  • @b5ist weight does matter because if u weigh 300 lbs, ur pulling up around 300 lbs everytime. So it does take a good amount of strength to pull that much weight up multiple times. after a while you become consistent and get used to bodyweight exercises so you can do alot, but that goes with any exercise

A 300 pound guy has more weight but also more muscle so it doesnt make the excersise and more difficult bcz of it. As long as you work those muscle groups a 100 pound guy and 300 pound guy are even. No advantages.

  • @b5ist My point is; if you can pull up 300 lbs you are "Stronger" then a guy who can only pullup "100 "lbs". The more weight you can and do move; the stronger you are. There maybe no advantage in who can do the "highest amount of reps" but then it becomes an endurance exercise not a strength one.

If u weigh more, you should naturally be able to lift more because MUSCLES GROW IN PROPORTION TO WEIGHT. And that wouldnt be an endurance excersise until the last reps where it is completely the will power to keep going. It would still be a strength contest requiring the same amount on proportionate strength. If you still dont get it then nevermind ask some1 else to explain.

  • @b5ist I think you're touching on "relative strength" @smoovemillions is talking about "absolute strength" A guy that pulls a max deadlift of 600 lbs @ a bodyweight of 16 5lbs would be relatively stronger than a guy pulling the same amount @ a bodyweight of 300 lbs. But if the 300 lbs guy max's out at 950 lbs on deadlift then it makes him "absolutely stronger."

Thats like saying a 200 pound person in the same physical condition as a 100 pound person shouldn't b able to lift more. More weight is more muscle mass and using that as an excuse for less pullups is exactly that, an excuse.

  • You can't have somebody twice as heavy be in the same performance range (strength ratio related) as his smaller twin.

    Two people of different size trained with the same goal to the max. perfomance are going to have different results. Both of them are going to do more pullups but the smaller guy will have a better strength to weight ratio and therefore more pullups :P

  • I weight 150 and can do pull ups with a 45 lb plate attach to my waist. To get better at doing pull ups you just have to practice.

Im in the Army so Push ups have been a big part of my life for the past 11 years. Pull ups with different hand positions has help me build the back I got now. They got guys who call themselves serious athletes and cant do a damn pull up...lmao Like I said Im bout 265 lbs and I feel like shit when I cant do at least 25 reps of clean pull ups. As far as pullups goes, the "your lighter" excuse works only one way, if the heaver guy has most of that weight in his legs (is disproportionate), I have that problem, but for everybody else, it's just a bunch of pussies who train like pussies, and will always be pussies

I'm a sumo wrestler. i can bench over 500lbs. and I can do 20 pull-ups-i currently weigh 309lbs.- alot of big muscle guys think that if they sumo wrestlr they can just power someone out. that's not the caes because the legs are the most important physical attribute of your arsenal. what happens when a heavy bencher can't muscle out the opponent, then endurance, technique, and heart comes into play. so endurance is vital cont.

  • @karite36 because if you don't have the endurance-muscular and cardio- you will lose in a match or a fight period. i overheard a san quientin correctional officer say that they stopped letting inmates lift weights, but the inmates focused on their endurance and he said now alot of the inmates can't be taken out with just using strength because the inmates will wear you out with all the endurance they built up. so in essence, endurance can make you stronger. it just depends on the situation.

  • @tyrek12345 OK, OK. But you only really need a special kind of endurance, anaerobic endurance, that caps at about 10min cardio (max intensity) and about 30is reps a set with 30 seconds in between. Inmates are smarter than you think, I wouldn't be surprised if they knew that!

If you imagine the difficulty of resistance training, the easiest is with machines... cable, pulleys, rails and all those kinda guides, then comes free weights. Barbells, dumbells etc. THEN comes the bodyweight ones. The increase in difficulty comes from the fact that you're having to bear more of the stability in the movement with your own smaller, supporting muscles. Those supportive muscles are not developed enough in people you mentioned...

  • @6garbageman9 It's all about what you train for, if you're a powerlifter, you do squats, bench, and deadlifts, not pullups. If your a bodybuilder, and you just want to be big and prance around in a spedo. I'm a powerlifter, but have recently started to incorperate pullups etc into my workout, because it's pretty pitiful to be 240lb, pull 500x4 on a deadlift, and only do 8 pullups. by the way, unless that guy is 7ft tall, he's not 325, maybe if he's like 6'5 he's 270lb

  • @6garbageman9 because they have developed their fast twitch muscle fibers but pay no attention to their slow twitch muscles which have to do with endurance. Fast twitch muscles fibers are easier to develop. If developed, a person can lift a lot of weight and usually do it with explosive speed which looks impressive but how long can one do it is a different story. If you ever see someone that can lift a lot of weight and rep at very high intervals chances are they mix calisthenics with weights.

  • @6garbageman9 Two different types of strength. I weigh like 255 lbs and I will tell you, allot of it is mental and what you are used to also. Some guys just lift and never do any body weight exercises and that's a big part of it too. If a person starts working out and doing sports and incorporates many different things in their workout, they can be really strong in all areas. Hope that helps
