My father told me as a African American gay male, to stay in the closest, and not bring shame, on the family! And America will limit your opportunity. And in history, black men were castrated and hung, and raped etc! I feel the white American gay culture has no place for blacks either? I want to just be happy and have a good life! Diversity is America greatest strength! I will work for a better America for all!
I love the term heterosexism. I've been using the work, heteronormativity on and off but you're not alone. I was canvassing out in a Latino neighborhood this Saturday talking to the community and I get the same thing from all the Catholics. It's better to hide the gays and trans people in your family. This couldn't have come at a better time when there isn't a ballot initiative on same-sex marriage so we can win the support of more straight people. Let's be honest. We need more work.
