My grandmother has been working at a center like this one for a year now, but as had experience with children with autism and other severe disabilities for 30 years. She always has a kind or funny story about how these adults can really surprise you. They can be witty and even hot tempered, sometimes they flirt with each other and of course have conversations that many don't think they CAN have. It's something amazing to see. They are completely capable of making you smile. It's not all sad.

My gf works with a guy who has CP and is also deaf. He was in a wheelchair for the longest time but now he walks on his own. He still needs help walking down stairs and going up and down on escalators but he does a pretty good job on his own. He also lives in his own appartment. He also has a mental disablity but it's really mild. He's a funny guy though likes to joke alot.

I watched a movie, "My Left Foot", about the artist Christy Brown and really learned a lot. I thought cerebral palsy was both a mental and physical disability, but I found out that's not always the case. Christy Brown was very smart. I try to learn more and more.

yes it can be seen from the video, that patients with CP is a subject for comedians but it does show the innateness and incapacity of intellegience of the laughing person to actually find this "a laughing matter". to make jokes on this subject lacks much creativity and disregard for human compassion

i have a mild form of cp tht affects the control of my motor skills and my foot movements. how would YOU feel if at age 4 u have to have surgery on ur eye cuz the muscle was too weak and from ages 6-10 had to have physical thearopy and today at age 18, gets stared at for the way u walk and how u twitch and cant stand still on occasions.. not funny now is it?

getting major surgery, wearing hot plaster casts on both legs, sitting in a wheelchair, having to be carried everywhere, walking with a walker at four years old, wearing leg braces, and not being able to play sports or any kind of physical activity. I have Cerebral Palsy. Fortunately, I have a very mild case that only affects my hamstrings and heelchords, and I am able to live a normal life with the aid of surgeries and therapy. I am personally offended when people post ignorant, rude things like that on the Internet. People with CP work extremely hard just to get to where they are. Next time you want to say something like that, think about this: I would like to see you spend your very first summer vacation in the hospital...
