I guess so! I used Ibanez guitars, the ENGL E530, a tube power amp, a 2x12 cab and a sm57 into my MOTU 896mk3... so it seems that the set up is very similar! Just make sure you place the microphone in the right position and you should be ready to go! I like putting in 90º to the cab, touching the cab and almost at the middle of the speaker!
Shit man, you're an amazing player. That solo was superb. Such tasteful stuff. I am very tempted to get one of these ENGLs. Surprised by how cheap they are!
@WencesWasHere only BFMV first album was metalcore, S,A and F and fever are mostly nu-metal and BvB partly Nu-metal and partly metalcore in my perspective
What power amps would you recommend me to be paired with this pre amp ? I'm looking for something reasonably priced but also a good quality piece of kit. Hope to hear back .
Hi There - thanks for posting this great test run of the E530! I was already sold on the pre, but looking for more examples of the response on different settings, Sure to get one of these very soon. Thanks for your efforts on this video. Best regards... PM
How do pre amps work? I have an orange amp but i want this engl power i could run it through my orange 100 watt head through the cab? Sorry Ive never used a pre amp someone help please.
Nice review!. You might think this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if you can plug the engl e530 preamp into your cabinet and just use it that way? Sorry if thats a dumb question but I am new to the preamp stuff.
@XxRisexXxAbovexX Yes, you can do that. This pre has a 2,5 watts power amp included, so it would only work for playing at home, but not for rehearsing with a drummer.
Amazing review! Great songs and playing as well. I have a quick question regarding to your setup, How did you connect the E530 among your effects unit and power amp? 4 cable method?
@FirePower3006 Not pop mixed with metal, it''s basically math metal but cleaner vocals, rediculous time signature changes, tempo changes, dunno where you got the "pop" from
you must have only hear periphery and TesseracT, fuck man listen to more don't get put off by just that, it's all about the polyrhythms and hooks and tasty riffs, don't get me wrong I love thrash and death metal and all that, but seriously dude, much more to djent then what you've heard, check us out we got our EP coming out soon and it's free, admitedly we're not so much djent anymore and yeah I use clean vocals, but don't judge it by that
@FirePower3006 yeah but as I said it's not all really clean vocals, Like take meshuggah (considered to be the innovators of Djent) no clean vocals what so ever.
I'm a noob at guitar rig and amps here so someone tell me how does the Preamp work? can i use just the preamp + cab, no head? Please explain it to me. dont hate on me cause im a noob :P
You can indeed use the pre with no head or power amp, because it has a 2,5 watts power amp incorporated. It'll only be usefull to play at home. It would be unsufficient to play with a drumer. In that case you'll need a power amp.
@BLechuga Thanks for the reply! I understand now and I saw some people have a Preamp + head, what does the preamp do then since the head is giving off the sound?
@nunofrg Never done it, I have used it many times directly to a 1x12 cabinet (no power amp) and it sounds awesome! It is the same 2.5 Watts poweramp that's used to the headphones, so i guess it should sound awesome as well (if you have a good pair of haedphones)
This video makes me wonder if i really need an Axe-Fx II...i'm an amateur guitarist without a band :D axe-fx II might be "a bit" overkill for me. Thanks for the video, it's awesome
great tone man, i appreciate a lot your professional description in this video, i have ione question for you: in this video there'is a blue guitar head under the rack tuner, i cannot understand what model and brand is that head. if you could tell me the name of that head i would be very grateful to you. thanks and keep playing guitar!
Thanks for the awesome review, I'll definitely be checking out your band's stuff and purchasing one of these preamps ASAP! Unfortunately, I'm strapped for cash right now and I only have enough to get the preamp; I've been playing through a Krank Rev. Jr 20 watt and was just wondering if until I get enough money to purchase a nicer power amp would running through the poweramp of the Rev Jr. work for now?
Wow, this thing sounds absolutely awesome! I have a question, however: I've got a tube combo amp (Bugera 6262-212). Could I connect this thing to the combo so that it goes directly into the power amp? And if I can, is it difficult to do, can it be done at home or do I need a tech to do the job for me?
Thanks for the reply, man. It's so obvious now that I think about it. Generally speaking, how much will the choice of which tube power amp is used affect the overall tone?
@Angsthyrkh I'd say if you use 1$ chinese tube made by slave children, it'll maybe show a bit in your tone, but any good tube will do. They all have different coloration on the tone. Also, tubes will sound different after you've been using it for 3 hours than it did when you just fired up your preamp.
Made a few changes now. thicker strings, changed my cables and made some adjustments and also turned this thing up a little and it sounds AWESOME. In combination with an Engl poweramp this thing is redicilously powerful. Sooo much gain.
purchased an engl 530 + 840/50 pwramp recently and don't get any good tone. does anyone know whats wrong with that ? its the sustain. the tone kinda "dies" after short time. the amp seems to be okay so far. i think it works right so is the pwramp. the guitar isnt the problem either, tried several. turning up the volume doesnt change anything. it just doesnt sound right and i dont know what to do, cuz its my first rag. so far ive been playing a valve king combo.
Awesome playing dude! This is probably a dumb question, but I have no idea how these work.. I have a half stack, but I want another amp, and I love how this engl sounds, but I don't get exactly how you said you connected it... So could I just get this, and plug it through my amp head and play it through my stack speakers or something? haha I've never been good at anything other than just straight up amp and cab kind of thing.. thanks for any help!
@mgdth502 To make a preamp work on a half stack you will require a poweramp so that you will get the volume you need to play it loud if you're in a band situation. I recommend the Fryette 2/50/2 or the 2/90/2 also the Atomic Mono Block MB50.
the tone at 2:46 is exactly what i've been looking for! Great video, but I have a question. How much of a difference does the poweramp stage make? Why couldn't I just run the preamp into a computer and use some compression and a cab impulse? What are the advantages?
I own 2 pres... I have one conected to the tube power amp and to a 2x12 cab. The other one straight to a 1x12 cab. The difference is big. The tube power amp gives much more power and strength to the sound! Though it still rocks directly to the cab... I also have use impulses and the sound very good, but with a tube power amp it is impressively better.
@BLechuga So How did you remove the paint? Just sand it off? Also, are you happy with the result of it? I'm interested in a 7 string but I hate the current finish options available so I was thinking about doing this

Hola! Saludos.
Very good BLechuga!! Please let me hear a Southern Rock tone, or really hard to obtain Blues tone. Can this preamp do Lynryd Skynryd/ Gary Moore? Led Zep type tones? What about a Tele with single coil bridge ala Albert Collins? Can it do FROSTY on the neck pick up? I am considering buying one, but not just for hard rock. I am looking for versatility. Please advise. Thanks, and Great chops!!!!!

@CEGreenMachine try running with the preamp volume all the way up and just controling the actual heard volume with the power amp's volume

Awesome playing dude! This is probably a dumb question, but I have no idea how these work.. I have a half stack, but I want another amp, and I love how this engl sounds, but I don't get exactly how you said you connected it... So could I just get this, and plug it through my amp head and play it through my stack speakers or something? haha I've never been good at anything other than just straight up amp and cab kind of thing.. thanks for any help!
mgdth502 11 months ago
@mgdth502 To make a preamp work on a half stack you will require a poweramp so that you will get the volume you need to play it loud if you're in a band situation. I recommend the Fryette 2/50/2 or the 2/90/2 also the Atomic Mono Block MB50.

how does this do for petrucci tones????
iAreDeekien 11 months ago
What are you using for Effects?
Darkslide426 11 months ago
the tone at 2:46 is exactly what i've been looking for! Great video, but I have a question. How much of a difference does the poweramp stage make? Why couldn't I just run the preamp into a computer and use some compression and a cab impulse? What are the advantages?
fraglessone 11 months ago
@fraglessone

Hello fellow musicians! What would you recommend? A e530+e840+cab or a Engl savage+cab?

No matter how complicated music you compose, there is always a south american band that make your music sound mainstream...

Can i plug this preamp to a solid-state amp's return via the FX send for live use with the club's amps?

Great demo man, you've got some cool tones going on there! Do you mind me asking, what is the natural finish ibanez that you're playing?

Many thanks man!
It is a RG1527, it used to be blue, but I took the paint off!
Cheers!

@BLechuga So How did you remove the paint? Just sand it off? Also, are you happy with the result of it? I'm interested in a 7 string but I hate the current finish options available so I was thinking about doing this

For playing live or jamming with a drummer is it good to have guitar cabinet speakers, or just any sort of cab or speaker?

Very good BLechuga!! Please let me hear a Southern Rock tone, or really hard to obtain Blues tone. Can this preamp do Lynryd Skynryd/ Gary Moore? Led Zep type tones? What about a Tele with single coil bridge ala Albert Collins? Can it do FROSTY on the neck pick up? I am considering buying one, but not just for hard rock. I am looking for versatility. Please advise. Thanks, and Great chops!!!!!
