Just bought a Walnut finished tele deluxe. I noticed you mentioned changing the tone pots... mine sounds kinda weak and compressed. My question is: What change occurs with the change of each pot? What effect will changing the tone pot have and also, what effect will changing the volume pot have. I've heard of people going with hybrid pot combos and others changing ALL of them

i had a 250k bridge and 500k neck but i also dont know what happens if you only change the volume or the tone.

for me the bridge was good with the stock poti but i wouldnt recommend 1000k potis with those the deluxe becomes to thin and sharp.. almost standard telecaster like which is not the purpose of the deluxe ;D

@EriksAnarchy512 The Tele? Oh, man, on Fender Singles you can play even hard rock and not hardest metal. But if you want to play something like Norwegian Black Metal, then you should put humbucker in it. Tom Morello from RATM plays on Tele, also Chris Shiftlett from Foo Fighters and Jonny Greenwood with Ed O'Brien from Radiohead. All they proof you can play the hard rock stuff and more on Telecaster.

Stock SINGLE-coil pickups and everything and it still rocks hard. Point is, its not the guitar, its how you set up your amp and your effects.

Anyway, serious question; I've just bought one of these teles (hasn't arrived yet) without researching beforehand, but from the comments on this vid, the pick ups are apparently complete shite. How does changing the pots help?

first of all, who cares about the thom yorke comment? wow, people, he was just kidding.

there are many web forums that discuss how awful the reissue pickups are compared to the originals. the suggestion is to change the 250k pots to 500k or to 1m (the original had 1m) to "bring the pickups to life". however, a bad pickup is still a bad pickup, and no change in pots will make them sound like the originals. your video has really helped me decide that rio grande pickups are the way to go :)

Im crazy about this one, cause I love Blur and coxon uses one, also the singer of franz ferdinand. love arctic monkeys too. but I loooove oasis, and I know a telecaster isnt the best guitar to play oasis music, altough noel himself uses one in bring it on down and wonderwall(live). He's talking about the resistance value of the volume knobs used. Higher value means a brighter, clearer tone. The guitar is fitted as stock with 250k Pots, which make the guitar sound a bit too dark/muddy for what some people expect from a Fender guitar. 1 megs pots really brighten up the sound and help make it sound a little closer to the original seventies Tele Deluxes. This isn't something that has to be done, you might like the guitar as it is.

Mate, first of all you can get new saddles (fender stamped just like the originals) from strings direct.co.uk. - that aftermarket bridge just doesn't look right. Secondly, don't listen to the haters, you're playing isn't bad, you just need more confidence. Hope this helps. :D

I went to my local GC to check one of these things out, and they had one, Black on Black, and i played it and was just blown away by how great it sounded and how cheap it was. Went back a week later to check it out one more time before i made a decision and it was gone, but they had a Mahogany one i think it was. Tried that one, and it sounded terrible when i compared it to the other one. I'm still looking for a guitar the plays and sounds like that first one i tried, it was damn near perfect!
