What a pity he missed you. He must be a pensioner. I wouldnt have missed you. You arrogant, aggressive, paranoid simpleton fool. Just ask yourself the question Why do I have a camera starpped to my helmet. I dont drive aroung filming fucking cyclists. You fucking anorak
@labyonnette. I drive around with a camera strapped o my helmet because of inconsiderate driverslike him and, judging by your tone and comments, like you.
Remember the days when the general public just conducted themselves like adults. Welcome to the new Britain of aspirational idiocy. Here we have a clip of a van driver pulling out into the path of a cyclist and, as opposed to making a mental note to correct future actions, shouts abuse and throws a bottle out of the window at a far more vulnerable road user. Then a gathering of Britain's intelligentsia arrive on YouTube to vent their hatred of cyclists. This idiot should have his license revoked
Yawn. Another video of a poor driver and over-reacting cyclist. Yes van man was wrong, but cyclist could easily have avoided the situation. What if everyone went around reporting things to the police? You both need to grow up.
@gezza403. Maybe if everyone went around reporting dangerous driving to the police they may sit up and take notice. It may also result in the few drivers who shouldn't be on the road due to poor skills being sent on driver awareness courses or, if necessary, banned. As a cyclist I shouldn't have to take avoiding action - the incident shouldn't have happened if the van driver had waited and given way as he was required to do by law.
@idontpayroadtax Lol. What about all the poor cyclists who can't be identified who should not be on the road? Yep the guy was wrong, but a simple act of common sense on your part would have prevented all this. Should you be fined for your videos you post of you going up to people and harassing/intimidation them for what you believe is poor driving? The roads are to be shared and it works 2 ways.
Glad he got both a fine and points. He is clearly a fuckign dick who shoudl not be on the road.
Sure, pulling out on someone happens, but you see your mistake and appologise and take a mouthful of abuse if need be, but to be that much of a fucknut simply means that he pulled out deliberately
Van driver was a complete dickhead. Unfortunately when they are in their car they have all the power and unless you have a camera on your bike no one gives a fuck. Like cyclists are a massive hassle on the road. People get pisses off coz on the odd occasion cycling pays off and you can travel faster. But people can't handle that. Instead they hate you for making them wait 10 secs extra for an opportunity to go round you safely.
What a twat. people like @milldabeast519 need to get their head out of their arsehole. I don't know what planet they are from, and I also do not know why so many idiots have this perception that the amount of money they pay is proportional to the amount of right they have on the road. What the fuck is wrong with these people? By the same logic that would mean that anyone with a more expensive car that costs more to run has the highest priority and everyone should get out of their way.
@0snakebite. I must apologise for him. I assumed he was from the USA with his short-sighted and bigotted views. Apparently he is Canadian - and I thought they were the educated and well-infomred people of that side of the Atlantic.
@0snakebite dont fabricate fairy tales up in your head to make your life go on loser.the price of your car has nothing to do with it. we arent talking about insurance fool. we are talking about hundreds of dollars we pay to have the privilege of driving. thats what driving a motor vehicle is considered. and riding a bike should also be considered that. which would mean they have a right to take that aways from you if you fuck up. donkey
Charming for her to throw something at you. Did she spit at you as well? I live in Portsmouth and Gosport is not on my favourites list. Many people in Gosport are gobby I have found. Did you actually get him done? Well done if you did.
@SarahLM2211 Yes I know. I've lived in Portsmouth all my life and it has its fair share of inbreds. Many people whom I've dealt with in Portsmouth are far too common for me, so I choose not to associate with such individuals.
@BouncePounce. If the police and the crown prosecution service believed his actions warranted prosecution and the court convicted him, why should I have to tolerate his silly decision?
@idontpayroadtax Judging by where your camera was pointed and where you were positioned before the incident you were realistically aware of him, you should have exercised caution and not have deliberately kept on going at that speed you were travelling, slow down next time.
@BouncePounce. My position on the road never changed on my approach to the junction. I was travelling along the line of where the nearside tyres would be for a car for the whole time. The camera was pointing forward because that was the direction I was travelling in.
@idontpayroadtax And thus due to where you were looking you knew about him and failed to slow down. I question wether BOTH of you should be on the road.
@idontpayroadtax I'm wondering if the person in blue car was speeding, and that the van driver saw this causing him to pull out into the gap that was created by the excessive speed of the blue car.
@idontpayroadtax It's how the person it was shouted at in a situation would understand it. In this situation as a bystander I would take it to be aggressive and lead to 'go on then... you t@%&...' or similar. So yes shouting that at someone they could take it to be road rage. Indeed someone who was driving a car in a similar situation would easily be accused of starting road rage.
interesting how no driver is ever in the wrong when confronted, it would be easy to just say sorry, All the moreso as you don't even have to mean it to a complete stranger you nearly killed. its a tiny snapshot of a greedy selfish aggressive little island full of self important no bodies that Britain has become
@milldabeast519 I'm pretty sure he was saying "Your driving" in response to the guy in the vanm probably asking something like "What's your problem?" to the cyclist.
@idontpayroadtax well since u hit that van, i now have a completly different view on this video. i dont blame the van . i would have pulled u over. yes he did pull infront of you like an idiot but u have brakes. USE THEM. u choosed cram beside him instead of braking and staying behind him. u continued to fuel the fire hitiing his vehicle... and its no surprise it led to this...
@milldabeast519. I was travelling at over 20mph. He pulled out and I braked but he was so close when he pulled out I had a choice of the centre of the road or the kerb side. I chose the kerb side because I didn't fancy a head-on collision with the oncoming traffic. If you watch the video properly you will see that he is moving toward the kerb BEFORE i hit his van. The hit was to warn him I was there. Does a hit on the van then excuse the dangerous and inconsiderate driving?
@idontpayroadtax you must have a pretty shitty bike to not be able to stop that fast yet u can ride inches away with one hand and hit his car....the hit on his van doesnt excuse his dangerous driving . are u a hyprocrit cus u seem to think your allowed to hit his van because he faulted? this isnt 2 lanes. so dont ride double wide . he can move closer to the curb if he wants to be a dick!its legal! its not a fuckn bike lane...
@milldabeast519. I was travelling at over 20mph and was confident that I could stop in the space available in front of me. Unfortunately I didn't take into account the Mr Van Driver would take all of the safe space. SO I did brake but he hadn't left enough space.
@idontpayroadtax LOLOLOL im a cyclist. your telling me u couldnt stop that 10 speed fast enough? are u fuckn kidding me?? u must not know how 2 brake on a bike.maybe u should ride a bike on the road ....
bikes should have to pay insurance. atleast liability coverage, if they want to share the road share all the fees we pay to drive on it. 150$ for g1.150$ for g2 .75$ for G(licence).800$ for drivers ed. 2600$ a year for liability (MANDATORY) incase i hurt smbdy else. ONLY covers other drivers . no theft no money for me. why can bikes ride around without liability insurance?vehicle drivers have to make sure everybdy else is protected ,yet cyclists pay nothing for a licence or coverage
@milldabeast519. I do pay insurance. I have third party "liability" insurance for my bike. I don't have license because I don't need one. When I do need a license I will most probably get one. By the way, how will my four year old daughter e able to ride her bike if she has to have a license?
@idontpayroadtax LOL your 4 year old daughter wont be able to ride her bike on city streets like this ! sry bud! keep her on private propety. she can drive a car on private property if u want. but ur gona have to wait till shes a little older . well driving a car is a privilege that u can loose and u HAVE to pay 2 use(other then gas) riding a bike is not a privilege that u can loose or have to pay for. yet they expect equal share of the road? lol get real
@milldabeast519. I expect an equal share of the road because, in the UK, roads are paid for by everyone through general taxes. It's your choice to pay to use a car. Why don't you save yourself some cash and use a bike - it's cheaper.
@idontpayroadtax cars still pay more fees. way more. sure its your choice to pay to "use" a car but most of that isnt for the use of the car its for liability issues like i said. and its MANDITORY unlike cyclists. and u cant ride a bike around all year where im from. and u cant insure a vehicle for just the summer season.
@milldabeast519. Paying to use a car is a lifestyle choice. I can ride a bike all year round and you can purchase limited insurance for part of the year if you shop around.
@idontpayroadtax paying to use a car is a PRIVLEGE . they make that clear when you go through young drivers or defensive /offensive driving coarses.riding a bike is a right. you will always have that right, from what i know theres no punishment that bans you from riding a bike. maybe they should start treating you like big boys now that u have you trainning wheels off.....
@milldabeast519. I would estimate that the majority of serious cyclists have insurance. In the same light, I would like all motorists to have a license, insurance and obey the traffic laws - guess we're both going to be disappointed in 2012.
@idontpayroadtax bullshit they have insurance. they dont even provide it in most parts of the world(cyclist insurance)we have law enforcement out on our streets patrolling making sure motorist have a licence/insurance/ obey traffic laws we dont need idiots like u chasing them down on there bike to inform them. did u gain something from that?call the cops next time.
@milldabeast519. I did involve the cops. That's why the driver went to court, got a caution for assault and a £175 fine for careless driving. Wouldn't it be good if all motorists had a license/insurance/obey traffic laws? That way the law enforcement on your streets could be out catching criminals.
@idontpayroadtax my law enforcement is out catching them. and most motorist have that because its MANDITORY (you know what that means??lol) unlike cyclist. well they do need a horn/working light to make them road worthy .but other then that they arent required to pay thousands of dollars for liability.they can never loose there right to ride a bike if they disobey traffic laws. seems like a pretty gravy deal. bike laws need to evolve so we can get these caveman riders the fuck off the street!
@milldabeast519. I suggest you have a good look in the mirror before labelling others as cavemen. Maybe if you did look in the mirror, you would see what a neanderthal looks like.
@idontpayroadtax bullshit. they dont have insurance for cyclist in most of the world. we have cops enforcing the traffic laws ALL around the world to make sure ppl have there licence insur obey traffic laws,we dont need idiots on there bikes trying to chase ppl down and inform them of there traffic infractions.... call the fuckn cops. insurance is madatory for us it should be for u.
id gladly insure my bike , and m.o.t and tax it , that way id be entitled to ride in the middle of the lane keeping all you inconsiderate arse hole's behind me and i would'nt have to worry about being run off the road into railing or pedestrian's by ass hat's such as your self !
BTW , you would moan like a fucking woman if you had to m.o.t ,tax and insure your childrens bike's would'nt you ?
@milldabeast519 For a start we don't pollute nor damage the roads, In the UK you are taxed based around your emissions and a weighted factor of Axle weight to the power of 4. Thus a bike does miniscule damage to the roads here compared to say the big lazy 4x4's you get which pay the highest bands. Also priuses and other electric cars pay nothing either here. I'll happily pay £0.01 for my right to be on the road, gladly! it'll cost the government much more to collect it though!
@RocketScientist79 the payment isnt just for damage and pollution... this pollution bullshit just started recently after they brainwashed all you sheep into global warming non sense. you also pay to be on the road taking up space! you pay for lights and signs and all that other shit that make roads work to! do u not use them moron? if everybdy stop driving vehicles and we let you idiots pay .01 cent to maintain roads wtf do u think would happen? THINK
@milldabeast519. In the UK roads are paid for by ALL taxpayers from general taxation and local council tax. Should we ban those on social benifits from the road because they don't pay income tax? If everybody stopped driving there would be a lot more cyclists on the road. I eagerly await your next flawed argument .....
@idontpayroadtax yea we alllll pay them yes. vehicles pay more PERIOD! so more money more shares, its like that with anything in the world what dont u understand? the thousannds of dollars more we pay to drive?? thats the part u cant figure out?? if we split a case of beer u aint gettn 18 out of it fool where the fuck are u from....
Would you like to know how much that liability coverage costs a cyclist? Less than £20.00 a year. Deduct the company's profit margin, admin and printing costs, postage + one letter a year, and the phone operators. The hard-headed business, *actuarial*, calculation of the risks posed by a cyclist are less than £10 ($15).
You don't like paying so much for the risks posed by driving? Simples - be safe, save money, and get on your bike.
a bicycle is not a motor powered vehcle ,, are you saying people in wheel chair's and disability scooters should have liability insurance ? besides i hit some one on my bike at 15 - 20 mph do i kill them ? no i dont , are they seriously injured ? no there not ! that's because a bike doe's not weigh a ton or over so dont have much of an inertia impact .
enjoy your mandatory liability, your country is screwing you real good :)
@tolikechicken Did you know it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk because it is considered a vehicle. Only when the roads are considered dangerous do you have a right to be on the sidewalk.
@idontpayroadtax as somebody who cycles infrequently and lives in Gosport, I really sympathise - that road is a complete hazard as it is. However, I am more often a pedestrian and many cyclists don't help themselves - especially those cycling al over the pavement either side of the ferry. Nearly every other day sees one nearly (or actually) hitting somebody.
@cphughes100. Thanks for the comments. I sympathise with you about Gosport ferry - there are nice big "No cycling" signs there but they are still ignored. Maybe a request to the local Hampshire constabulary would help with a bit of enforcement.
Dang. This van driver is not safe. Pulls out, tries taming you into the curb 3-4 times and constantly slowing down to purposely anoy the cyclist behind. Crazy. I had a jag almost side swipe me once because he was not paying attention from the road he was pulling out of. I had to swerve it oncoming cars almost to avoid the jag. I shook my head at him after skidding to a stop. Did not yell at jag driver coz it was a common accident and I did not want an angry jag driver onto me with his car.
Going by the sticker on his rear door, he has a performance motorcycle (Yoshimura race cams?? someone correct me if I'm wrong please) I expect to see him embedded in the side of truck that pulls out in front of him fairly soon. Oh, I don't pay "road tax" either, and I drive a big gas guzzling 4x4! (41 year ols Land Rover.) Well done for keeping your cool... and your eyes open. This could have ended a lot differently.
Christ what a DANGEROUS DRIVER he is. This video is quite shocking and the thrown question about us fellow bikers no paying road tax is getting a joke now. On the CTC forum a thread was started about all clubing together and paying for one page of a national newspaper to highlight this problem and that we are ALLOWED on our roads, the page was to cost £35,000 and looked like it was to be done, but then advice was given to to let the paper have all this money.
"Ya don't pay road tax, so I'll pull out in front of you and use my van as a dangerous weapon. And I've done nothing wrong cos I drives a van" And we wonder why van drivers have a bad rep. Good in you Poster for informing the police. if he got away with it, what would he do next time.
175 pounds and a caution? Is that it? If he'd taken a swing at you with a several tonne machine of any other kind, he'd be in prison... but it's somehow different when people deliberately endanger lives of others with their motor vehicle... why?
Thats the reason I have cameras front and back. If I had been on a bike I would have held back slightly to avoid the dick running me off the road. In 10 years all cars will be fitted with cctv to prevent/detect insurance scams and lack of any bastard wanting to provide witness statements
Good video, I dont like that argument 'no ones paid road tax since yaddaayadda' though. Its abit like saying car tax is just the same as national insurance or something. You only pay it if you have a car so lets not use it again.
@idontpayroadtax yeah but in theory because a car user pays whateveritscalled tax they pay more for road upkeep than a cyclist if everything else in their lives was identical.
@Pentdad. Vehicle drivers pay vehicle excise duty (VED). Low emission cars below 99gm/km pay nothing so how do they "pay" for the roads? Road funding comes out of general taxation and I pay my taxes. It is an individuals choice to pay VED, if someone chooses to drive a big 4x4 then they shouldn't gripe about the tax they have to pay to keep it on the road. If they aren't happy paying that much VED they should get a more emission friendly vhicle and stop complaining.
@Pentdad In fact it's the other way around... cyclist who don't drive actually subsidise motorists because COUNCIL TAX pays for roads (with the exception of Motorways, which cycles can't use).
It's no different to childless people paying for schools, or healthy people paying for hospitals.
The true reflection of tax on motorists is with Fuel Duty..... the more you drive, the more you pay.
@Pentdad I cant agree with that. We all pay taxes as a consequence of our choices and situation. Having a vehicle on the road means you pay tax for that vehicle. "all things being equal" would have to take into account income, alcohol, cigarette etc. use and even how much money you take from the state ie council house,
@Pentdad evreyone pays for the roads , it comes form genral taxation , Ved , which people call "raod tax" is based on emitions , and i drive a high pollution van is realy a good argument?
Faults at both sides tbh...As i am myself a van driver i find alot of things annoy me on the road but the best way is to just simply let it go alot less hassle.
As I state so often; fix a piece of rebar across the rear your bicycle. Paint it orange, and put a bright flag on the end of it. Drivers think twice about using their car as a weapon when you impersonate a porcupine.
Pulling out in front of you was all in a days commute, until he decided to assault you. Very adult of you not to get provoked by his actions; civilization would go out the window if we aren't able to swallow our pride once in a while.
While it's good to see successful prosecution, it's a shame that clearly intentional driving to hit you like this doesn't go to a ban, or at least suspension. 5 points is relatively hefty, but c'mon. He SMIDGAFs you, tries to hit you, then stays (dangerously) far to the right the lure you up the inside to try and hit you a couple more times, all the while shouting and (therefore) not paying attention to the road. Unacceptable.
I don't cycle but I agree with the cyclist. Cars and vans are too dangerous to be acting aggressively like that. A cyclist's life is worth more than the 2mins you will save by overtaking him dangerously. Drivers need to cop on (Yes...I AM a driver, and never cycle)
You could see he was trying to pull out. You shout at him and hit his van and you're suprised he tried to scat you over!? You had no idea who was driving the van, you're lucky he didn't get out and wack you.Have some common sense ffs!
@chemicalcleare41 So could all the cars in front; none of them let him out, even though the gaps were of similar size. The van then deliberately swerved into the side, and did so on a number of further occasions, whilst the passenger shouted out of the window. The cyclist shouted initially, but wouldn't you if someone pulled out on you (or actually, you'd use your horn, which is not the intended use for a horn anyway but has become so).
@chemicalcleare41 Additionally, what's the logic behind the "you had no idea" argument. Does that mean we shouldn't complain if our food's bad in a restaurant because "we have no idea who the chef is" or we shouldn't report a crime to the police, because "we have no idea who the robber is?" If the van driver got out it would go from a driving crime to an assault, and people shouldn't have to let aggressive idiots rule over them through threats of physical violence.
The van pulled out in front of him which he probably wouldnt have done if it was a car coming. Not only that but when the cyclist went to overtake on the inside as the van was going slow, the van driver then swerved to block the cyclist which is why he hit the back of the van. What would you do if you were cycling and a van swerved into you almost squashing you against the curb? After that the van drive really slow allowing the cyclist to start to over take before swerving ...
@chemicalcleare41 Doesnt matter if the cyclist saw he was trying to pull out or not. He did not have right of way and had to yield to traffic until it was SAFE to pull out.
Pulling out on a cyclist like that is psychotic, especially as the cyclist was travelling at a speed where he would have been unable to stop in time. If you watch the video again, you will see the cyclist had to take evasive manoeuvres and go along the kerbside of the van to avoid a collision.
@idontpayroadtax Oh, I'm in the UK. It should be either way. You could definitely prove intent to harm you with his van when he moved into oncoming traffic and slowed down, and then moved and tried to crush you between the barrier and the side of the van - I would have beaten the ever living shit out of the side of his van if he had done that to me so that he had to get out to sort insurance and then I could have done the same to his face. Fat van driving cunt
bicyclists are incredibly fucking annoying. Stop clogging up our roads and making everything more dangerous for everyone. All you do is get in the damn way.
@envirocopy512 How the fuck do they clog up the roads? They're much tinier than cars... Try driving properly and allowing for them! And before you start, I'm a total petrolhead and love cars. Maybe I'm just a better driver than you
@envirocopy512 Har har, what a narrow minded *****. How exactly does a bicycle clog up the road more than a car? Seems the fumes have got to the last of your brain cells you daft twit.
@envirocopy512 Cars are incredibly fucking annoying. Stop clogging up our roads and making everything more dangerous for everyone. All you do is get in the damn way.
Seriously. What clogs up roads more, a cyclist (width: 50cm, length: 1.5m, weight: 80kg) or cars (width: 1.5-3m, length: 3-5m, weight: 500kg-2,500kg)?
Cyclists dont clog up the roads, nor do they make it more dangerous. Its people who cant drive who make the roads more dangerous. If you went to overtake a cyclist then hit someone in the oncoming lane whos fault is it? Because its not the cyclists. It would be your fault for being impatient and careless. Having a cyclist hold you up for 20 seconds isnt the end of the world, but hitting someone because of your impatience could be the end of someone elses.
How is a 20kg bike more dangerous than a 2 tonne car? You will find, if you look at any road during rush hour that it is, in fact, clogged up with cars. Contrast this with the Netherlands where far more people cycle, yet you never see a traffic jam for bikes...
The biggest flaw in your argument is that you tried to reason with the guy in English, a language too complex for him to understand being a white van driver and all. Next time try talking caveman i.e. 'yakka yakka, ugg ugg!" and he might understand :)
Not faster than the speed limit though. Seeing as he was within the law (not that a cyclist can be done for speeding), the van man should have waited. if he'd have seen a car he would have done. Demonstrates that he has less respect for a bike. This shows in his actions...
glad that retard van driver got finned.... I really do hate it when I see cyclists that want keep healthy getting cut up by bob the useless builder..... good on ya for arguing with him
FANTASTIC. I am fanatical about cars and myself a motorist, but I also ride bikes, the van was WELL out of order, using his van as a weapon by driving you into the kerb. I commute 12 miles a day and see some ridiculous moves by half witted motorists (including a lorry pushing through a busy zebra crossing making pedestrians run!), I've just ordered a helmet camera, it will be fantastic reporting some of these morons.

balls to the morons saying you lost your cool if a guy kept pulling in on me like that on my mountain bike OR my motorbike .........he wouldnt get away with a simple fine
Good work mate, i am a white van man and drive all day. you have pointed out these idiots that give most of us a bad name . i ad other true van drivers are very respectful and just want to get get that across to people.
If that had been a HGV instead of a bike but doing the same speed white van would not have moved 1" I gave up bikes for the very reason its too dangerous and yes bike riders dont help but given the potential for serious injury or death you have to give them just a little tolerance.
There were faults on both sides here - near the end of the video you turn your head which shows the traffic behind you, which is heavy. The van driver was obviously looking for an opportunity - the biggest gap was between you and the car in front, and to be fair to him, he made his intentions very clear early on by edging out, it wasn't a case of him just blindly pulling out just as you passed him, and you had PLENTY of room to slow down and just let him out. A kid would probably have done this.
@JulianShagworthy. The traffic behind was light. There was only a build up of cars because Mr Van decided to drive like a muppet at 10mph. He certainly was looking for an opportunity and he found it.
@JulianShagworthy Nice to see the law is fining these twats on the road I live in the area and If heed stopped after doing that to me on my bike he would have a lot more to pay out beside the fine on facial reconstruction on dental work. Dont assume all cyclist are soft targets.
@JulianShagworthy i dont ride a bike i drive a car and the bike had right of way. dose not matter if its a bike or a car whoever is going along the MAIN ROAD has right of was over someone joining the main road. this van driver was 100% at fault and that is obviosly right and hes got 5 points and £175 fine to back me up!
@JulianShagworthy with all due respect i think you need glasses. He shouldn't have pulled out as there was not room as he caused someone to brake hard. This driver was being a complete twat and i bet if confronted then wouldn't be so big.
@JulianShagworthy not only that but you're not suppose to bring a cyclist to almost a full stop if u turn out of the road. cyclist should be given just as much room as a car (in the highway code)
Seriously?!? I've watched this a couple of times and the driving is nowhere near bad enough to warrant a prosecution. Any argument that breaks out is almost exclusively incited by the cyclist's idiocy, and hence totally unnecessary. Oh and the road tax argument is completely flawed.
Very well done. Such a shame the Met don't take such behaviour seriously. It is so refreshing to see a thug being brought to account for once. I culn't disagree more with those who suggest that cyclists should just cravenly accept this sort of thing.

@0snakebite dont fabricate fairy tales up in your head to make your life go on loser.the price of your car has nothing to do with it. we arent talking about insurance fool. we are talking about hundreds of dollars we pay to have the privilege of driving. thats what driving a motor vehicle is considered. and riding a bike should also be considered that. which would mean they have a right to take that aways from you if you fuck up. donkey

@BouncePounce. If the police and the crown prosecution service believed his actions warranted prosecution and the court convicted him, why should I have to tolerate his silly decision?
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago
@idontpayroadtax Judging by where your camera was pointed and where you were positioned before the incident you were realistically aware of him, you should have exercised caution and not have deliberately kept on going at that speed you were travelling, slow down next time.
BouncePounce 1 month ago
@BouncePounce. My position on the road never changed on my approach to the junction. I was travelling along the line of where the nearside tyres would be for a car for the whole time. The camera was pointing forward because that was the direction I was travelling in.

@idontpayroadtax And thus due to where you were looking you knew about him and failed to slow down. I question wether BOTH of you should be on the road.

@BouncePounce. According to my bike computer it was 32kph (about 21mph).

@idontpayroadtax well since u hit that van, i now have a completly different view on this video. i dont blame the van . i would have pulled u over. yes he did pull infront of you like an idiot but u have brakes. USE THEM. u choosed cram beside him instead of braking and staying behind him. u continued to fuel the fire hitiing his vehicle... and its no surprise it led to this...
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. I was travelling at over 20mph. He pulled out and I braked but he was so close when he pulled out I had a choice of the centre of the road or the kerb side. I chose the kerb side because I didn't fancy a head-on collision with the oncoming traffic. If you watch the video properly you will see that he is moving toward the kerb BEFORE i hit his van. The hit was to warn him I was there. Does a hit on the van then excuse the dangerous and inconsiderate driving?
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago

SO I did brake but he hadn't left enough space.

bikes should have to pay insurance. atleast liability coverage, if they want to share the road share all the fees we pay to drive on it. 150$ for g1.150$ for g2 .75$ for G(licence).800$ for drivers ed. 2600$ a year for liability (MANDATORY) incase i hurt smbdy else. ONLY covers other drivers . no theft no money for me. why can bikes ride around without liability insurance?vehicle drivers have to make sure everybdy else is protected ,yet cyclists pay nothing for a licence or coverage
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. I do pay insurance. I have third party "liability" insurance for my bike. I don't have license because I don't need one. When I do need a license I will most probably get one. By the way, how will my four year old daughter e able to ride her bike if she has to have a license?
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago
@idontpayroadtax LOL your 4 year old daughter wont be able to ride her bike on city streets like this ! sry bud! keep her on private propety. she can drive a car on private property if u want. but ur gona have to wait till shes a little older . well driving a car is a privilege that u can loose and u HAVE to pay 2 use(other then gas) riding a bike is not a privilege that u can loose or have to pay for. yet they expect equal share of the road? lol get real
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. I expect an equal share of the road because, in the UK, roads are paid for by everyone through general taxes. It's your choice to pay to use a car. Why don't you save yourself some cash and use a bike - it's cheaper.
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago
@idontpayroadtax cars still pay more fees. way more. sure its your choice to pay to "use" a car but most of that isnt for the use of the car its for liability issues like i said. and its MANDITORY unlike cyclists. and u cant ride a bike around all year where im from. and u cant insure a vehicle for just the summer season.
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. Paying to use a car is a lifestyle choice. I can ride a bike all year round and you can purchase limited insurance for part of the year if you shop around.
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago
@idontpayroadtax paying to use a car is a PRIVLEGE . they make that clear when you go through young drivers or defensive /offensive driving coarses.riding a bike is a right. you will always have that right, from what i know theres no punishment that bans you from riding a bike. maybe they should start treating you like big boys now that u have you trainning wheels off.....
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. I would estimate that the majority of serious cyclists have insurance. In the same light, I would like all motorists to have a license, insurance and obey the traffic laws - guess we're both going to be disappointed in 2012.
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago
@idontpayroadtax bullshit they have insurance. they dont even provide it in most parts of the world(cyclist insurance)we have law enforcement out on our streets patrolling making sure motorist have a licence/insurance/ obey traffic laws we dont need idiots like u chasing them down on there bike to inform them. did u gain something from that?call the cops next time.
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. I did involve the cops. That's why the driver went to court, got a caution for assault and a £175 fine for careless driving. Wouldn't it be good if all motorists had a license/insurance/obey traffic laws? That way the law enforcement on your streets could be out catching criminals.
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago 6
@idontpayroadtax my law enforcement is out catching them. and most motorist have that because its MANDITORY (you know what that means??lol) unlike cyclist. well they do need a horn/working light to make them road worthy .but other then that they arent required to pay thousands of dollars for liability.they can never loose there right to ride a bike if they disobey traffic laws. seems like a pretty gravy deal. bike laws need to evolve so we can get these caveman riders the fuck off the street!

THCmuzicalmasta 1 month ago
@milldabeast519 For a start we don't pollute nor damage the roads, In the UK you are taxed based around your emissions and a weighted factor of Axle weight to the power of 4. Thus a bike does miniscule damage to the roads here compared to say the big lazy 4x4's you get which pay the highest bands. Also priuses and other electric cars pay nothing either here. I'll happily pay £0.01 for my right to be on the road, gladly! it'll cost the government much more to collect it though!
RocketScientist79 1 month ago
@RocketScientist79 the payment isnt just for damage and pollution... this pollution bullshit just started recently after they brainwashed all you sheep into global warming non sense. you also pay to be on the road taking up space! you pay for lights and signs and all that other shit that make roads work to! do u not use them moron? if everybdy stop driving vehicles and we let you idiots pay .01 cent to maintain roads wtf do u think would happen? THINK
milldabeast519 1 month ago
@milldabeast519. In the UK roads are paid for by ALL taxpayers from general taxation and local council tax. Should we ban those on social benifits from the road because they don't pay income tax? If everybody stopped driving there would be a lot more cyclists on the road. I eagerly await your next flawed argument .....
idontpayroadtax 1 month ago

Simples - be safe, save money, and get on your bike.
growingvegetable 1 month ago
@milldabeast519
a bicycle is not a motor powered vehcle ,, are you saying people in wheel chair's and disability scooters should have liability insurance ? besides i hit some one on my bike at 15 - 20 mph do i kill them ? no i dont , are they seriously injured ? no there not ! that's because a bike doe's not weigh a ton or over so dont have much of an inertia impact .
enjoy your mandatory liability, your country is screwing you real good :)

@idontpayroadtax as somebody who cycles infrequently and lives in Gosport, I really sympathise - that road is a complete hazard as it is. Pentdad 7 months ago
@Pentdad. I think you've missed your own point. No one pays road tax or car tax.
idontpayroadtax 7 months ago
@idontpayroadtax yeah but in theory because a car user pays whateveritscalled tax they pay more for road upkeep than a cyclist if everything else in their lives was identical.
Pentdad 7 months ago
If they aren't happy paying that much VED they should get a more emission friendly vhicle and stop complaining.
idontpayroadtax 7 months ago 14
@idontpayroadtax I agree
Pentdad 7 months ago
@Pentdad In fact it's the other way around... cyclist who don't drive actually subsidise motorists because COUNCIL TAX pays for roads (with the exception of Motorways, which cycles can't use).
It's no different to childless people paying for schools, or healthy people paying for hospitals.
The true reflection of tax on motorists is with Fuel Duty..... the more you drive, the more you pay.
Cliffjumper24 7 months ago 2
@Pentdad I cant agree with that. We all pay taxes as a consequence of our choices and situation. Having a vehicle on the road means you pay tax for that vehicle. "all things being equal" would have to take into account income, alcohol, cigarette etc. use and even how much money you take from the state ie council house,
phipperrr 6 months ago

As I state so often; fix a piece of rebar across the rear your bicycle. Paint it orange, and put a bright flag on the end of it. Drivers think twice about using their car as a weapon when you impersonate a porcupine.
Pulling out in front of you was all in a days commute, until he decided to assault you. Very adult of you not to get provoked by his actions; civilization would go out the window if we aren't able to swallow our pride once in a while.
Nomasain 8 months ago
While it's good to see successful prosecution, it's a shame that clearly intentional driving to hit you like this doesn't go to a ban, or at least suspension. 5 points is relatively hefty, but c'mon. He SMIDGAFs you, tries to hit you, then stays (dangerously) far to the right the lure you up the inside to try and hit you a couple more times, all the while shouting and (therefore) not paying attention to the road. Unacceptable.

detailairbrushing 9 months ago 2
You could see he was trying to pull out. You shout at him and hit his van and you're suprised he tried to scat you over!? You had no idea who was driving the van, you're lucky he didn't get out and wack you.Have some common sense ffs!
chemicalcleare41 9 months ago
@chemicalcleare41 So could all the cars in front; none of them let him out, even though the gaps were of similar size. The van then deliberately swerved into the side, and did so on a number of further occasions, whilst the passenger shouted out of the window. The cyclist shouted initially, but wouldn't you if someone pulled out on you (or actually, you'd use your horn, which is not the intended use for a horn anyway but has become so).
Infernostr1ke 9 months ago
@chemicalcleare41 Additionally, what's the logic behind the "you had no idea" argument. Does that mean we shouldn't complain if our food's bad in a restaurant because "we have no idea who the chef is" or we shouldn't report a crime to the police, because "we have no idea who the robber is?" If the van driver got out it would go from a driving crime to an assault, and people shouldn't have to let aggressive idiots rule over them through threats of physical violence.
Infernostr1ke 9 months ago
@chemicalcleare41
IP1NKYI 8 months ago
@chemicalcleare41
towards him again. After allowing the cyclist to get close to the window he then shouts abuse and throws something at the cyclist.
To me that is purely the van drivers bad driving and assault on the cyclist.
IP1NKYI 8 months ago
@chemicalcleare41 Doesnt matter if the cyclist saw he was trying to pull out or not. He did not have right of way and had to yield to traffic until it was SAFE to pull out.
Pulling out on a cyclist like that is psychotic, especially as the cyclist was travelling at a speed where he would have been unable to stop in time. If you watch the video again, you will see the cyclist had to take evasive manoeuvres and go along the kerbside of the van to avoid a collision.

How is a 20o=kg bike more dangerous than a 2 tonne car? There is no logic in that. Have some patience!

How is a 20kg bike more dangerous than a 2 tonne car? You will find, if you look at any road during rush hour that it is, in fact, clogged up with cars. Contrast this with the Netherlands where far more people cycle, yet you never see a traffic jam for bikes...

Good for you mate! Well done! Shame the fine wasn't a bit heavier.

The biggest flaw in your argument is that you tried to reason with the guy in English, a language too complex for him to understand being a white van driver and all. Next time try talking caveman i.e. 'yakka yakka, ugg ugg!" and he might understand :)

the driver was a cock, but id say the guy on bike was going very fast
victoryleader 11 months ago
@victoryleader

(I recommend an 'Airzound' bike horn too!)
Good job!

Good work mate, i am a white van man and drive all day. you have pointed out these idiots that give most of us a bad name . i ad other true van drivers are very respectful and just want to get get that across to people.
brunnerUK 1 year ago 16

JulianShagworthy 1 year ago
@JulianShagworthy. The traffic behind was light. There was only a build up of cars because Mr Van decided to drive like a muppet at 10mph. He certainly was looking for an opportunity and he found it.

@JulianShagworthy Nice to see the law is fining these twats on the road I live in the area and If heed stopped after doing that to me on my bike he would have a lot more to pay out beside the fine on facial reconstruction on dental work. Dont assume all cyclist are soft targets.
Mart571 1 year ago
@JulianShagworthy i dont ride a bike i drive a car and the bike had right of way. dose not matter if its a bike or a car whoever is going along the MAIN ROAD has right of was over someone joining the main road. this van driver was 100% at fault and that is obviosly right and hes got 5 points and £175 fine to back me up!
jonodrummerboy 11 months ago
@JulianShagworthy what is wrong with you?
xchopp 10 months ago
@JulianShagworthy You're kidding? Would the van have pulled out on a car approaching at that distance and that speed?
Abo999 9 months ago
@JulianShagworthy with all due respect i think you need glasses. He shouldn't have pulled out as there was not room as he caused someone to brake hard. This driver was being a complete twat and i bet if confronted then wouldn't be so big.
bluewinegum 9 months ago
@JulianShagworthy not only that but you're not suppose to bring a cyclist to almost a full stop if u turn out of the road. cyclist should be given just as much room as a car (in the highway code)
ROYALstraightFLUSH22 7 months ago
Seriously?!? I've watched this a couple of times and the driving is nowhere near bad enough to warrant a prosecution. Any argument that breaks out is almost exclusively incited by the cyclist's idiocy, and hence totally unnecessary. Oh and the road tax argument is completely flawed.
borisallen 1 year ago
Great to hear the idiot got prosecuted !

Very well done. Such a shame the Met don't take such behaviour seriously. It is so refreshing to see a thug being brought to account for once. I culn't disagree more with those who suggest that cyclists should just cravenly accept this sort of thing.
