This guy no insult to the sword, this very hard trainig and very hability, so, do it but don t comment about this do you make? do you hability for this? so, shut up ok?
Swordsmanship is not about how pretty that you can perform your moves. It's all about time, distance and how you gonna react. In a real swords fight those who use sword like him wouldn't last for long. Japanese Kendo is great because it would bring the body/mind/sword all together as one
mmm cheerleader with a blunt sword. bet he is an american putting the iaido/kendo masters of America to shame. lol. there is only one word for this person PEN1S.
Nice baton twirling skills --- but he would be dead in less than 3 seconds in a REAL fight because he leaves himself exposed pretty much constantly. Even quicker against a man properly trained in the 3 great American martial arts --- Colt, Smith & Wesson, and Springfield Armory. All of the martial arts training and experience in the world is futile and worthless in a modern fight against a properly trained (IPSC or USPSA) shooter. Blade vs bullets = EPIC FAIL!!!!!
why best in the in the world? rank 1? lmao that is bloody absurd, to be ranked 1 in the world there must be some sort of proof. it makes my heart ache something originated from elsewhere became top in the WORLD from some where.....
It's true that most of this wouldn't be applicable in a real fight, but the point of the competition is for show. In that regard it's fairly amazing. As far as his real skills with a blade I think that if you watch him closely his technique is fairly good. I'd mark as a formidable opponent with a blade.
@Tahlavin You're half right. He is obviously a good dancer/baton twirler, but if you watch him closely his actual sword technique, frankly, sucks. His Hasuji is terrible because he's never cutting from a stable base, and his swings are waaaay too deep, leaving himself wide open between cuts. He has no Metsuke to speak of because he's not attacking or defending, he's just flailing about wildly. He doesn't even attempt sayabiki and his noto looks like something out of a bad movie.
@Tahlavin this is were you are wrong at every cut he his open or when he do his faster cuts he stop midway so his cuts have a shorter reach... in a battle against him I would need three step and my Katashu technique
If it were a real sword there is only a small bamboo peg holding the handle onto the tang of the blade. In Japan a master was giving a demo with a real sword. The peg broke and the blade flew into the audience killing someone. He offered to commit Sepuku in exchange.
he may be able to do fancy tricks with a blade but can he fight? he throws his blade near the start of this video, thus sacrificing all stability and defence, a fatal mistake
Laughable. There are no skills in Kenjustu here, because there is no Kenjustu noticeable. It is a good choreographed dance, and might be good entertainment to those ignorant of real Bushido arts. Lastly, I think a great deal of the acrobatic choreograph was VERY irresponsible - that is probably not a real sword, and it could have easily come apart and injured the audience. Incidentally, the audience was far too close to the performer. Thumbs down.
Looks nice and flashy and he definitely worked hard to achieve this. However don't you all go thinking that this makes him an insane swordfighter. It is not the fact that he is being fancy that would make him bad at swordfighting if he were to attack like that, there just simply is not enough power behind each swing.
@Dialupdefender Even if there isn't "much" power behind those swings, it would be enough to end a battle. It's not always power or strength that wins; the majority of the time, it is speed.
I agree completely with "ExposeChosunNinja". That man in the video is doing a show, like a stunt master, not a martial arts. Those shown skills are completely useless in a real fight and even can get you killed more easily. Don't get me wrong, I respect what the man does, it is very hard for sure and it is very beautiful. It just not implementable in a battle. Also,"mrchockuls", every year over the world there are murders done with a blade, usually a katana, because it cuts so well unarmored man
The guy trained hard for what he did I'm sure... However I wouldn't condone doing some shit like this. I'm guessing his sword isn't even a functional one. I would never toss up my Ryumon like that lol.. If I grabbed the wrong end my fingers would be gone! :O.
amazing technical and athletic skill at display here. I have no idea whether or not that katana was real but you gotta hand it to him, those moves with a metal object that long in your hands with perfect timing is an amazingly adrenaline pumping. no wonder he was shouting. don't care whether it's authentic or not (it's not) but it's much much better than computer generated special effects of the movie Blade. There are no extreme martial arts skills here! Martial arts implies arts of war or combat. What this man is doing is only for show, and would get him killed in a battle. This should be called Martial Showmanship or Stuntman tryouts, not Martial Arts.
@ExposeChosunNinja not all martial arts is an art of war or combat... What everyone calls Kung Fu *note real meaning of kung fu is skill not always implying to martial arts* Is called Wushu and is considered as a martial art even though it's for show.

@ExposeChosunNinja idk dude, id be pretty afraid to attack him while he was doing that shit. and your telling me you wouldnt be at least a BIT scared after seeing that? remember the roar is just as much a part of the lion as the crawls or teeth are!
@DarkatNoon14 I wouldn't. Would have no reason to fight him. My comment was not about the performer, or his skills. It was about the fact that it was called Martial Arts! It's not! This is a performance designed for no other purpose then to entertain, and win a trophy. That's all. Martial Arts do not look like this! My Youtube name is spelled correctly, and why on earth would you think I wanted to get in a religious debate with you?
@ExposeChosunNinja I meant if you HAVE to fight him. And I didn't mean a religious debate with you. The last time I mentioned "God" I got in a debate.
@Enoh52224 i think you will find that wu shu is a creation in the last century :) wu shu is for show, there is no effective use for it lol your quite deluded if u think wu shu and kung fu even have the same meaning lol go and look it up rather than thinking you know it lol
@KensaiZen You are right in that WuShu and GungFu are not the same. They are however both Chinese Martial Arts. I do not agree though that WuShu has no effective use. Look at the Chinese Characters for WuShu. They are the same as the Japanese Kanji for Bujutsu which means Military Skills!
@ExposeChosunNinja im not using WuShu in the literal sense but as the modern WuShu created by the communist regime of which we see it today. If we were to go into detail of WuShu, we can call archery Wushu or even Seige warfare or hell even sun tzu's the art of war is Wushu. Chinese is quite difficult to understand sometimes :) especially when trying to understand it from a western perspective.
It's to music so obviously it's just a performance based competition, closer to dance than martial arts. He proved he's athletic and I don't see any reason to insult the performer. I wouldn't doubt that he's #1 in something. Hell, I'm probably #1 in at least something.
Any animosity should be directed at the cunt who named the video and made it seem like he was some worldclass sword master and not some dancing nancy in a hotel lobby
@LeonKenedy16 he wouldn't...get yourself into a woodden sword fight (at least) and try any quick super hollywood moves like that, they'll do nothing agains one powerfull well done blow. movie moves are just like prop glass and fake bullets :)
It's an age-old Kung Fu arguement "What is practical? What will work on the street?" I've studied Martial Arts for 24 years and MUCH of the learning is trying things out in the dojo and finding out if it works as real self defense.
You have to understand that some Martial Arts are very old and they need to be updated. Don't hold back progress. There were not hand guns 50 years ago. You also have to understand that there are Martial Arts "for shows" like Hollywood, in competitions and for self defence. Some people hate Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan and Hollywood but you have to understand that Hollywood (and this sort of thing) is NOT real self defense.
guys, come on be realistic. His control of the weapon is very good. His speed is exceptional. His balance is also very good. Overall he is actually quite a good swordsman. EVERY martial artists that does "show" martial arts would die in seconds. This is just like Wu-Shu. Its just for show. Although it still gives you great traiing for control of the body and balance. He's pretty good.
@KensaiZen He isn't. Swordsmanship is not just about speed and balance and control. Swordsmanship is about strategy, range, technique. But he isn't even use cutting moves, also not using the swords range. This is just a show. It's not good for practice, because you can't practice painting if all you do is breaking a glass with your head, to "be cool". And yes im upset, because the katana is not a joke, and this thing shows a real bad example.
@Noddist88 calm down buddy, this is just a show lol its meant to make the crowed go "wow" how many people do you think are standing there and knows anything about the "fine art" of the sword? its like Watching Wu-Shu and watching Kung-fu. You will "wow" at wu-shu but its just a show. You will get bored to death of kungfu demonstration but its practical. calm down and relax, he may not be the best swordsman in the world but he does do a good demonstration :)
Lets put this into a more modern perspective. I am crouched down behind a car, being shot at by some street punk. I draw my concealed pistol from its holster. Then I scream to ensure that he knows right where I am. I Jump up and make I giant target of myself. I then decide to both throw my weapon into the air successfully disarming myself and spin in a circle turning my back to my opponent. This all being before I have taken my first shot. Yes this is the answer. ALL COPS SHOULD STUDY THIS!
i dont see anything but tricks and fast cuts and a parade baton twirl. Not impress , I dont see any tradition and can see flaws in the basic of things like his draw and retrival of the sword. 5-8 seconds is to long , this person would be disected in less time than that, of that Im sure. ; )
YouTube generalization: if the video is impressive aesthetically/visually, then it is insulting to some culture or another. If the video is culturally accurate, then it is boring and shouldn't have been posted.
@mrchockuls It's a demo... it isn't supposed to be realistic, it is supposed to show his speed, precision, and accuracy; which it does. At least I can respect Testwordz opinion, even if I disagree, for finding fault in the concept of *jazzing it up* like that, but you don't even seem to understand the intent.
To the guy writing about fencing sure he would do well if the sword was even sharp the katanas they use are dull but still sharp enough to kill plus this guy has revolutionized the way sword performances are done today check out Kalman Csoka, Marc Cannonizado, and Caitlin Dechelle. He was they're role model. And before you start criticizing what other people just think about this.... how are you any better? And remember its just a performance think about the training he knows that is not shown
@MOAKmemoirs It's like every damn movie about swordfighting you can find. Even some reenactments and so on are absolutely ridiculous. But no one cares until some clown makes fun of JAPANESE martial arts. Why is that ?
@ivanlagrossemoule for me its because i feel sentimental about japan and its fighting styles. it just annoys me when people cant see that this is only a performance. like hell would someone fight like that in the middle of a battle
If he spent as much time actually practicing TRUE swordsmanship as he did practicing this strange dance involving the katana... he might actually have been a good swordsman. Because clearly he has speed and agility. But his talents are used for this instead of true swordsmanship.
You guys are fucking retarded. It's for show. He clearly has speed, strength, agility, and form. It's a demo, not a fight. Get the fuck over yourselves you stupid yellow belt niggers.
i think this is the guy that was taken to prison for touching hes students and i don't think hes name is jason but Jonathan boyd ? here is the link i think this is the same guy that was put in jail for touching hes students and i don't think hes name is jason is Jonathan boyd ? i don't know if hes still in jail or what but yeah.
i wanna see this kid go against a shinkedo guy or kendo to see what he would do there lol. I know is a kata and all but still wtf this ain't a martial just years wasted on jumps and spinning kicks that at the end won't help you. He should had dedicate hes time to a real swordsmanship
Cirque Du Freak..... he put a lot effort to perform this.... I think he had done a great job.... even tough its not an ancient art but he had develop a new technique.... the art of sword must not stop developing.... Who knows one day man can use sword against a gun :P
all for show lol a real Samurai doesn't need flashy tricks, a match only lasts with one strike most of the times. A sniper is like a samurai...in some way. One shot one kill, one slash one kill. They are two different people but have one of the same rules.
stupid performance with danger ....what if ,the katana slept of his hands ???? i think it was to dengerous as a show ,he would hit someone if there was an accident ,even the katana was fake still was dangerous with so many people closed to him!!!!!
@outlander271 You got it wrong. This: acrobatics=cool, martial art=fuck no. My own physical prowess has nothing to do with my dislike of this very American show of flash, speed and oh so cool and lack of practicality, realism and historical accuracy.
You are one thick fuck and that event was shit, to my taste.
That was actually stupid. that sword could have kill somebody from the audience.

ExposeChosunNinja 2 months ago
@ExposeChosunNinja Correction "than to entertain"
ExposeChosunNinja 2 months ago
@ExposeChosunNinja I meant if you HAVE to fight him. And I didn't mean a religious debate with you. The last time I mentioned "God" I got in a debate.

@Enoh52224 i think you will find that wu shu is a creation in the last century :) wu shu is for show, there is no effective use for it lol your quite deluded if u think wu shu and kung fu even have the same meaning lol go and look it up rather than thinking you know it lol
KensaiZen 5 months ago
@KensaiZen You are right in that WuShu and GungFu are not the same. They are however both Chinese Martial Arts. I do not agree though that WuShu has no effective use. Look at the Chinese Characters for WuShu. They are the same as the Japanese Kanji for Bujutsu which means Military Skills!
ExposeChosunNinja 2 months ago
@ExposeChosunNinja im not using WuShu in the literal sense but as the modern WuShu created by the communist regime of which we see it today. If we were to go into detail of WuShu, we can call archery Wushu or even Seige warfare or hell even sun tzu's the art of war is Wushu. Chinese is quite difficult to understand sometimes :) especially when trying to understand it from a western perspective.
KensaiZen 2 months ago
It's to music so obviously it's just a performance based competition, closer to dance than martial arts. He proved he's athletic and I don't see any reason to insult the performer. I wouldn't doubt that he's #1 in something. Hell, I'm probably #1 in at least something.
Any animosity should be directed at the cunt who named the video and made it seem like he was some worldclass sword master and not some dancing nancy in a hotel lobby
666asiamalaysia999 5 months ago
@LeonKenedy16 he wouldn't...get yourself into a woodden sword fight (at least) and try any quick super hollywood moves like that, they'll do nothing agains one powerfull well done blow. movie moves are just like prop glass and fake bullets :)
IriasHildirien 5 months ago
He's a great performer!!
Still he would get stabbed when he throws the sword in the air letting it flip 5 times.
But this is about a performance not a fight and he does an awesome job!!

It's an age-old Kung Fu arguement "What is practical? What will work on the street?" I've studied Martial Arts for 24 years and MUCH of the learning is trying things out in the dojo and finding out if it works as real self defense.
DJRBergen 6 months ago
You have to understand that some Martial Arts are very old and they need to be updated. Don't hold back progress. There were not hand guns 50 years ago. You also have to understand that there are Martial Arts "for shows" like Hollywood, in competitions and for self defence. Some people hate Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan and Hollywood but you have to understand that Hollywood (and this sort of thing) is NOT real self defense.

He's good at what he does. What he does isn't any good.

Gsus! I wouldn't want to be sitting on the first row at that demo. Man, if the sword slips ?! your done for dude.
WaterPocket 6 months ago
guys, come on be realistic.
KensaiZen 6 months ago
@KensaiZen so does dancing :/
Gronked 6 months ago
@Gronked Didn't you know that dancers make very good martial artists and vice versa :)
KensaiZen 6 months ago
@KensaiZen He isn't. Swordsmanship is not just about speed and balance and control. Swordsmanship is about strategy, range, technique. But he isn't even use cutting moves, also not using the swords range. This is just a show. It's not good for practice, because you can't practice painting if all you do is breaking a glass with your head, to "be cool". And yes im upset, because the katana is not a joke, and this thing shows a real bad example.

@Noddist88 Not to mention philosophy.
Noddist88 6 months ago

5-8 seconds is to long , this person would be disected in less time than that, of that Im sure. ; )
Liquidspeed01 6 months ago
YouTube generalization: if the video is impressive aesthetically/visually, then it is insulting to some culture or another. If the video is culturally accurate, then it is boring and shouldn't have been posted.
Galinaros 6 months ago
@mrchockuls It's a demo... it isn't supposed to be realistic, it is supposed to show his speed, precision, and accuracy; which it does. At least I can respect Testwordz opinion, even if I disagree, for finding fault in the concept of *jazzing it up* like that, but you don't even seem to understand the intent.
Nightfalconx 6 months ago
i wonder if he can throw the sword into the air and do flips and land just to catch the sword. that would also be great too.

THIS IS NOT JAPANESE SWORDSMANSHIP! its like a dance performance with a sword thats all. so dont go shoutin down the japanese swordsmanship
MOAKmemoirs 6 months ago
@MOAKmemoirs It's like every damn movie about swordfighting you can find. Even some reenactments and so on are absolutely ridiculous. But no one cares until some clown makes fun of JAPANESE martial arts. Why is that ?
ivanlagrossemoule 6 months ago
@ivanlagrossemoule for me its because i feel sentimental about japan and its fighting styles. it just annoys me when people cant see that this is only a performance. like hell would someone fight like that in the middle of a battle
MOAKmemoirs 5 months ago
looks very impressive a good fencer would take this guy out. Japanese swordsmanship is OVERRATED
rsdingoa 6 months ago
If he spent as much time actually practicing TRUE swordsmanship as he did practicing this strange dance involving the katana... he might actually have been a good swordsman. Because clearly he has speed and agility. But his talents are used for this instead of true swordsmanship.
popoufo 6 months ago
You guys are fucking retarded. It's for show. He clearly has speed, strength, agility, and form. It's a demo, not a fight. Get the fuck over yourselves you stupid yellow belt niggers.

all for show lol a real Samurai doesn't need flashy tricks, a match only lasts with one strike most of the times. A sniper is like a samurai...in some way. One shot one kill, one slash one kill. They are two different people but have one of the same rules.

outlander271 7 months ago
@outlander271 You got it wrong. This: acrobatics=cool, martial art=fuck no. My own physical prowess has nothing to do with my dislike of this very American show of flash, speed and oh so cool and lack of practicality, realism and historical accuracy.
You are one thick fuck and that event was shit, to my taste.
