  • This is lovely. I WILL play one someday.

  • absolutely beautiful o.o

  • 17 people don't know good music

  • hot beautiful ;(

  • Mark, your sound healed me a lot, thank you! <3

  • @megsingingmeow An extremely interesting comment! - After having listened to Pachelbel's Canon in I don't know how many different versions I came to the definite conclusion that yes, Music does indeed heal, like no other medicine. IF the world really LISTENED, War itself would stop dead in its tracks! Check out the Yoga of Sound as taught at the Sant Mat, Radha Soami Colony in Beas in the Punjab, India. - That seems to explain everything! I'd LOVE to hear Mark play the Pachelbel Canon! SUBLIME!!

  • Sounds lovely

  • How Many strings does this harp have?

  • @henryfan91 45 strings. Rosewood back & cedar top, I have two of these harps close to finished, selling as a kit for anyone who is competent at woodworking, & wants a cheap version of this harp. Only requires assembly & fitting of soundboard, & then fitting the already assembled neck & post to the soundbox. Then fitting hardware, details & finishing.

  • @mdharp How much do you sell the kit for?

  • @mdharp how much would you sell the kit for and how would I go about purchasing one if I was interested?

  • So beautiful!

  • what a beautiful sound (:

  • really nice music. i like it ;)

  • Stuff like this is the only reason why I have any hope for humanity.

  • Realmente hermoso, no me canso de oir tan melodiosa musica, quiero estudiar musica y definitivamente quiero aprender a tocar este maravilloso instrumento; es increible la belleza de esta musica

  • I love these! I really wish they were commercially available, cos' I'd buy them, for sure!

  • @skingaz

Thanks skingaz. I design my harps & make them myself.

Get in touch if you are serious about buying one.

  • please!! what arre the names of the pieces you've performed? specially the last one! it's beautiful!! :D

    Thanks !

  • Életteli, átszellemült, gyönyörű! Köszönjük!

  • @Escillar

    köszönöm

  • Oh, wow, I thought you would say something like 3-4 years, but that's great!

Thsnk you so much for your reply!

  • How many years did it take you to learn to play the harp?

I've wanted one my whole life, and I'm looking to buy a pixie harp for starters, then for a floor harp, I'd like to get an Alyssa harp (my name, too, haha)

Could you please write a reply, for how long you would think it would take a general person to play decently, with time devoted each and everyday to practise?

  • @alyvil13 Lot of questions. I have been working as a muso for about 25 yrs, so the harp was quite quick for me to learn. Like most instruments, its all up to the individual how quick it happens, but the harp is probably the most forgiving instrument you could start with, & from the very start it sounds great. You don't have to wait to hear nice sounds. Most of my students are playing arpeggios in the first lesson, & usually have their first piece in a few weeks if they work at it. Good luck.

  • Very fine playing.

  • wow absolutely amazing!

  • im learning how to play this instrument. cant wait!!

  • Thank you for sharing, I love the harp. Wow and you made this too, that is amazing. Such a gift! ~ Many Blessings to you!

  • I feel like I'm in the Shire, smoking and chilling with Gandalf while the hobbits are breakdancing.

  • Hi Mark. Love the O'ud Daybreak clip and basking with a Harp, must have been a crowd stopper !

  • très très beau

  • Unbelievable nice playing! Congrats :-) I was trying to figure out the design of the harp. My idea is that the design supports an extened soundboard? There arent any more strings down the curvature, wich would be weird, but the soundboard does continue, does this help with sound projection and volume? Fantastic harp though. All the best! Btw I love cedar

  • @heliopijpe

Thanks for your kind comments. This design would support the extended soundboard as seen on pedal harps, but I haven't found it necessary to produce more bass. The harps are (I think), quite well balanced in my designs, both in tone, volume & string depression weight over the 6.5 octave range.

It is possible that extended s'boards are an attempt to try & regain some of the compromises that are made in pedal harp design.

Cedar works well enough, but I still look for improvements.

  • Dude totally looks like Winslow from "Phantom of the Paradise".

  • What is Harp model ? He is fabulous *__*

  • @TristeNeige

The harp model is my own design & construction - 45 strings celtic harp, made from Australian scented rosewood & cedar.

  • @mdharp Okay :) Me played i 38 string camac location ... lol . I play since 6 months ago and I esepere to have your level one day:D! Greeting of France!

  • I really like the harp and I'm learning piano right now. I don't think I'll get the opportunity to learn harp for a long time if I ever will, but how much does knowing piano help? If only for just general dexterity and music theory

  • Piano helps a lot. My wife made the transition with about a year of harp lessons. Her harp playing is slower than her piano playing, but there are lots of beautiful slow pieces for harp.

  • So so beautiful! I love the celtic harp and i'm glad to have one too, really inspiring :)

  • I really love how you play harp. My heart is somehow warmed by your music. I have but one question: Is it hard to learn and play the harp? Thank you for showing your talent to inspire everyone. God bless you.

  • Thanks Mirokii4. I found the harp easier than most instruments, but I had already learnt a few previously. Best advice I can give is if you love what you are doing, you won't count the cost.

  • iam thinking to buy your harp. it is beautiful and i wonder if this harp also suitable for small kid ?

  • Thanks. I have two harps for sale. One is similar to this for experienced musician, & the other is smaller suitable for kids & beginners.

  • what's the name of your harp? what it is called? (no, not celtic...)

  • Well, it is a celtic harp design. I have no name for it apart from that.

  • OMG is that a double strung harp? You play it so wonderfully. Amazing

  • No, sorry its not double strung.

    Thanks for your kind comments.

  • omg that's amazing beautiful

  • the naked and vertical piano! Harp.

  • Such a Heavenly, sweet sound... harp has long been one of my favorite instruments. So relaxing and pure!

  • hello

can anyone tell me if the 2nd song had a name?

  • OMG that harps even bigger than the harp i saw in the other vid i like small traditional harps they dont sound as epic as big harps tho

  • Truly beautiful. What a talent and such a gorgeous piece.

  • Hi oppieoops.

First, catch your harp !! Then tame it... but seriously, I have some harps available to buy at the moment, from a small lap harp kit up to a 2nd hand 41 string levered celtic harp, & a beautiful new 34 string levered celtic harp. Send a message for pics & prices.

  • Thanks for posting. Loved the music. Someday I will buy a harp and take lessons. Any advise on how a complete beginner can start?

  • beautiful music!!

    God bless you!!

  • Just beautiful!

  • I really want to begin playing the harp, but I don't know where to begin. I don't know what kind to buy, and i can't find a teacher because I live in such an isolated area...sigh, I really wish I could.

  • You could buy a harp from me. I have a few available, from a 23 string lap harp kit, 27 string harps, & a new 34 string harp just finished. I can teach via webcam on Skype.

    Music supplied in pdf format.

Send me a message for more info.

  • magic!

  • I play celtic harp too. can you send me the notes for this song? please. greets Ira

  • how much long time you take for learn the basic?

  • makes me full of joy

  • wonderful

  • Is that a wire strung harp? I am shopping for my first harp, and needing to decide between wire and nylon. Will be playing in therapy situations, eventually teaching (I currently teach 4 other instruments).

  • Hi KelpieWH.

This is a nylon strung harp. Most musicians would not go for a wire strung harp because of the problems with note sustain.

Nylon (or gut if you can persevere with it) has a much warmer sound in general, allows access to much more repertoire, & is far more convenient to work with if schedules are involved.

I have a 34 string celtic harp almost finished here at the moment if you're interested. You could save a lot with exchange rates US$ > AUS$.

  • Dude, that kicks so much ass. The harp is so like... *BAM* *WOW*!!!

  • can you tell me where i can get the music for these pieces, as i like the whole playlist! want to learn them now

  • I publish my own arrangements professionally, & provide them in pdf via email.

Cost is $20- for these 3 pieces in video, via Paypal.

  • i play harp too! :)

    i like irish slip jigs.

    hee!hee!

  • i want to take up the harp but i want to ask if it is difficult for one to learn. at least the basic

  • Hi. Harp is relatively easy at a basic level. Similar to piano, but you need to learn to pluck strings. I can provide beginner lessons via Skype > webcam.

  • hypnotizing 8]

  • fantastic!!!

  • GREAT

  • 5 star and more !!!!!!!

  • That's absolutely amazing.

this music could be my life,

    its so beautiful.

    wooow.

  • great technique..TY for sharing!!

  • amazing! so soothing...

  • dam .. i realy love the sound of the harp , you played it very very good.

i can listen to this all day long!

  • Super very good

  • love celltic harp your good

  • Sounds great... i just imagine how much work it gotta take to string a harp:) doesnt it take long time?

  • amazing.

  • beautiful. for some reason the sound of the harp calms me down, in contrast to all other instruments. now i have the sudden urge to buy a celtic harp and learn how to play it. any suggestions?

  • Hi jhmathwizar. Thanks for your comments.

I am currently making two celtic harps of 34 strings with semitone levers on B flat, F & C sharps. The first one is for a student of mine. The shape is square soundbox.

The available harp is made of very rare Australian Scented Rosewood, with solid cedar soundboard. Price would be AUS$5,000-, plus packing & shipping. Check out the exchange rates to see if it is possible for you. I am looking into providing online tuition in the future, if possible.

  • can you tell me how did you learned? because i like to learn diff. kinds of styles of harp. :)

  • Hi louiese. I am mostly self taught, but had been performing on lutes & guitar for many years before the harp. I worked out some logical fingering for chords & scales, as you would for a piano or guitar etc, & listened to good harpists whenever possible.

Hope that helps ! Good luck !

  • So beautiful.

  • Wonderfully done! Bravo!

  • I love celtic, I love harps. Together they're just... :) Very enchanting.

  • beautifully done!

  • perhaps its just my stringent training in Classical Harp.... but despite absolutely beautiful playing... you really need to learn better and more proper fingering technique! start by dropping finger number five from your playing habit...

  • I have never used what would normally be called the "fourth" finger (ie; little finger). I only use this finger in performing flamenco guitar "rasguedo". I'm sorry to find that your love of music has been distorted by your formal education. Most agree that the performance of music is more important than dragging us all down with academic arguments over small, & in this case, seemingly inaccurate details !

Otherwise, thank you for your compliment on my performance.

  • I agree with u there man. Who really cares if using your pinky is "not proper". If anything it makes you a more versatile player. Whether ur playing with ur pinky or playing with ur teeth at the end of the day your there to make music!

Excellent playing btw :) Harps are awesome!

  • Thanks bongobear43.

Youtube would be a much nicer place for creative people without "educated experts" producing nothing of their own, making inaccurate observations, & then using all this assumed expertise to drag us all down.

I'm starting to think an "education" in the arts is about as socially constructive as random violent crime.

  • I love your description - quite right! And then there are the people who leave just 3 stars for a fantastic performance and don't bother to say why not more. Pearls before swine, I call it!

  • I´M from Sicily but I think I have celtic blood.

    Dia Guit Mark

    thank you

  • Dia Duit actually hehe

  • so pretty! I love the whole Celtic culture!

  • This makes me think of a green medow on a warm sunny day with a light breeze.

  • I love the harp. And you play it so well.

  • good work, im a male who wanted to learn harp but they didnt offer it, good instrument. wanted to be able to play with peaceful serenity as a harpist to go with my loud perspective as a percussionist. anyhow, nice work! harp interests me so much...

  • beautiful!!

  • I like that, great / j'aime ça, super

  • This is beautiful. Does he have any recordings available?

  • Thanks Autumn1231

    CD's are available on CDBaby.

Search for "Celtic Harp by Mark Davies", or

    "A Buskers Alms".

    ITunes downloads also available.

Go to my youtube page & click on links at bottom of text.

  • I cannot heard all the video.. so, I am a little desapointed.. but that I heart is beautiful! ( I play harp too ). Bye

  • What a tallent!

  • That is amaziing!

  • My last name is Harper (Irish of course!) I find it awesome to see that the heritage that my family did back things still lives strong today. Thank you for playing such wonderful pieces :)

  • I love your last name very much!!

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • VAAAAAH!!! Cool!

  • Merci ! New compositions coming for celtic harp quintet, & trio (flute harp & cello).

  • Very nice - I know I've commented on your videos before but I wanted to say how much I loved the pieces on this selection, particularly Si Bheag, Si Mhor, which is a lovely arrangement. You really make it flow - it sounds so "right" the way you perform it.

  • Thanks for the thumbs up, Mark. I'm working on some new music for celtic harp, Flute & Cello, & a small sonata for students to practice with. Hopefully I'll be able to post a slideshow with the new music soon.

  • Ive been wanting to learn how to play harp since im a child. But theyre really expensive and I dont have any teacher near home. Your playing sounds really great ^^ Do you make harps for sale? Just wondering the price ^^

    Keep posting!

  • Thanks "broknsaint".

I do make harps for sale, but they are around $9,000- AUS$ for the 45 string (6.3 octave) you see in this clip. Its over $1500- materials, & about 300 hours to complete.

I also teach in Sydney, & arrange / compose for trios up to quintets, for celtic harp, cello, flute, oboe, violin, viola etc.

Hope you find a teacher soon & have a go !!

  • Thanks for the info and thanks for replying ^.^.

Maybe someday I'll buy one of your wonderful works :]

  • y are harps so expensive -_-. i wanna own one

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Most beautiful 3:48 of my life

  • Ahh....This is great! And I'm not just saying that because it has "Celtic" in it's name...;) Nice playing!

  • Absolutely great...

  • now even more than before i wanna get a harp and play like you!

  • Cheers. If you do get a harp, get back to me for a new sonata I'm writing for harp & wind quintet. Its to practice basic harp techniques with, & should include a CD recording to play along with.

  • This piece made my day! The essence of this is so beautiful and innocent. Many thanks for sharing it.

May you be able to share your beautiful talent for many many years to come.

Can a musical novice like me learn to play harp at any age if I put my heart in it?

    best wishes

  • Thanks Ronnie !

Yes, no real problems for playing folk music.

Don't hold back if you love it that much.

  • Trés beau. J'adore la harpe.

  • Oui. Je l'adore. La harpe est belle. C'est trés intéressant, mais je parle Anglais. Je ne parle pas Français bien.

I love the harp. It is a great instrument, and when I have time, I hope to learn to play it.

  • i love it you are very talented

  • I had to make my own harps, as they're too expensive for me to buy a good one.

Sorry, but I don't know much about retail prices for concert harps.

  • simply heavenly

  • Lights White candle for your persistance & your talent

  • ooh i have always wanted to learn to play the harp:-) I learn all my instruments by ear, but i have never got the chance to get a harp, or even touch one...you play so beautifully:-) is it hard to learn to play?

  • Thanks "coco". Its a little harder than a piano as you need to learn how to pluck strings, & how to be sensitive to strings & their tensions, but is quite similar to piano in many other ways.

Free first lesson if you move to Sydney.

  • Great work, thanks for sharing!

  • Recenty I have falen in love with the harp. I can't stop istening to this vidio. I plan to learn (best 14th birthday present ever)and add it to my list of musical instruments (flute, fife, saxaphone (alto & bari) and piano). Thanks for being an insperation to me!

  • Thanks CutiePi. Good luck with your harp playing, & let us know when you post any clips here or elsewhere.

  • So amazing nice job

  • cook guzel I WILL TALK ABOUT THIS WITH MY TURKISHS FRIENDS

TESEKKURLER SAY MEAN THANK YOU IN ENGLISH

  • What a joy to hear such a melody. Thank you very much and god bless.

  • Thanks Gumki. You're very kind.

  • I like your way of playing and you harp. It's the first time I see a harp like that...

  • Great stuff! I've had the CD for a while, but to actually watch the playing gives me a whole other perspective. What a great instrument, the diversity in sound is very nice. I've been playing all sorts of instruments for years and years, but harp is one I just have to really just sit back and admire. Great work, very emotional.

  • Thanks for your kind comment, & your support in buying the CD. Very encouraging !

  • That's fantastic. I'm thinking of starting the harp once I have time. Do you think it'll be easier to pick up if i have previous musical experience with a stringed instrument (violin?)
