  • He's thinking, "How can i sound more like Jesse Lacey"

  • Please check out my cover of this? Thank you :)

  • I love how he is enjoying his song as he sings it. Looks like he is thinking, "Oh that was good".

  • when world war three breaks out i will be thinking of this song...

  • yes everyone knows conflict is happening, but it is easier for us all to block it out I'm glad someone is bring these things to the light because because WE as a human race need to do something, even if its to learn to be more conscious of inadvertently helping people commit atrocities against others!!!!

  • you should not be over 11 and listen to this

  • I just discovered Kevin Devine the other day... What a find. He writes the best lyrics!

  • thankyou good sir! :DD

  • what's the tuning!? O:

  • @insanityXhasXmotives Standard Tuning =]

  • @KeithusTFS

    yeah standard hahah

  • i met him yesterday! shook his hand and talked a bit. i died of sheer pleasure.

  • can't stop hitting the replay button (:

  • Who's Bert? 2:54

  • I actually worked with the guy who sold the rights to this song to the upstart label that Kevin Devine got this song from. The other guy sings it better.

  • simply amazing

  • this ginger has a soul

  • kind of sadistic that he's smirking during this lol

  • Honestly, Im not for religon or am I of the religous type. I'm just a former drug addict and convicted armed robber that has been born again. Anyway, Im gonna continue to speak, weather you approve or not, in the end I have to stand and give an account before Him, not you. I follow God's Word, not man's. I try to speak the truth in love and if some one rejects it, their blood is on their own hands, mine will be clean cause, I pointed the way to everlasting life, they just would have none of it.

  • @mrmojoriseing34 Amen Brother:]

  • If you say something is black and I say something is white then it can't be an equal truth. Your either right or your wrong. They can't both be right, it's an impossibility. See my point? Doesn't require a lot of mental understanding to grasp that one. But for the record, Kevin is the one that made the statement about 'marching to existinction with your God in step, it's His name in your mouth and His cross on your neck. We know who he is refering to, Jesus, the God of the Christians.

  • I will say I do agree with you on one thing Kevin. We have earned it and its time to burn.

  • (KJV 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. What that is saying is that all paths "do not" lead to heaven. Only "ONE PATH" leads to heaven. Am I a prick or bigot for saying that? I didn't write the book.

  • @mrmojoriseing34 You do realize of official book of Scientology says something similar, does that make it the right that. FAITH IS IN ACT. Not what is written. And tell me, if all three of the same history, it does make it the same God genius. That's a common fact, i'll assume you just don't have the mental understanding of basic logic to get that. You are a bigot by denying others their beliefs, and ignore your own mistakes. The only people that need to burn are people like you.

  • @mrmojoriseing not cool... it's not a whole religion's fault for 9/11. 9/11 was the cause of terrorists who were extremists. they took their religion and completely distorted the meaning of it. Don't put down a whole culture.

  • Equal truth? The God of the Bible and the god of the Quran are not the same god. The Quran teaches that your wife is your property, like land and you can beat her if she doesn't obey you. (Quran4:34) If you truely follow the Bible you are taught to love. If you truly follow the Quran then you are taught to hate. You believe what you want. Someone is telling a lie or both are but, BOTH CAN'T BE RIGHT!! Godbless those that lost their lives on 9/11, on both sides. Our enemy is not flesh or blood.

  • @mrmojoriseing34 Really? Who does the Quran start with. Distant father? Tell me. All paths lead to a "God". Do you want to know the truth of how to live? Live life moral. No matter which God, it is, he would take a moral man, before a religous zelot of the other side. Also, You are pinning 9/11 on Muslims? Alright, that's cool, lets pretend that Christians didn't do the crusades, or that the KKK were just religious extremists just as some muslisms can be. Shit is shit, regardless of the hue.

  • Even moreso, this is coming from someone that is moral. Stop being a bigot. I'm fairly sure whatever you subscribe to, that is a "sin". start being moral, and stop being a prick. That is how you get to heaven. Not by bashing other religions.

  • all you can do is hold your breath and hope you make it to the end.... i think my face was blue.

  • I want his jacket..

  • Still gives me goosebumps

  • this is the best version i've ever heard.

  • WOW..that was awsome..i think he made me smarter cause my brain hurts...

  • @L0VEyourLIFE nu bad... dont say nasty things about gingers... they are wonderful people >_<

  • @L0VEyourLIFE I take umbrage!

  • This man is the Real Deal!

  • wow this is great im glad i found this video

  • Redheads<3 *Sigh*

Back to reality.. He is amazing. This song is so beautiful, no words can describe it. Now a day people think a great song must consist of getting some, getting drunk, or just having money. He illustrates how beautiful music can be, but also it's terrifying to see that some of these problems are going on in the world.

  • I have to add, when I saw him open up for Thrice at the Marquee a while back, I was standing there jamming out and I noticed that the 2 guys in front of me were making fun of him and every time he started another song, they moaned and groaned beggin for him to be done so that Thrice could play. I consider myself non judgmental and believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I was upset. And I firmly believe that if he had played this song, it would have shut them right up.

  • I love the moments in this video when he looks straight at the camera, and you feel like he can see right down to your very soul...

    0:51

    1:37

    2:21

    2:29

This video gave me chills the first time I watched it, and the song is so amazing. The words are so powerful.

  • I was the first person waiting to see him and Andy Hull at the Cat's Cradle. My friend and I were waiting outside in the cold, and he invited us inside for the sound check. I sat there and watched him play this song on stage in an empty room. I nearly started crying, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

  • Lyrical genius.

  • @stevenbeaven1991 Please, elaborate.

  • udaman!

  • D:

    He's amazinggg<3

  • he sure does make a good first impression. pure poetry

  • wow.

  • Who's heard Kevin's collaboration with Manchester- Bad Books? The music is so good!! I like "You Wouldn't Have To Ask" best so far!! If you haven't heard Bad Books yet-- CHECK THEM OUT!

  • Does anybody have chords for this song?

  • and its funny they never show the guitar when he plays that one part like it's a secret lol. They move the camera away the second he plays it lol

  • " a military mother with a boy in hell" can someone please explain this to me. Does he believe all soldiers are going to hell? or that if you kill someone you automatically go to hell? What's his problem?

  • @grouchysmurff And then comes to look at your other comments and finds out that your puttin on a front.

  • @grouchysmurff he doesn't mean the kid is going to hell or that soldiers in general go to hell. he's saying that war is hell.

  • @grouchysmurff

It means hes like in figurative hell

like as in a war zone is hell

  • @grouchysmurff Nailed it!

  • his hood is gay

  • @shotgunsharman You're gay.

  • guys sick with the lyrics guitar n singin

  • Comment removed

  • mind.blown.

  • "conflict diamond on your bride-to-be"

  • @xBillyTheKidx favorite line!

  • Holy shit, this is fucking amazing.

  • It’s a farm boy sprinting over desert dirt

And he’s panting the ‘Our Father’ in staccato spurts

now that's his automatic rifle and it tells no lies

That’s his truth in your stomach, it’s no alibi

    Jesus ;0

  • This song is so great because it's about how fanatical dedication to a belief is a source for suffering in the world.

  • it gets better everytime i listen to it:)

  • this was the 1st song i ever heard of kdev.... what a great 1st impression!

  • 4 people have no fucking idea, at all

  • The great thing about Kevin Devine is that it doesn't matter when, where or what he's singing, he always puts every bit of emotion into it.

  • @calicofool seems like the only good thing i could say about him haha

  • @calicofool true statement my dude

  • @calicofool if you like that, definitely check out andy hull

  • Wow! I'm totally inspired by you!

    That was amazing! x

  • You rock Kevin

  • when you look directly into the camera and sing, i know there's hope for this crazy world.

  • See, this is the type of song, that I need to listen too over and over. Till I know every word. And then some.

  • hey when are you coming to minnesota kevin!? someone tell kevin i said that.

  • he gets so intense the last verse. veins poppin outa his face n shit

  • I dont know. The lyrics are great but to address the musical elements as amazing or ground breaking might be taking it too far. Don't get me wrong, its good stuff all together but i dream of a day where someone will brake all the musical genre molds and re-invent the concept of music. Ever think about how music is an actual physical connection? Sound physically exists in sound waves and reverberate off of your ear drums. Sound is physically connecting and touching us.

  • @Rockstar6111 But how do we touch sound back? I want music that can do that.

  • @Rockstar6111 technically sound dosent touch us on a molecular scale nothing touches us when we feel something its because the atoms of what were touching and the ones were made up of repel each other so you feel the repulsion not the actual object but i hear where your comming from

  • @Rockstar6111 IT EXIST! LISTEN TO TOOL

  • @Rockstar6111 you have to understand that music is something that is spiritual and emotional, it's something you feel not only physically but spiritually. but as far us touching sound back well that already happens when you create music!

  • the lyrics in the song are breathtaking cause of the sad truth they expose about our world. the fact that the poor fight the wars and the rich sit behind desks just counting the death tolls. how the diamonds that are a womens best friend are the product of wars and death in africa. our world is fucked and its nice to hear someone else making a point of pointing that out for others to see and understand

  • @inkgerm The thing is, everyone knows the conflicts are around and it doesn't take some singer song writer to make us all feel guilty. I understand it's pretty cool to be worldly conscious but at some point you just aim at making everyone else the bad guy why you don't do anything about the issues either. This really is a good song, and don't think I'm saying that it's bad in anyway but truthfully Kevin Devine isn't exposing anything, and as much as people love someone to hate the "rich" it.

  • @Popsauce123 People know Jersey Shore and Snooki more than what Kevin Devine is talking about.

  • @Popsauce123 Nailed It!

  • @Popsauce123 There's nothing we can do about it, really. Humanity has been in a sinking ship for a long time now, and we're too deep into the water to be pulled back up to safety now.

The best thing we can do is to take the Hell and make something beautiful out of it. Like this song. Everyone is the bad guy. We're all to blame. Let the tragedy we've created feed art we're going to create.

I think Kevin Devine and other artists are doing the best thing you could possibly do.

  • @inkgerm

They don't count the death toll. They count the numbers after the dollar sign.

  • i very much agree with arkilees2

  • Just saw Kevin at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA with Thrice, The Dig, and Bad Veins. Great show!

  • @DDball so jealous :(

  • @DDball It was my first time seeing him, I was pretty impressed

  • kevin devine is good.

  • unreal

  • I Love this raw music stuff, it sounds like real music...

    thank you

  • amen to good music.

  • i just happened across this video, never heard of him before,, this is incredible

  • This is absolutely amazing.

  • this video was posted one year ago today.

  • Fantastic lyrics - I love it. The pauses he has in the song needs to go though: it sounds like a comedy parody when you use those pauses for emphasis. It's cliche and it taints this great song. Otherwise, love it.

  • i found him by pure randomness, i haven't stopped listening to him since :]

  • @xxxLiStEn2ThEmUsIcxx listen to thrice, you wont stop your whole life

  • The lyrics are great, but the way he sings them, with a crooked smile kinda gets the hairs on my neck up... o.o

  • i am SO looking forward to the concert on wednesday :)

  • who said gingers arnt worth a shit

  • he may or may not have a soul

  • This music just makes you realise how much other crap music is being made these days.

    absolutely amazing,

  • i dont think the "music" is so amazing lol. Its pretty simple to be honest. No where near complex. Its the lyrics, purpose, and meaning that is so "amazing," as you put it.
