  • that's too bad for iDevices users. i am watching this video on my tablet and i can use the regular youtube flash player :)

  • I don't like this guy.

  • Who has the last laugh bitches?

FLASH FOR MOBILE IS DEAD. HTML5 Rules

    R.I.P Steve Jobs

  • @ThePakiSami He was always right! RIP

  • @ThePakiSami

your comment suggests your brain cells have crashed

  • @richie30787

To me it seems that your fingers are not just responsible for typing but thinking as well. Have you ever considered suing your brain?

Flash Player for mobile devices is officially dead. Adobe is reaffirming its commitment to "aggressively contribute" to HTML5, a platform with broader support and capabilities than Flash was ever able to deliver.

  • i've been in love with flash for many many years... but i just dont use it to build websites. html5 is becoming really a big thing but i believes flash as a strong word on game developing area and also mobile apps... only my opinion!...

  • Comment removed

  • html5 > flash ;]

  • Flash has always been a poorly optimized application. The system monitor on both Windows and Linux display Flash as being very INEFFICIENT. The issue with today's software code is: write sloppy, let the fast processors make up the difference. That view, clearly demonstrated in Flash, is going to cost them. I can't WAIT for the day when we all look back and laugh at how we had to use Flash in "the old days".

  • look at the guys face at 4:00 ... LOL

  • Sheesh.. even in my i5 2500k and 5870 gpu set up.. I still occasionally experience crashes with flash.

  • Man, how come this guy sounds like a used car sells man !!

  • And Now HTML 5 Dominated the Mobile Plugin... Wow Apple is like the The future?

  • Can somoene explain to me why these Flash developers can't be honest about all the crashing Flash causes? blogs(dot)adobe(dot)com/conversations/2011/11/flash-focus(dot)html

  • I got fed up of my android browser crashing so I uninstalled flash...now all is well.

  • So, are these guys jobless now?

  • @Tordah26

    /watch?v=DUWo19BcC7s

    try again

  • Steve was write flash has never been good and never will sooner flash will die out and everything would be good nobody will miss it.

  • I know this has nothing to do with the video but the guy has a black face but white hands whats up with that?!?!

  • @2010DarkDevilUK I think there's a spotlight directly above him, casting a shadow on his face and lighting-up his hands! lol

  • @den2003 Ah ok :)

  • I'm sick and tired of Flash crashing in Firefox.

  • hahahahaha

  • Puh-lease. It's not a matter of forgetting that you left your app on! As soon as I fire up a Flash video (YouTube) my battery meter drops from 2.5 hours remaining to less than one hour. It's just so inefficient and CPU-intensive!

  • I turned flash off on my android phone. Never turned it back again and don't miss it.

I use Chrome and Firefox and the never crash...except when flash crashes!

  • Fat man on the left can be compared to flash!

  • The flash man has white hands but a black face. What the hell is going on?

  • most of them think that flash crashes often but they dont realize its the stupid IE that causes the crash...

  • Jobs was right...using flash on my HTC is the most annoying experience ever. Everything becomes glitchy...

  • Flash player works good on my android devices...alot of web pages use flash so its a handy app to have

  • apple sucks

  • "Why Adobe Flash isn't on the Apple" - immediately revealed himself to be a moron when he said that.

  • android is a stolen product...google stole the whole idea from ios and came up with ''android''..google can innovate and create and the better they do is stealing and copying ideas of other products..the developer will never stop making apps for the app store because android market is a mess..i used both apple and android,,android sucked..

  • @rasss556 they all steal from each other, like the touch screen, camera, apps but android makes it better, and apples products are locked.

  • Flash works well on my phone? It never runs all the time in the back ground either. Its a useful feature to have love or hate it, its everywhere.

  • first of all apple can make flash work if they wanted to and it don't matter how good flash is or how fast the iphone 4s is with it's boosted gpu and duo cores. apple will never ever ever ever ever support flash ever!. haha it's suicide. why would they kill themselves. they would loose all of their iphone developers which would kill their app store and then people will stop buying iphones cause they can't download their favorite applications. unlike google, they innovate and create.

  • i just tried out android, i feel like puking now.

  • @futuremtt The interface, gltiches and lag? Or one of the other many reasons it's terrible?

  • @tomo0086 The interface is just not very responsive. when i press, it doesn't respond. have to press it like 2 or 3 or 4 times. and why does it shake everytime i press something. annoying. then the worst thing, how to go back?...i found out it's a separate button that's not on the screen but on the hardware. lol. Oh and there's only 1 reason why Apple won't endorse flash. They have this idea that's making them a ton of money and main reason for driving iphone sales. it's called appstore.

  • @futuremtt I know, android is terrible.

  • He thinks they have a "tremendously talented group of engineers" working on Flash?

  • LOL Flash just crashed while I was watching this video.

  • dudes a dork, drop some acid and get your hand on the game.

  • Using flash to watch a video is like putting your tablet into a plastic bag when using it. Of course you can but its not efficient.

  • There is flash emulators haven't you heard of the slyfire web browser on iPhone or iPad it plays flash.

  • I have a good question: instead of wasting energy complaining about it, why won't adobe DO something to bring flash browsers / players / emulators to the apple app store? Other people have done it, and why hasn't Adobe? They just don't care about flash, and never has... ask Macromedia :)

  • It's funny how not until a major company decides not use Flash because it sucks balls, then you try to fix it. To little to late. Why would a company want to use Flash when they can use HTML5 and not pay Adobe 1 cent (But of course, that's why Adobe is on the defensive).

  • Flash is so horribly engineered. It's about as bad as Intuit software, if not worse. I'm so thankful Jobs elected not to include it in their products; the world needs Flash to die.

  • @raz3rslushi flash is more than 50% of the web apple needs to put it dammit!!!!

  • @raz3rslushi hmmm well lets think about this. Flash was sufficient until Steve Jobs said it wasn't. In fact, Steve Jobs doesn't like HTML5 either. He wants something apple makes. Apple wants to control everything. Which would be stupid.

  • @pdiddles03,

"Flash was sufficient"? It was an awesome product when Macromedia had it, but as soon as Adobe bought it, it became just like all of their other software: bloated, frustrating to design with, frustrating to use, and generally poorly implemented. Furthermore, Steve Jobs can go eat his own underwear for all I care. I couldn't care less about his opinion. OS X is just as crappy as any other OS; there's no magic in Apple products. Apple is pure trend, nothing more.

  • @raz3rslushi Actually there are good OS's. Your just to blind to see it. Windows is far superior to any other OS besides Linux. Flash works fine, you use youtube don't you? there you go. perfect. I love flash, and flash isn't hard to use its really easy. I got a A in my web animation design class :)

  • watching this guy dance around the fact that he knows damn well his product sucks, reminds me of when steve jobs addressed the iphone reception issue with his infamous "free case" speech. #irony

  • Flash is USB. It's dead. Flash needs to go. Apple did the right thing by scrapping Flash. It runs slow as fuck on any mobile phone and is a waste. I love Microsoft and I'm not an Apple fanboy, but I will admit that Apple has done great things like Thunderbolt and Full-Screen touch phones that really affects the way people make products to date. Apple does Innovate, regardless what Apple haters may say.

  • I think Apple is a company that puts it's own interests and pride over it's buyers, and that's why they ignore flash.

  • maybe apple wont put flash on their ipads because it might affect sales of the macbbooks.

  • Flash has better performance than HTML5 (search Youtube, all the results say the same thing). Better performance means efficiency, and and stuttering means lower efficiency.. iPhone and iPad don't even render HTML5 that smoothly.. why would they blame flash when they can't even handle HTML5 at the first place?

And why would you want to save your CPU? CPUs limits are made to be broken. Saying "oh that application is heavy, I won't run it on my CPU" means you have a bloody crapy CPU.

  • HTML5 > Flash

  • @WhoWillSaveTheSane

Very wise and elaborate statement. =( you suck

  • That white guy didn't do anything.

  • good interview though!

  • i suggest getting a tripod for these kinds of interviews with real people.

  • Shut up Shane it's still growing ht only has a 15% growing rate and is bug free

  • Flash is a dying technology. Don't support it; support technology like HTML5 which isn't a resource hog.

  • @Shane74340 Flash isn't dying? It's everywhere you browse on the internet. And probably always will be.

  • @Shane74340 In principal your right ...in practice ...fuck the iSheep.

  • I dont know who's right.

  • are u on meth???

  • Blah blah blah, rubbish Adobe.

There are so many people moaning about Apple but at the end of the day, people will contend with it. How successful are Apple now? Adobe arent making ANY effort to keep up with the high quality technology out there today.

Apple are always thinking ahead, everyone else is just thinking at the same low level.

    adobe suckers: point taken.

  • @opTreadstone True..... but without Adobe, Apple would have most likely been dead.

Check out the evolution of Mac OS (before and up to Os X)

  • @hectorae86 i know the history thanks lol! But, Apple aren't dead right?! They pick technologies that have potential and push it further. That's why they are one of the most successful companies. Adobe can winge and moan but they lack the focus and innovation. One step behind, all the time :(

  • @opTreadstone Funny thing is though, that Apple is one of the companies that helped realize HTML5 (So is Microsoft and Google and a lot more), in stead of helping out the people that helped them out in the past...... i don't know.... to me it looks like a stab in the back, but than again, the whole industry works that way.

  • @hectorae86 I know what you mean, a business is a business I guess!

  • i dont understand this guy explanation

  • Apple should give choice, make it as an option...

  • apples gay they should just have flash on their devices

  • I hope IPS never gets flash, they don't deserve it. Android shall keep open and free ideas as it should be. DROID X.

  • vin diesel?

  • The bottom line is, as long as the iPad and the iPhone are popular, as they seem to be, Apple won't budge from its stand on Flash. Only when there are competing products which do better, and support Flash, only then can you expect Apple to re-consider its opinions on Flash. Not sure that would happen anytime soon.

  • @fernandesfran already here mate. The q4 sales indicate a 32% quota for andriod devices vs a 16% share for apple.

  • Very well put, Anup. You spoke well.

  • Hey everyone search for "Innovative Systems" on facebook and like the page. We need support and we need to show our school numbers!! It has over 1,100 likes already. Check out our website at innovativesystems [dot] siu [dot] edu

  • I am a Linux user and I really hate the closed and proprietary nature of Apple. But I totally agree with Steve Jobs about Adobe. It is one of the very few proprietary softwares I use and the main cause of crashes in my browsers. Flash really sucks and there must be some alternative for it. (Thus we must support and use html5)

What a good quarrel between Apple and Adobe, I wish they both lose.

  • @ShayanTEC

I hate proprietary softwares too as a linux user.

But I don't think adobe is really that bad. Without flash, we could not have such a wonderful experience online today. Without flash, we could not enjoy all the free swf games. And without flash, there could be no Youtube/Youp0γn.

IMO 20% CPU used on flash is more worthy than 10% CPU used on areo or windows animation.

  • @plutoamun Wish I could like it but I can't I'm not an iPad (without flash)

  • mostly advertisements(that makes slow and dirty web-experience), games and UIs that should be optimized from scratch (unless it doesn't work on most devices other than mouse keyboard interface), video containers (which flash was never designed to be). btw the videos on the web are now mostly h.264. which they don't need a ugly inefficient flash container to play it...

  • sony playstation browser doesn't support flash, windows phone7 doesn't support flash, iphone doesn't support flash.. adobe is just trying to hold on with their product for more license and royalty revenue... and the other companies who are shipping products with web browsing capabilities mostly don't support flash... why? they know that flash within the internet(I 'm saying nothing about flash platform itself) does suck..

  • Adobe has always been of excellence. Apple is just hating on them telling lies.

  • As an example of how sucky the Flash player is on the Mac (it's not too hot on Windows either, pardon the pun lol). I can happily get a good 4-6 hours out of my MacBook Pro doing some fairly heavy editing tasks within InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator while browsing the net and listening to music and having Mail open and stuff. Watch YouTube using Flash for an hour and the battery life plummets to 2-3 at the most. How does Flash use more CPU power than fucking Illustrator, Photoshop AND InDesign?

  • The main issue here is not Flash itself. Flash is a brilliant platform that allows you to do some incredible things. The REAL issue is the PLUGIN/PLAYER. It's ATROCIOUS. The simple fact is, Apple told Adobe to come to them with a light weight, efficient player that preferably used the GPU to accelerate it to offload a lot of CPU strain which improves battery life. Adobe simply didn't come back to them with that. Apple doesn't hate Flash, they just have standards.

  • haha apple fails what a bunch of dumb shits

  • I want to start off by saying I'm not a fan of apple products. But anyways I love how the dude remains professional at all times and addresses every concern in a professional manner. He doesn't reduce to 'that's bullshit, or that's inaccurate.' he just gives examples and basically let's the person come to their own conclusion while remaining highly professional, and being proactive on his own opinion and how it relates to the issues. Very classy and I'm glad he took that route.

  • The battery life would drop to 10 minutes

  • imagine if flash did have flash player!

  • Adobe makes terrible software... they had a "hit" in the graphic design industry in the early 90s, then bought or bullied out all of the other good companies. Now they are too top heavy to realize their own flaws.

  • @Silence04 As a user of their software more or less daily for the last decade, that's 100% SPOT ON. They make some amazing tools that can do brilliant things, but they're just so badly made it's embarrassing. They should do alternate releases. Release one as a feature release, then the following one as an "under the hood" type thing, then charge less for it. Like Apple seem to be doing with OSX. Leopard brings features, Snow Leopard refines them and tightens things up.

  • Flash alone > Apple

  • OH WHAT WAS THAT? SORRY YOUR PUNK ASS VIDEO KEPT ST-ST-ST-STUTTERING! FLASH IS DEAD JAVA FOR GRANDMAS HTML 5 ALL DAY WIT SUMMA DAT CSS FOR DA LADIES ITS THE FUTURE THE FUTURE IS IN THE CLOUD AND WE IN HERE IN DA CLOUD STEVE JOB RUNS THE VALLEY. COME 2 CUPERTINO ILL FIGHT YOU. SCHMIDT'S A BITCH TOO U NOTHIN WITHOUT WEBKIT. ENJOY FARMVILLE ON YOUR CRAPDROIDS.

  • @notmyhomies WOW!!!!

  • @notmyhomies man rape

  • @notmyhomies ummmm ok?

  • Everyone need and should agree that Flash is CPU/GPU comsuming, therefore energy consuming. When you are on the move with a netbook you can clearly see you baterry going from "1hour and 50 mns left" to "F.. Hell 40 mns left" and that in a snap. Same goes for the system monitor. Flash is certainly attractive, but it is coded grossly. A truck with a "go green" sticker on it.

  • No flash Apple! FTW!!

  • THE GUY FROM THE RIGHT TALKING TO MUCH ><

  • Wish HTML5 would come along and put a end to adobe flash player shit damb you adobe pricks get on and finish your 64 bit flash player for windows im sick of waiting .

  • Earthquake at 0:27 :p

  • Flash should hurry up and die...

...only an open standard should be used for something that needs to be universally accessed.

I would say that iOS is probably not the way forward as it's so closed, but it doesn't need to be accessed by everyone. It works beautifully on Apple hardware, so it's not the way forward for everyone until it's open, like android. But Apple don't want to be universal so that arguement doesn't work.

  • I just watched this video after watching Job's video. I am not gonna claim this better or this not but HTML 5 is the future for sure. I am a freelance designer / developer and after seeing couple of demos about HTML 5, I was very ambitious about using it. If I look back in last years, I can say that I mainly went for jquery instead of flash for it's advantages. I still have much respect for flash though but it's coming to it's end.

For those who blame that they can't upgrade apple's hardware o

  • Wow, how cheap and tacky. THIS IS why Adobe ain't on the iPhone guys, duh!

  • FLASH IS DEAD - JOIN THE HTML5 REVOLUTION!

  • @WiZSOC as a developer thats a pretty ignorant statement, you are a well known succesfull developer are you not?

  • ROFL i cant watch this video because i dont have adobe flash player :D

  • Everything that Steve Jobs says about Apple supporting Open Standards is complete BS! Here's a comparison, Apples EULA makes Microsoft's EULA look like GNU GPL. In other words, Mac OS X is so proprietary and closed source that it makes Microsoft Windows look like Open Source Software. I'm surprised their hasn't been an anti-trust case against Apple yet. They've done worse than Microsoft. All Microsoft did was include Internet Explorer with Windows and the government just completely freaks out.

  • @Generalkidd Couldn't agree with you more.

  • You know, it's kind of ironic. Steve Jobs gives this whole speech about how much he hates proprietary software and how he prefers open standards like HTML5. Yet, the irony is that Apple Products are the very definition of proprietary. For example, Apple doesn't let you open up your Macs to upgrade the hardware. Apple also doesn't let you install OS X on non-apple hardware. Microsoft Windows on the other and Linux can be installed on virtually any computer. Steve Jobs is a big hypocrite.

  • BEFORE YOU CREATE A DEVICE U MUST PROVIDE THE TOOLS NEEDED OPERATE IT...AND FLASH IS THE FUCKEN SHIT FOR APPLE TO OPERATE...

  • Its all about the company owning the OS wanting to monopolize on its development tools too! Why let a 3rd party profit off the developers of its OS. MS did this to Sun back in the day, now MS n Apple are trying to sideline Flash in the same way.

But this trend is extremely anti-cross-platform! Now if you know about the current OS scene (Mobole/PC), its easy to see a Multi-OS future with no clear monopoly! I wud sure like to bet on Flash coming out strong in such a scenario.

  • Very good, informative and diplomatic response from Adobe. I was rather impressed with how good a speaker the interviewee was.

  • that guy is Phat!

  • And I just noticed that guy looks burnt like literally vie never seen someone look like that weird....?

  • I don't care about apple vs adobe but that guys excuse about leaving an app running was bs and I am not tech savvy but I know bs when I hear it

  • @kindahokey

    Yah except you'd be wrong.

  • @KoschKff wrong about what? and why?

  • @kindahokey

(Yah I hate the youtube ui as well),

You said that the excuse about leaving an app running is bs. But he is absolutely right. Anything you leave on that is working in the background will drain your battery.

The main problem here is that people place the blame on Adobe, not on the lazy programmers who use flash. I'd venture to say 90% of actionscripters do not monitor how much their applications are taxing the cpu. Maybe there needs to be restrictions on devs, not adobe itself.

  • "In addition, Flash has not performed well on mobile devices. We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it. Adobe publicly said that Flash would ship on a smartphone in early 2009, then the second half of 2009, then the first half of 2010, and now they say the second half of 2010. We think it will eventually ship, but were glad we didnt hold our breath. Who knows how it will perform?"

  • yeah you keep saying it's not new and others have the same problems...hence why apple wants something new without the same old problems

  • I'd say good riddense too APPLE. Steve Jobs don't care bout FLASH cause it's not making his company any money for it. And it sucks certain websites for APPLE iphones can't even read it. Says that it will drain battery from what I read but still Steve Jobs is an ass and always will be an ass CEO. Just glad I don't have a Ipod/Iphone still waiting for that perfect ANDROID phone for shitty AT&T.

  • @genestarwindjf80

This could be the beginnings of hyperinflation. We'll probably see a lot of stupid things happening between companies. It's what rich people do when they feel threatened, they trim the fat.

  • Interesting line in Steve Jobs letter 'Thoughts on Flash' - "[html5] is completely open and controlled by a standards committee, of which Apple is a member". Sound's like an oxymoron in disguise to me.

  • @darkstatehk

Maybe he meant to say "maintained" and not "controlled".

  • He makes good points and states the real problem several times.

Flash a cross-platform product and Apple doesn't want Adobe dictating what developers can add to make the iPhone unique. It's really that simple: Apple wants to differentiate the iPhone from other products and in order to that, it can take the chance of Adobe hijacking developers to their camp and calling the shots.

  • Flash is a freaking Crap. I cannot say enough how bad Flash is. Thanx guys for some many frustrating days and nights I spent because of you crappy product. I cannot wait to dump flash once this HTML5 or other options come about. Flash is crap and you Mofos in this video shouldn't show your face in public.

  • @lamrof

If you don't like it don't use it, but nobody wants to hear your problems first.

  • instance management. gpu acceleration .. lazy bastards ... time to start thinking about selling Apple stock

  • Jobs iPad is a real fail in terms of not being able to allow flash as an option for its users. If you dont want it let the user turn it off... if you have it on then you acknowledge your extra drain. Why remove it because the creators think you wont want it. This is Apple trying to rule your experience yet again.

  • @truthseekers666 No, I am for iPad to block this crap. You are willing to linger this crap around for many years when Adobe has no real clue how to improve it.

  • @truthseekers666 Apple didn't put it on there because the main audience they're targetting this device at are NOT geeks or all that technically inclined. It's aimed at the mass consumer market. It's not for geeks, it's for their mum and grandma. If your device only has 1 hour battery life because you're running Flash who will you blame? Flash or Apple? Most won't know what Flash is. Also Flash relies on things like hover states, which you don't get with touch.

  • Apple is starting to suck.

  • great talk, camera needs to be steady here very distracting.

  • Flash just sucks until there's an overhaul. Safari still doesn't work well with flash. Why give flash any bandwidth when it's really the iPad that's pulling interest? I'm tired of this piggyback.

  • Very well balanced and professional response. Apple taking a crap shoot on trying to control its little niche of the web, and apps to customers that do not know any better. Unfortunately with this prohibitive, controlling approach people will become more aware and less will buy the product. Apple stock.. short it and make some money by August.

  • What a load of crap!! Adobe is trying to blame all the problems with Flash on everybody else, and primarily the developers. Read between the lines, they're saying "it's not our fault, it's the developers". I don't even know how many times I've gone to a web site with some Flash video and it's pegged my CPU at 100%. Flash is horribly inefficient.

  • Great technical response from Adobe on today's events from Apple

  • mac cant handle flash simple as, and Ipad is no exception. Apple will get sued due to false marketing.

  • @mifster83 mac computers can handle flash, only the iPad/iPhone/iTouch can't run flash

  • @andreiamenta: wrong? Why? Just one example: Have you measured Adobe Flash Player's CPU usage while playing YouTube videos? Have you compared it to another player (like Media Player Classic, GOM Player, MPlayer, etc.) using the same content (by downloading the video via KeepVid, Clipnabber or mining from the cache)?

Yes, if you mean the result it's really really wrong (for Adobe): consumes almost three times as much CPU than other apps.

  • You adobe guys are full of shit. The problem UNIQUE to flash is that its not efficient and its buggy as hell. FLASH is by design, very bad. Don't you know your history? Flash was designed to be the next step up from animated GIFs... You nailed together later actionscript after some creative flash developers came up with the idea. You make the worst products for the apple platform. Flash is a horrible platform in terms of stability. Flash contaminates the web and its idea of an OPENNESS.

  • hehe... Anub'arak...

  • he looks dirty

  • idiot.

  • @beeqool exactly what i thought of

  • OSX is not the only one affected by flash, it also runs bacdly on Linux...

  • anyone notice how he didn't really give answers to solving these problems. Flash is the #1 cause for safari crashing on the mac. Flash eats nearly 1/2 my Dual Core CPU. My battery life on my laptop drops significantly when viewing flash. Not sure what happened to Adobe. Over the last 10 years, they slowly turned into the new Norton. I have been using their software since Photoshop 2. The current suite of software, while rich, is almost too big to maintain optimally now it seems.

  • flash is shit on os x. it crashes my browsers all the time(thankfully you can run html5 instead of flash for youtube) windows mobile isn't going to support flash either. Have fun dying flash

  • Well, the fat guy on the left is just like all Adobe apps: eats a lot more than necessary so runs much slower than others :D

  • @sayooze lol :)) wrong but funny

  • Anything i've used by adobe seems to be bloated and slow. Does anyone use Adobe reader anymore with the availablity of Foxit.??

  • why was the bald guy even there? bodyguard?

  • @heyuazzhoe this is not the full video .. he speaks about air and how it is coming to mobile. . chk out the full video .

  • I agree that Adobe should have the option to develop a version of Flash specifically for the apple mobile platform.

Desktop Flash is much too buggy and resource intensive.

Thanks Robert fof sharing this interview with us.

  • Flash and Silverlight are not HTML 5 or 6 at all!

Fullscreen, native 3D, enhanced communication (socket, Flash browser instances to AIR ...), disk access, compiled sources etc ....

So lot of features! I am not sure there will be the same in HTML in a few years, isnit ??

  • 8:36

  • Anup is one bright guy. He's somebody who knows tech from many points of view, knows how to speak, knows real answers and knows how to be diplomatic. Wow.

  • Knowing this you start to make creative workarounds like only load them once and reuse them. But even then, these modules can leak memory easily and cause systems to crash.

I think Steve reason not to accept Flash on the iPhone / iPad is understandable but I also think that they should visit each other for a coffee, discuss the problems and get on with it. Adobe has to fix and react, Apple must be open for them.

  • I'm a developer of digital signage software using Flex /Flash technologies, and although the development environment is pretty ok, Flash is still buggy and crashes now and then.

The problems mainly consist of bad memory management. When you load swf movies (digital signage modules) and unload them, the memory is not always disposed correctly.

  • @wiibart when you dont know how to manage memory , you should stick to AS2 which has auto garbage collection. Yes, it's buggy but there is solution to each problem...Personally I dont find any problem using it. Yes adobe and apple should talk to each other regarding improvements. But how many people use mac and how many pc? 10:90 ratio- right?

  • @concretesecreat Adobe and Apple HAVE been talking about this for years. For years Apple have been telling Adobe the majority of browser crashes in OSX were down to Flash and gave them the crash reports. They've been suggesting to them for years that they need to run things on GPU rather than purely on CPU (which 10.1 BETA is only just now doing). The iPhone OS runs all UI elements on GPU which is why it's so smooth to use and why the battery life is as long as it is (for what it does it's good)

  • Here's my $0.02. Jobs wants HTML5 because he believes that it is the future. The longer that Flash is the big dog on campus then the longer it will take for HTML5 to be adopted. Jobs is using the popularity of Apple's iFamily products to raise awareness of the capabilities of HTML5.

  • When will people realise you can't really compare Flash with HTML5. It's like suggesting that hats should universally replace umbrellas. They overlap in some areas (eg video, ui eye candy) but they specialise in completely different areas. As a flash dev, I'd be completely happy to never see another flash banner or flash menu, but I wouldn't want to be doing full blown application development, complex animation or games in html/javascript. This argument is really ridiculous.

  • I completely agree that comparing Flash to what HTML5 currently offers is ridiculous, but HTML5 lays the foundation for solutions when the browse is the primary rendering engine. Eliminating the need for an external plug-in eliminates contention for resources yielding better control over the user experience.

The best of both worlds would be to use a development environment such as the one for Flash to do the heavy lifting then have it produce code that would execute in the browser natively.

  • @secoif If you are a flash developer you should be ashamed of yourself. You put out a product that sucks ass. I am ready to avoid flash like the plague if given the chance.

  • @secoif Anything Flash can do - HTML5/JS/SVG can do better - plus you're not restricted to a proprietary platform.

  • @torment3d - Try to find a developer who would call it worth the effort to rewrite the simplest flash app/game in html5/ajax.

Sure these are great standards n they can do great things natively in the browser, but they are nowhere near what flash is capable of.
