Well, technically, they didn't have to kill anyone. Arthur could've just gotten Adam's healing ability from Peter. He was going to lose his powers, anyway.
But what's done is done. I only hope someone goes back in time, at some point, digs Adam up from the grave Hiro put him in, and brings him back to the present.
