i downloaded lots of random classical compositions the other day and was for the first time introduced to Rachmaninoff and this piece stood out to me straight away! adore!
MY INVENTION !!!!! IPAD CAN BE USED BY MUSICIANS TO PLAY --NO PAGE TURNER REQUIRED !!!! HEY MUSIC MUSIC WORLD HERE THIS IPAD...IPAD FOR SHEET MUSIC !!!!!! NEW IDEA !!!!!! IPAD IPAD FOR SHEET MUSIC FOR MUSICIANS !!!!!
Just saw this performed by a lady who performed twice at Carnegie Hall and went to Julliard and I absolutely loved it. This looks harder than the G minor prelude that I learned.
hmm, i need the DNA of rachmaninoff, THEN, I SHALL RUE THE WORLD! I WILL COMPOSE MUSIC WITH STRECHES OF 13 KEYS!! HAHA!! i need bigger hands. (i am only 11.)

Oscar Peterson has big freaking hands to... Check out some of his work... completely different style (Oscar = jazz) but Sergei could never have played Oscar's music correctly and Oscar wouldn't probably couldn't fuck with this.
Although, personally I would give Oscar the edge in a piano competition.
This piece BTW is retarded hard. "Lets mix 5lets in with duple timing that is almost exclusivley represented in 6lets..."
This is a great interpretation. It is closer to how Rachmaninoff would've played it. It reminds me of Richter's interpretation, but of course not as great.
Sheer power to me is feeling like the piano is going to explode when the performer is done. That's just the interp. I've come to enjoy. This is without a doubt nicely played, it just feels a little too straight foward.
why do all the pianist always play this piece?

Rachmaninov should've put this piece in 12/8, so he wouldn't have to keep writing in sextuplets and triplets.
Starbirdy9999 2 years ago
Welcome to my world!!! Its would be SO much easyer to do octave runs with hands as big as rachmaninoff's!!

Which one? The B minor? I've had a go.... I'm ok up to the flurry of right-hand notes after the long chordal section.
If you're talking about the B flat major... even more with you! The left hand in particular is fiendish!

A bold, heroic, vigorous piece - I love it so much! This interpretation is quite good, but I've always liked Ashkenazy's the best.
cerzule 3 years ago 3
Have you heard Gilels'? He's the best for this piece in my opinion.
jero13595 3 years ago
Yes - he plays this well, too, but I still prefer Ashkenazy. I want to start learning this piece soon myself!

Constance Keene's interpretation was excellent also. She recorded all of Rach's preludes about 35 years ago. She was married to Abe Chasins.

i think that this piece is an incredibly poor interpretation of the neoclassical style

Yeah, I can see what you mean. I was just referencing from Lungansky that plays Op23 5 and Moment musical #4. He's a great player as well.
