@bronxboy2141 lol - scully, ringoleavio, off-the-point, johnny on the pony, I have a buddy from the Bronx who belongs to the same American Legion as I do and we always talk about playing these games as a kid. The others that are sitting around the bar ask "what are you guys talking about?" Since they all grew up in New Jersey it's funny to see their reactions, especially describing johnny on the pony. Scully was one of my favorites street games. I also had the multi-colored melted crayon cap.
Had a few friends that use to live in that building. A few buildings down there use to be a Knights of Columbus where we played basketball and had youth activities. I think it's a funeral home now.
Wow, I recognize some of those areas. My grandparents lived at 2055 Creston Avenue for many years until 1972 when my grandfather died. We visited almost every Sunday until I was 10. Thanks for the video!
Hi hibiscusfreak - Moved out in 1976. I lived right up the block from Alexanders department store on Fordham. We lived directly across from St. James Park. The park was great we played all kinds of sports there when I was growing up, basketball, roller hockey, football and softball. It was like our big playground just for us kids that lived around there.
Hey @ruudjemulder yeah it's still a tourist area, especially if you like to shop on Fordham Rd. Also, the Bronx Zoo isn't too far from here either. There's also tours available - more info at i love the bronx dot com
I went to OLM too, and graduated in '70. I wouldn't have known you because as you remember, the girls and boys were segregated. The only times we were with the boys was when Fr. Gorman took us on skating trips, and at the 8th grade dance!
Helz Yah Dude! 35 year old here. I grew up On The Grand Concourse BTW 174st and 175st. Right by the D Train in That Big Tall Lewis Morris building. This video rocks with Fordham Road and The Black Squirrel. Anybody attend J.H.S. Wade 117 or DeWitt Clinton H.S. Holla
omfg i used to live on 181st and creston i loved it there chinese food kennedy fried chicken the landrimat the local african braiding store the park and my apartment
Thanks for this memory. I lived in the building next to your walk in. Trish Mcshane sent it to me. very cool. I thought it was going to be home video from back than but still very cool
How ya doing? How's your brothers? I remember your dad coaching the OLM Terriers and Bulldogs. Wow, time certainly flies. Hey, is that your son Matthew playing guitar? If he is, he's fantastic! I viewed his videos and it's great to see someone his age keeping the classics alive - he's very talented tell him to keep playing he's great. Yeah, the Bronx was full of some great memories from our neighborhood back then. Anyway take care and thanks for stopping by.
@anguspage45 Kelly I knew your brothers. Who else from that block is around? HAve you seen Patty Burns? John Noonan? Maureen Cummings?? Bub? Eggy? The Brett boys??
I knew some people that went to Refuge. I use to hang out at 194th and Briggs. Most went to OLM. One person that comes to mind that went to OLM is Paddy Hartnett, and I remember the Frasco's (I think it's Frasco, might be Frosco, his name was Anthony and he had a brother, can't recall the name)
You might be able to reconnect with the OLR kids from back then nowadays... Theres a pretty big group on facebook with a lot of us..
A direct link probably wont work, so just search for "Our Lady of Refuge- Bronx (196 St. and Briggs Ave.)" to find it... "Our lady of refuge" should be enough to search on, but theres two groups...
Thanks for the tour, remember going to St,James Park in the 50's, lived on Creston Ave from 1945 to 1975, used to hang out on the Concourse at Fordham Rd., the place has changed but luckily we have our memories.
Hey doowopplvr - I lived at 2558 Creston. You may remember my older brothers friends, Knox, T. Gorman, "Dudler-boom" Joe, the Valentino's, the Coco's. My brother is Joe Morton. Happy new year and a Bronx cheer to you.
Thanks. Yes, changed quite a bit. It felt good to walk through the old neighborhood and surrounding area again. Something I wanted to do for along time.
Wait I went to OLM too and My Mom worked at Dollar Savings Bank! Wow!

I like the Bronx too. I have spent much time along Fordham Road and 187th and Belmont. Those areas defy change and are cool to visit.
Best egg creams in New York: Mt. Carmel Confectionery about 187th near Belmont, same side on 187th as the Church.
