  • filthy nigger town

  • Just to let people know, the BNP wll be standing in the city for this May's election,so remember to vote.

  • you help old ladies cross the road even if she has got a face like a toad!

  • Fair enough, but in Toxteth in the eighties, working class people of all races joined together to fight oppression. It was the conservative, right wing government that tried to paint it as a "race riot" in order to divide working class people against one another. It's happening today. If oppressed people don't stand together, regardless of skin colour THEY will always WIN.

  • Oppression, my arse. I was behind a shield in toxteth and the law abiding residents supported the police 100%.

Everyone knew that the riots were orchestrated by drugs dealers who didnt like the police getting in their way. This fact was sadly overlooked by the appeasing Scarman report

  • Get an education, you reactionary, racist prick!

Working class should stick together, irrespective of race, religion, or any other divisions clowns like you are fond of clinging to. I suspect you're just another know nothing twenty-something whose mind has been poisoned by the divisive, race hate fuelled rantings of the worst that black America has to offer........"niggazzz".....? Grow up, you self oppressed clown! Try reading the writings of Paul Robeson for a change...

  • @RedBryn i ate black skin

and why are u still calling yourself 'nigger'

you use the term that they used to degrade us

    as if its something good

  • Police brutality .... Afro's and skinheads fighting ...Used to get skalped if u walked on a white esate ..No jobs for black people and racism ... The money theyw ere promised was given to the councill but strangley it never arrived in toxteth as dipicted in sheldon rice's rap search toxteth riots and 1982 and it has it all on there

  • That is certainly not the case today only areas like Toxteth get the money unfairly

  • What started this riot ?

  • Black people who had trouble getting jobs like the rest of the people in the city surrounding towns decided they could riot and get what they wanted. And still to this day they continue to have this mentality

  • r.i.p. ian tomlinson.

    Joe strummer/Yhe Clash

  • listen to the restarts man

  • There were also riots in other parts of the city and numerous other towns and cities during that time that just went unreported.

There were also white people involved in the riots that took place in Liverpool, London and Manchester so not sure what the "If your white" comment was all about.

  • You wrote: "the lead singer of Conflic was a middle class kid from a public school. What does he know..."

Is it wrong for men to fight for women's rights or white people for racial equality or middle class kids to fight the state?

    Political movements contain:

    1) Those obsessed with personality, status, tribal rules, gossip and (crucially) their place in the inevitable bloody pecking order

    2) People who actually believe in something & want to achieve change

    Can we discuss ideas instead?

  • The singer is not middle class, he comes from a working class background, hios father was a caretaker in a school ( hardly middle class job is it?) I shouls know, I've been in the band with him for 22 years!!

  • No War but the Class war comrades.Workers of all lands unite.

  • You can still be arrested for smoking weed and what does Conflict and a bunch of so called 'anarchists' with daft haircuts have to do with the Toxteth riots?

Cut and paste a riot over their own track to make it look like they played some part in it.

  • Re: 7jem331 - Nowt, but singing about stuff is allowed.

Early '80s riots had some common elements. I added the Toxteth bit because I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Please post/recommend better vids!

The police provoked and inflamed the Toxteth riots "The Ungovernable Force" is a valid response to that type of policing.

On cannabis you're right. But it suits the authorities for L8 to smell more of weed than revolution, which is why the police are so relaxed.

  • Correct me if I am wrong but the lead singer of Conflic was a middle class kid from a public school. What exactly does he know about/have in common with the people of Toxteth or for that matter even have a clue why the riots started?

"Smell of weed more that revolution" Please!

I would remommend to you actually finding out the reasons behind the riots.

  • The Toxteth riots of July 1981 were a civil disturbance in inner-city Liverpool, which arose in part from long-standing tensions between the local police and the black community.

The Merseyside police force had, at the time, a poor reputation for stopping and searching young black men in the area, under the infamous "sus" laws, and the heavy-handed arrest of Leroy Alphonse Cooper on Friday 3 July, watched by an angry crowd, led to a disturbance in which three policemen were injured.

  • The riots, like those around the same time in Brixton, Handsworth, and those in 1980 in Bristol, were generally seen as "race riots", but there are many reports of similarly frustrated white youths traveling in from other areas of Liverpool to fight alongside Toxteth residents against the police.

Blaming "race problems" allowed many people - including then Merseyside Chief Constable Kenneth Oxford (see 01:42-01:55) in - to ignore the possibility of broader social origins for the violence.

  • The subsequent Scarman Report (though primarily directed at the Brixton Riot of 1981) said that the riots represented the result of social problems such as poverty and deprivation. (Wikipedia)

L8 smells more of weed than revolution. The last thing local govt wants is to upset the status quo. Cf. typical prison.

Finally, I know sod all about Conflict but:

Gender equality - men shut up!

Racial equality - whites shut up!

Wealth redistribution - middle class twat stfup!

    - 'cos it's hypocrisy. Or?

  • mabey he's self educated in multiple cultures, or perhaps reads international news.

    colin is the boss.

  • Toxteth riots - minor scuffle compared to the Trumpton riots!

  • Those were the days...

Now Liverpool's the Capital of Culture - problem solved!!!

  • Good video & great songs!!!

  • This is more relevant today than ever.

Thing are worse since Thatcher & Reagan, with even more divisions & poverty. Of course we have a new "enemy" to replace the IRA and justify oppressive & intrusive policing.

The difference is everyone's allowed to smoke weed now without risk of arrest. Smell it everywhere in Liverpool. It's a good way to keep everyone quiet as they quietly install CCTV everywhere, make us have ID cards & track every detail of our lives.

    Fight for freedom!

  • Check out old geezer at 02.53 walking down the street cool as f-ck!

    Reckon he was the organiser?

  • Yeah - he probably fought in WW2 & was naffed off about the fascists running the UK, wondering what on earth he risked his life for, so he taught his grandkids how to take direct action. Good man.

  • Or he is senile and doesn realize what the fuck is going on.

  • I told my grandad what you said and his reply was:

"Oi, NickNack or whatever your name is - your a right cheeky young pup! Come here and I'll give y'a thick ear, ya little blighter! Buggers don't know ya born these days! Well, ya not too old to be given a good hidin! I'm spittin feathers here - waitin fo'me pint of Cains! Turn a nun to drink, ya would!"

  • Got it.

Unless that man in the video was your grandfather I don't know how what I said has to do with your grandad. I simply pointed out that the man in the video could be losing it.

  • And you're right - he is losing it - mainly because of growing economic inequality, police brutality, censorship, erosion of civil liberties, mental as well as environmental pollution and the fact that he's forced to pay for all this with his tax money!

  • Not to mention a phony war against a self-generated enemy in the middle of a different continent?

  • Classic! More!!!
