  • Archie's what China has portrayed white people as in film for years.

  • I'm as true blue as you, I'm against all the right things!.....lmao! RIP Carroll O'Connor!

  • God I love Archie Bunker

  • Some of you need to just shut the frick up and enjoy the show for what it is.. gawd.. pathetic little no life having morons!!!!

  • @ wzrdcr as a retired soldier of 22 years, you just made me regret defending an Americans right to free speech. Your words are foolish and full of ignorance. And Wizzbrain, God is ALL colors, NOT just White. Judgment will stand for those who use His name for hate. You can contemplate that when your sitting next to those who perverted the Muslim Faith and are still waiting for their Virgins.

  • Archie Bunker was such a great character--very three dimensional.

  • I have seen a ton of negativity toward the Archie Bunker character all of my life, but I think that Norman Lear accomplished something really amazing with Archie. In the first place, he was able to use comedy to show how silly bigotry is, but what I found most significant was that no matter how bigoted Bunker was he had a heart of gold, and progressively became more accepting as the series went on. If Archie Bunker can change, then anyone can. This was a wonderful show and I miss it!

  • @KLUNKET This show the Jefferson, and Sanford and Son was the funniest shit ever. To bad we can't have shows like this now

  • @5150pb - Your right... The Jeffersons never even really got to have an ending which is sad. I watched an interview one time where Sherman Helmsly the guy who played George said they just cancelled the show between seasons and the actors never got a chance to end the show properly. The same thing with Sanford, negotiations went sour and the show died without being given a proper ending. Damned studio execs!!!!

  • One of the best shows in the history of television -still poignant and funny today; the characters were real and multi-dimensional. I miss the original Archie Bunker series, Sanford and Son, Good Times, and later on Taxi. Best non-comedy was Hill Street Blues. Even slightly stupid but sweet/funny was Laverne & Shirley and earlier years of Happy Days. I miss the comedy of Mel Brooks and the original SNL cast -RIP to Bulushi and Radner. Where are the good writers and directors in the tv industry?

  • I love Archie bunker he is the best sees things for what they are. If more whites put god first AMeriica second we not be over run by spic,Muslims and niggers and worse fags and we be a strong free country still.

  • @wzrdrcr We are a strong country, you meat head. A majority of Americans love God and love the United States. It's racists like you that oversimplify everything and put all good Americans down. Decent people should stand up to "people" like you. You make me sick.

  • @wzrdrcr

I find it quite ironic that you praised Archie for finding fault with "niggers and fags" after watching a clip that dealt with him smacking down an organization that does just that! Maybe, you just did not want to accept the reality of the situation!

  • @wzrdrcr Not if your education fails you miserably. Good God, did you even pass the 5th grade typing like that?

  • @wzrdrcr Archie just said "us blacks" and yet you stand behind someone who just called himself black -- even though you clearly have hate for 'niggers'. I don't understand the racist mindset. Wouldn't you be on the side of the KKK? Not the guy who goes against the KKK? Boggles the fucking mind how illogical racists dimwits can be.

  • @leet0811 well put,I privily am the only commenter that WILL ADMIT I WAS IN THE KLAN,i say that ,to say this, I got into it as a kid,and I've herd TALK like this all my life as I was growing up,glad I GREW UP & OUT OF THAT COUNTER PRODUCTIVE shit, people ARE people ,you haven't right being racists in AMERICA COST IT WAS BUILT BY ALL RACES.!!!

  • Interesting fact. "Islamic terrorists murder more people every day than the Ku Klux Klan has in the last 50 years." Via thereligionofpeace com.

  • Boy, those er, "KKK" creeps ring about authentic as James Cameron's Titanic. Two actors emoting to no effect. I remember this episode and how Carrol played Archie Bunker so nuanced and believable here, while the others bounced around all hollow. "I want him to grow up normal.." Great line.

  • @shimatetsuo2019 Maybe 30% did. Lots of folks his age loved FDR & JFK.

  • Loved Arch. Reminded me of some of my family patriarchs. Lol.

  • "transflusion" LOL

  • Only Archie could get away with things like this.

  • I know this - I sing & dance better... ROFL!!!!

  • thats my argument theres more whites who feel like me and theres more blacks who would agree with me then just white people

  • @2142Fritz im white too

  • Well - reading the comments a little lower than immediately below, it seems as though there is white critiquing white for racism and ignorance. We're making progress - it's slow, but it is progress. Take the fear and ignorance and anger out of it and there is a recipe for learning and progress. Good.

  • I think Archie's bigotry was just based on his ignorance of others, while the fact that he had xenophobia, kept that in check. Most people of his generation (living through McCarthyism) thought his way.

  • Archie's prejudices of blacks, Jews and other minorities came from fear not hatred. Unlike his British counterpart Alf Garnett from the tv series TILL DEATH DO US PART which inspired Lear to create ALL IN THE FAMILY, Archie's prejudices contained no malice. I believed, Archie never hated a single in his life as far as race was concerned. He was prejudice of blacks but didn't hate them.

  • This was when real writing was part of sitcoms, not just set ups for jokes. Amazing stuff.

  • archie is the man

  • What's funny is I think Norman Lear wanted to play the show straight, that you just hate Archie and love Meathead. Thing is, Archie was a much richer character. Meathead actually came off as a douche. Even though Archie was a bigoted guy, he was a decent guy at heart, and a lot of folks could identify maybe not with his biases, but living in a socially turbulent world that was changing all around you.

  • @peterp21 I agree. Michael could come a bit naive at times. Archie although a bigot, was the smartest person in that house (except when he pissed off Edith)

  • @peterp21 Yep, Meathead was a phony whom you could not depend on to buy milk.

  • @peterp21 Very well put!

  • You can change his views. the thing about Archie Bunker is that he wants to change but he grew up in an environment that the only thing he knows is generalizations and bigotry. He does do the right thing most of the time he just doesnt say the right thing because he doesnt know how. Am I excusing that no, but he is an old timer, old generation white males say whats on their minds whether it be politically correct or not. I know my dad acts just like Archie Bunker.

  • @scienceatheism"he just doesnt say the right thing" You saying we should not say what is on our mind? Screw that. I'll say whatever I want, whenever I want and to whomever I want. It is called free speech. Pass the word on to your fellow thought cops.

  • @philmilson you cant yell fire in a movie theater lol

  • @scienceatheism my grandfather was the same way he would sit down and laugh at this show but he never saw himself in archie bunker but he acted just the same haha

  • Haha my dad knows he is a racist he just doesnt care. He put it to me like this, If he doesnt act on the racism and just says comments to get a reaction out of people then he isnt that bad of a racist and shouldnt be clumped into a group with the likes of Nazi's or the KKK. Its a good point. My dad says fucking niggers but the next minute he is shaking their hand smiling at them telling me how great of a man that guy is. I would be like wait... you just called him a nigger. haha.

  • @scienceatheism haha! i feel like your literally talking about my grandad he was the same way one time my moms sister was dating a black guy and thank god he never found out lol i bet your father wore the same thing every day? my grandfather did just like archie!!

  • EVERY GODDAMN DAY!!! He still wears the same shit everyday. I will ask him why doesnt he get new clothes he would look at me and say Why the fuck would I? Im perfectly comfortable in the shit Im in, if you dont like it you can eat dick faggot. That is word for word what he said. haha I love the grumpy bastard he has me laughing all the time, and he loves it when I cuss back at him and tell him to go fuck himself. He would congratulate me for having balls. haha

  • @scienceatheism Our dads are pretty much the same on this issue. I personally thing racists should be thrown out of the country, and into a nation that they're racist against. Ex: If you say the N word then you're thrown in Somalia, Chad, Uganda, etc.

  • So you want my dad to be thrown in a fucked up nation simply because his view on people differs from yours? He isnt inciting violence nor is he acting upon his discomfort of people being different from him.

  • @scienceatheism I never meant it in that fashion. I do think that something needs to be done to stamp out bigotry and racism. It's the year 2012 for God's sake. Isn't it pretty stupid and pathetic to hate someone by skin color or religion? I think the best way to do it is to date then eventually marry someone of the race they're against. That would piss him/her off royally (and they can't do a damn thing about it). I thought about doing it on several occasions.

  • So what if its 2012, do you think human nature will change during that time? Fear breads intolerance and hate. Thats what it is, fear. Once you remove fear from humanity then you can start believing racists would not exist anymore but fear will never go away so therefore you will always be have racists.

  • @scienceatheism and how sad is that? Not to sound religious here, but aren't we all "God's children" essentially? I fear this racist will boil over and we'll have a "war of the races".

  • @scienceatheism I know what exactly you mean. We're in the same boat.

  • "If KIng Kong was a catholic it would make a hell of a rosary." LOL!!

  • Theres a Klan in Queens? Wouldn't have guessed it

  • Burning a cross on someone's lawn is a biased crime. We just affirmed such crimes in October 2009 with the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crime Prevention Act.

Seriously, I think this episode proves that Archie Bunker was a racist only in opinion and would never resort to physical violence. In that case, he has the freedom on conscience to think what he wants in our society. He does not have the right to intimidate anyone else.

  • I laugh when I hear the word "bigotry". It seems so old fashioned, almost an archaic term.

Anyways, Archie's bigotry was funny when All in the Family was in its prime. Nobody was offended, they just shrugged it off and laughed at it.

BUT today's world is so goddamn uptight, super-ultra-sensitive and can't laugh at itself. Archie would never have survived in today's nasty world. Times have changed over the last 40 years and for the worst.

  • @cheeriosinabowl : It's changed for the worse? So women are independent, racism is not as bad as it used to be....Its worse? Maybe For people like you maybe who might be racist and sexist. It was funny back then because they were making fun of current issues that were blatant and wrong. Today's world shouldn't have this level of racism. No Archie would never have lasted today because by now people like him should have been eradicated. Back then his character was very common.

  • @LKat900

.... racism has always existed, does exist and always will. That's the way it is, like it or not. That sums it up in a nutshell.

  • Ugh, you guys and your debating via Youtube.

  • @controversyking Uh, that and the fact many of those right wing white males (whom most are short, middle aged and chubby, strange but it is what it is) hold signs with racist rhetoric on them.... uh, yeah, it certainly does make it seem like other right wing political agendas like nazis.

  • Most of it is fear, all hatred starts as fear.

Which Leads to the dark side...

  • A Democrat started the KKK and a Republican freed the slaves. Somehow along the lines, democrats got things mixed up. Democrats are the racist ones. They are the only ones who even talk about it. Facts don't lie.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE let's talk a bit more up to date... Republicans violated the constitution by introducing fascism in southern states, segregating and creating seperate laws and regulations for races... Democrats signed civil rights making the USA into a free democracy (which was only a little over 40 years ago)... plus Democrats went to the southern states and kicked republicans asses to ensure Freedom, the Constitution and Bill of Rights were upheld... Facts certainly dont lie ;)

  • @skershaw2000 Like the fact that there were more slaves in Conneticut than South Carolina when the War of Northern Aggression started. You don't have anything as far as facts go. Just tired liberal talking points, racist. Your next democrat KKK meeting is convening, hop to it now Junior.

    That's up to date.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE That is an outright lie, as Conneticut had prohibited slavery in 1766 and the only african americans there were FREE men. and the KKK is a right wing white supremist group, by their own admission.

How many times did the US Government and US Army have to kick southern ass? Civil War, Civil Rights and still today, Supreme Court has to force the nutjobs there to stop teaching creationism lies, etc. in public schools.

  • @skershaw2000 The only liar is you. A liberal nutjob with no facts. You need to re-visit history 101 and not the kind that is taught by all those liberal fag professors. You're just like the rest of your liberal friends....lying stupid racist.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE hmmmm.... wow, really? let's see your resources and facts? its fairly easy to corroborate well documented facts.

Be more emotional and whiney about it.... typical republican: short, balding, fat, middle aged men with small penises and cant get a woman or a decent paying job.... that's why you live in trailers.

you're beneath me like your family.

  • @skershaw2000 You must have went back to history 101. That explains all your anger. Don't worry for when you are ready to get a job just let me know. I can use a part time person.....can you use a hose and a brush? Heck, I'll even work with you so you can continue to receive the Section 8, welfare and food stamps you are accustomed to. But, you have to get a picture ID because I don't employ undocumented aliens. That's your new long term goal. Make finshing high school your short term goal.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE @LT1HILLINGHOE Cliche tactic from someone clearly beneath my intellectual and financial stature.

1.) you will never be in a position to offer anyone, let alone someone way above your tax bracket, a job

2.) you cant even manage to spell properly or emply proper grammar.

3.) you're oblivious to historical fact.

4.) You are way too emotional and bitter to be taken seriously. You're not worth my time round little man... guys like me pick on nerds like you.

    Im done with you

  • @skershaw2000 Take all of that anger you have over being wrong about history and channel it into a job. Remember, I can always use a part time person. But you have to look professional. In other words, no democrat looking garb is allowed. I can also offer you a mini health care policy at a 50/50 rate share. But you have to show me some initiative and not the same ol' liberal bs talking points. Set those goals and call me when you are ready to work.

    Next!!!!

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE you keep trying to live the cliche lie, although I exposed you, huh? Kid... let me know when you have your master's degree, have a very impressive resume from global media firms and can negotiate contracts in foreign languages. I net more a fiscal quarter than you gross annually.

I can tell by your simple minded drivel you are just another mediocre, low income, low iq fat, lazy, lonely man strugging paycheck to paycheck, buried in debt.

Im done wasting time on some tub like you

  • @skershaw2000 OK, you did expose me. Just in case you don't take advantage of my offer then someone else might....thank you. I knew you would come up with some BS about degrees and negotiating contracts. You better worry about your section 8 contract because your subsidy hits today, along with the rest of those gov't subsidies you receive. Remember, the housing authority requires that absolutely no drugs are allowed in your living unit....watch out. Let me know when you want a job, Junior.

  • @skershaw2000 Is this the real real one when you are really done with me? Your crack is clouding your mind. Listen, if you put as much emphasis on finding a job as u do on recreational drug, u would have the opportunity to reach in your pocket and pull out something beside lent. Just remember, the offer still stands about the part time position. But I don't expect to hear from you because you are a democrat and that means you are....well....a lazy racist. See ya' in the funny papers, Junior.

  • @skershaw2000 And let this be our little secret because your dad doesn't know about it. Your mom gets beneath me twice a week. That's the two times I have to strap on an 8 foot 2x4 to keep from falling in that fartbox of hers. I love how she hums when she blows me. She is a real talent in that area. It's amazing what a woman will do for an extra bottle of Wld Irish Rose.

See ya' in the funny papers, Junior.

    NEXT!!!!!

  • @skershaw2000 And remember that a Republican freed the slaves, a democrap started the KKK and Conneticut had more documented slaves than South Carolina did before the war of Northern Aggression, you racist with the large sack of stupid on his back.

    Boo & Yah.

  • @skershaw2000 For the love of God, be trolling. Ever heard of the Solid South? The Southern US were known that way between the end of the Civil War and the 1960s, because of how strong the Democratic Party was in the region. Check the voting record for the 1964 Civil Rights Act: more Democrats than Republicans voted nay. Robert Byrd, a Democrat, led a filibuster of the act.

  • @controversyking

I never called the Tea Party "racist".

Conversely if a group of angry, loud and aggressive Black people, or Hispanics protested in Washington and held rallies around the nation and forced the country to bend to their will how do you think the rest of the country will view them?

  • @controversyking I don't understand the "liberal" comment. I'm not an american, but I am dutch, and very, very liberal about most things (but conservative about a few topics as well). I think going out of your way putting people in a box with liberal/conservative etc is just as bad as regular discrimination. Maybe even worse, since you are assuming that, because a person says one thing, it is automatically decided what all their other choices and opinions are. Just my 2 cents there.

  • @michelrpg The type of people who believed in the liberal/conservative box did not like this show back in the day. It was a very popular show for years. The statistics proved that the liberal/conservative box people are a small percentage of our population. Back then, and even more now, it seems that the media tries to fuel the illusion that the liberal/conservative thinkers are the majority. Perhaps the extremes make the "Archies" of the world realize it's about work, family, and a good home.

  • @michelrpg I am American, but lived in Europe for some time and realize "liberal" means something completely different politically in most places of the world than it does in the USA... just remember you are dealing with an ignorant, arrogant American who thinks the entire world thinks, speaks and does things the way he does it, not realizing that most of Europe is far more advanced and higher standard/quality of living than in the USA... he's just American, he doesnt know any better

  • 1:23

The Tea Party makes Archie Bunker look like a liberal.

  • @gundamWWW The Tea Party make Dubbya look smart.

  • @PissedPlayinPimp must be on account of global warming ! lol

  • hahahhaha oh that was effin good !!!

  • those were the jewiest Klansmen i've ever seen.

  • The point of this show was to use humor via Bunker to reflect the mindset of much of the viewing audience, and their opinion on race, sex, marriage, and religion, which was a bit of right wing bigotry, and topics previously taboo on TV.

  • this show would be taken off the air after one episode in today's america because one quote would be taken out of context and plastered all over the media claiming the entire show and archie bunker was racist and hates every race that is not white.

you know it's sad but true.

  • @cubicleboy Are you kidding me? It wouldn't get past the pitch in the producer's office. Political correctness and multiculturalism/cultural relativism - along with embracing the pimp/thug/black culture - is slowly killing the soul of this country. Example: The irony of black popular culture embracing the enslavement of women (pandering/pimping) as something to be admired is extraordinary and should've been beaten down by those in a position to do so. How is it that Snoop Dog can show his face?

  • @cubicleboy

... you are correct. Also, All in the Family would never have even come close to being televized in today's society. Everything has to be polished and sanitized to suit the politically correct police state.

  • @cheeriosinabowl I don't know about you, but I'm getting sick and tired of "political correctness" and having to worry about "offending" other people. You don't like something Reverend Asshole, there are controls on your remote control to *gasp* turn the TV off, or even change the fucking channel (what a novel concept!)

What kind of sick-minded criminal moron invented the phrase "politically correct" anyway?

  • @champton321 I think I heard the term came from Stalin

  • @champton321 I'd like to ask you an honest question, and remember I'm young and just want to understand your opinion better - what's wrong about being careful to not to offend other people? Aren't we supposed to be kind to others and be helpful when we can be? My grandmother always said that you should treat other people the way you would want them to treat you and that nothing heals a frown better than a smile.

  • @TheTubePortal Well the thing is its gotten so bad that people can't say anything that could even be remotely interpreted as slightly offensive and if they do the media goes crazy and that person is seen as a bigot thats the problem, I'm not saying people should be able to yell racial slurs on TV but people in this country do need to lighten up a bit

  • @TheTubePortal Compare television nowadays to some of the classics, like All in the Family and Sanford & Son. You'll realize that many of the classics have an educational value that is non-existent in television nowadays because we have all been conditioned to cater to "special interest groups" and shit like that. Growing up as kids, many of us who watch these kind of shows knew not to act like the Archie Bunkers or the Fred Sanfords of the world, and we knew how to recognize them. You kids

  • Comment removed

  • @champton321 But two or three generations from now will look back on today as a great age too. Things move in cycles. Everybody thinks that their generation is better than the new ones. The only thing I can agree is realistic is that people aren't as friendly and polite anymore. But that isn't necessarily a change in character because the politeness of the past was mostly for show, in real life they were just as bad as today. I like old TV shows, but life moves on, times change, people grow.

  • @cubicleboy Just ask them about him saying the word "honkey." Would that make Bunker anti-White as well?

    Just food for thought. ;)

  • @cubicleboy thats not a bad thing

  • @cubicleboy very true

  • @cubicleboy True....but it's fine and dandy to say anything anti Southern or anti white even today.

  • @cubicleboy not if its on cable. lol.

  • @cubicleboy We know but they be the ones who are hating we're loving here. :)

  • My best Archie Bunker Episode!

  • "Archie's bigotry is based on his rough, working-class life experiences. Bunker is honest and forthright in his opinions, showing an openness to changing his views if an individual treated him right"- Sammy Davis Jr.

  • @tblackjacks1 Sammy Davis had a fine mind, when he wasn't high on coke having tantrums and shitting on airline seats...

  • @druidianfoundation - Scuse me - Did Sammy Davis Shit on an airline seat?

  • I didn't know Jews were in the KKK, maybe it was due to a shortage Anglo-Saxon males in Hollywood!

  • "I noticed I sing & dance better.." - lol!

  • Do unto others...

"I have a grandson, and if he sees a cross burning, he might get the wrong idea of what the cross really means." Very powerful. I guess there is redemption in every sinner.

    One of my favorite episodes.

  • "Well if King Kong was Catholic it'd make a hell of a rosary" - lmao awesome

  • its amazing how this show is still more real, edgier, humane and better written than anything on network tv almost 40 years later. Still funny and touching on so many levels to this day.

  • Archie's character will only go so far. Sammy Davis junior noticed this in one of the episodes.

  • For me, this sitcom stands as a sort of book-marker. When I watched it back in the day I wasn't able to see what they were doing .... but as I got older I see what the libs are about, and thus understand how they use the power of TV to shit on Conservatives.

  • That KKK guy with glasses is an obvious Jew.

  • @khattamshud you're an obvious idiot.

  • The problem in this country is not black people, or white people, or latino people, or Jewish people. The problem is criminal immigrants and the anti-americans who are in the White House right now. They all need to be removed from this country and forcibly.

  • @greatvaluepoop

In my opinion the problem is the rich, wealthy, corporate executives who have Washington in their pockets. they are bleeding the country, and doing anything to avoid putting in their fair share. they are only interested in lining their pockets with more greenbacks. poor getting poorer and rich getting richer. while the so-called middle class disintegrates.

  • that was byfar the best 4mins in the history of all TV

  • OMG! Archie is a Brotha from Anotha Motha! ROTFL! He said "Us Blacks" & "I sing & dance better"! Ha! He did't want his grandson Joey to get the "WRONG" idea about the Cross, & finally took a stand for the Good in life! I guess his Black Blood "Transfloo-shun" worked wonders! *LOL*!

  • "TRANSFLUSIONS" LOL

  • lol...he's right he didn't want his 2 year old grandson get the wrong idea about the crosses it was that jesus died for all of us and KKK burning them is a slap across the face to all christians!

  • Is it me or is this just one of the most funniest and most serious moments in TV history? Long live Archie Bunker even with his flaws! They make him who he is.

  • Archie didn't hate anyone. He was just repeating what he'd learned growing up. "I'd be the first one to tell you it's not your fault youze black." His prejudice was born out of how he was raised. But he wasn't a true racist who felt that someone should be persecuted or mistreated because of their race. He just genuinely thought the white race was superior and everyone should get along from there. He was wrong, but he wasn't malicious.

  • I am shocked this still goes on in 2011.........People are good and people are nuts...no matter what race!! Look at the tornado cases in many states.

  • They did a behinds the scenes episode on the making of "All in the Family" and one of the producers stated that some scene were not aired, because Carrol O connor had a fit with a few controversial scripts. I believe that Archie was not a bad guy, just a misguided one in being raised by his parents.

  • Archie was ignorant at times, but deep down he really was a good person. This proves it.

  • what is the name of this episode.

  • I say we all relax, sit down, and smoke a jay.

  • @indiegent - I saw your comment before I watched the clip, and since I hadn't seen it in at least 15 years, I couldn't figure out what you were talking about. But then they did the far away shot of Archie, and immediately I knew what he was going to say. Classic. :)

  • It's actually, "Feets don't fail me now".

  • I like how he dealt with the situation in a way true to the "Archie" character.

  • Proves that Archie wasn't 100% Bigot/Racist (whatever you call him)

  • "Ain't nothing with me. I notice I sing and dance better." Ahahahahahahah.

  • ROFL!! omG this is amazing! :D

  • if king kong was a catholic this would make a hell of a roserie. LOL

but seriously. stop making all whites out to be racist.

    i'm tired of it.

  • Why is Archie trying to tell these clowns what the cross really means? They don't know J.S. about goodness!

  • @ChrisC11291980 true on one hand but the Klansmen still have souls. Pray that they change if you clam to know what the cross stands for.

  • O'Connor was a GENIUS!

  • @fran9860 Ditto! Carroll O'Connor was one of the greats.

  • Comment removed

  • This is a joke. Black blood. They should of banned this show a long time ago. . . .

  • @SuperSonicPS3 i agree..but i like when archie called them *honkies

  • @SuperSonicPS3 If you knew more about this show you'd know that that was how the character of Archie was. His character stood up to the KKK, as should everyone. That was Archie's way of trying to scare them into not lighting the crosses.

  • @SuperSonicPS3 You're exactly the demographic this show was not aimed at. Congratulations on being so dense that you can't understand what you're missing or why everyone else is laughing.

  • You're completely missing the point of both the character of Archie Bunker and these moments. Archie is a humorous representation of everything wrong with racism, sexism, and just about every other prejudice. However, these moments where Archie stands up for the things he dislikes in order to keep something he likes even more, even if he's standing up to people with similar ideas, show that those ideas are a result of ignorance and the people who hold them are not necessarily bad people.

  • @Mycroft616 Amen. My grandfather on my mom's side was a kind, generous, brave man who was in the army during WWII and worked hard all of his life. He passed when I was only 7, and unfortunately one of the more vivid memories I have of him is watching the Price Is Right with him, and any time a black person (mainly women) would absolutely lose it on stage after winning he'd make some comments.

  • @SuperSonicPS3 You have to remember that at the time this show was made, there were (and sadly still are a few) people who believed that if you got a transfusion of blood from another race, it would change you somehow. The same philosophy shows up in an episode of MASH and the Dr.s there have a lot of fun teaching that soldier just how wrong he is.

  • Archie was a victim of a time where racism was ramped and depending where you lived and who your parents where, the primary people that poison your mind . Archie Bunker for all his short comings, was and always will be a humanitarian.

  • Archies mouth wasn't good at all he talk like of bigot, he was also rude and inconsiderate BUT he didn't hate.

  • lol archie reminds me so much of my dad

  • ArchiewWas nowhere nearly as flawed as our present pseudo-reality. Hardly fair or balanced you need to get a radio talk show on Fox or lick O'Reillys/ Becks right-wing Nazi boots

  • Was Archie as flawed as our present pseudo-reality? get a radio talk show on Fox

  • were the full ep?

  • I'd say "hate" wasnt even the word. Archie never hated jews or black people. Hell he took a black maid at some point, raises a jewish girl (with the soul belief she should be raised according to her religion), and despite his objections he didnt actively tried to destroy the relationship his daughter and her husband.

Hate? no, dislike, being uncomfortable is more like it. But he was still a good person.

  • @michelrpg : If you are referring to "Teresa" on the maid, she was Hispanic.

  • @D2Kprime really? I recall her being black. I feel ashamed as a fan, however the point still stands.

  • @michelrpg Didn't Mrs Jefferson work for Archie at one point (maybe part time), be fore moving on up?

  • @racefan32 I have no idea actually.... I remember a lot of the show, but not everything. But I think it was a different person though, I dont think the maid was Mrs Jefferson.

  • @michelrpg Yeah I know, and Mrs Jefferson was the Neighbor I do know that.

  • @D2Kprime Teresa was a boarder. He had a Black maid on Archie Bunker's Place.

  • @michelrpg This was the genius of this show! The took this man, who, on the outside, looked like a narrow minded racist bigot . . . and showed us the heart of a truly good man! Archie was a victim of his times . . . plain and simple . . . but when it came down to it, he passionately defended what was REALLY right. This was such a brilliant creation!! And I don't think anyone could have pulled it off better than Carroll O'Connor . . . A perfect show

  • @michelrpg HE wasnt a RACIST he was a BIGOT... there is a difference

  • @solidkid4 I didnt say he was a racist. And if you read what I said you'd realise that the way I described him is the way a bigot would feel; uncomfortable.
