#

    DEF#GABCDE

  • よくやった。。

  • I am sure I will be shamed and corrected, but I feel hurried. Other than that pretty darn perfect....boy oh boy do I have an improv jazz hook up for you....

  • He's not rushing, but he's not playing as rhythmically accurately as he should be. This is a tough tune, though, so I don't blame him.

  • Do regard Jazz as Art or Sport?

  • Sport as in competition.......Art as in not many people can play jazz. When I mean play jazz, I mean understand it not just sitting in and playing notes. Jazz is an emotion more than anything

  • It seems a little stiff to me. The Parker/Davis version of this swings a lot more than this cover does. Perhaps taking the tempo down a notch would have done it some good.

  • id-georgiansaxofone please

  • hi netjazz, you sounds and played very good.just a quick question. can you tell me how you practice in 12 keys, I mean do you use a cd player that transpose the music. Also did you memorize the lines or are you reading it from transcription. Thanks.

  • Maaan. Nice sound. You played the technical stuff nicely with good tone. I'd like to hear more space in the improv. but that stuff takes a lifetime i guess because i have the same habits.

  • Hi !

    You play very wel !

I just wonder where did you find the backing track ?

  • If you are reading it, you are a hell of a great reader. I bet you're not really improvising that. But anyhow the effect is cool. Just a question. Why are you wearing thoose gloves?

  • WOW

  • Looks like a yanagisawa...maybe a yamaha

  • feakin sweet. well played man.

  • what is your setup?

  • Great playing, just watch your time in some spots. At about 1:25 you get a quaver out from the backing track, creates probably a bit more tension than you were after.

  • nice!!

  • nice. what's with the gloves and sax stand?

  • must be a nice sax =)

  • VERY nice!

  • This song is way faster.

  • You don't know Charlie Parker if you can say that with a clean conscience!!

Charlie was the best and it's not too likely that anyone will succeed him before the end of the world ( that exxaggeration is meant :)

  • great feel!

  • good show man your doing great, keep up the good work!

  • you are Great

  • "First of all, he's playing this, any decent saxophone player can tell while he's good, he's not godly, he's just good."

Do you guy play sax? So come ok, take a cam and let's see how you play.

You can't play say this if you haven't played for years, and without a serious training.

  • good. but yeah what's with the gloves??
