Im having an issue with the audio to score in logic 9, i can get thru all the steps, but after i pick a sample i get a level but cant hear anything, i know its an issue with things being soloed or anything like that, ive went thru the logic book for troubleshooting and cant find anything, do you have any ideas aas to why im not hearing anything, it would make my day if you could help me out
is there a way to set different threshholds to trigger diferent drum sounds...say if you had a drum track that had kick hat tom and snare in it...(example - if someone sends you a stem mix, and you or they want to completely change the drum sounds)?
anyone looking for a good replacement plug-in Drumagog works wonders. I'm not too sure about replacing cymbals, though. I've only used it on the actual drums. You could always add your own samples or record your own and have the plug-in trigger them when you want. It has sensitivity adjustment and you could also blend the track with samples instead of complete replacement. Just search on youtube if you want a demonstration
hey thanks dude. there are very few videos that demonstrate this so clearly from beginning to end. it's really not a hard process when you get down to it, but you showed all the necessary steps. well played :)

So logic 8 has the sound replacement tool? I also wanted to know, if i use sound replacment does it matte what kind of mics i use to mic the drum set? I figured to get cheap mics and use good samples
@Stifledsubmission -Yes, this is in Logic 8. If you are going to replace the drum set with samples then it doesn't really matter how nice the mics are that you use except that you will still need as good of isolation as possible. You'll want to use cardioid pattern microphones and not omni ones. And, you'll want to mic each drum piece very carefully because it is hard to replace cymbals and toms if you are just using the overhead mics.
I have 2 condensers that i want to use for overheads. I went to school to learn about mic placement/audio recording. SO i know about phase issues and where to place over heads. i figure i'll only need about 5-6 microphones on a set, one on snare, one on hi hat, one on the kick drum, 2 over heads and maybe one on a tom. I also wanted to know what are good drum samples to use and how will i use them? I saw steven slate drum samples, but i'm not sure if i'll need another program to use it..
@Stifledsubmission - Sounds like you have a good foundation. I use BFD and a few other custom sample banks... these all work as plug-ins which are triggered by MIDI.
I recently bought some really nice drum sounds/samples and they are all .wav files I believe, and some of them are .gog files... How do I use the .gog files? Can I do my drum replacing with them just like in this video even though they aren't MIDI files or is there a different way I can do this?
@sskyri The .gog files are for use with drumagog which is a separate "drum replacement" plugin. It's not uncommon to include drumagog functionality because it is one of the more popular drum replacement tools. Of course you can do most of the same with Logic.
dude. you are a life saver. thank you so very much! and thanks to the creators of logic for making such an incredible program. But seriously man, I could hug you.
Hmmm, well I would have to see what is going on. Either you do not have a kit loaded or you don't have the MIDI on the right note in the kit. Make sure you are getting sound by opening the piano role and clicking on the keyboard looking keys on the right. If you hear sound when clicking here, then you have a kit loaded. If not, then load one. Look and see which MIDI note you are using to trigger the sample, is it on an active note? If not, then move them all to a new location.
I have an idea, if you're going to ultimately use midi to make your drums sounds. Just ditch the drummer, and pound the beat out on your keyboard. Skip all this silliness.
I totally agree. The problem is I often get paid to mix tracks that have crappy drums. This way I can replace part or all of the drums and then use MIDI tools to tighten things up.
With audio to score you have a lot more velocity layers available. You can theoretically have up to 128 different samples triggered by analyzing the original level of the drums. aptrigga definitely looks simpler, but audio to score can also translate pitched instruments into MIDI which makes it even more powerful. Apples and oranges really.
They were taken from the raw tracks of the song ASU is Hot Hot Hot, which you can probably still find here on the Tube. The tracking kit was pretty awful and lo-fi in the strictest sense of the concept. You can have the original raw tracks if you would like. I'm sure they have mashup written all over them.
Great video!!! I had read about this but forgot that a new MIDI track had to be selected when exporting to score but this video really filled in the gaps for me. Thanks for the excellent help.
Hey culture, Is the 828 an interface? If so I had the same problem with fastrac pro. i found out that I had to plug speakers or headphones directly into my interface. I was confused because I did not have to do this in garageband. Turns out it's a difference between midi data and audio between the two programs. If your issue sounds the same maybe try the above. Hope it helps.
ya im using the motu as my interface and yes my EVENT 8's
are directly plugged in to the motu threw the Xlr inputs. i can play my korg G or my mv-8800 and other samplers directly into the motu and i get playback being that its only being used as a sound card.
in logic i choose motu as my audio and no playback only recording.
i can record but i get no playback on my Events 8 monitors.????????????????help where do i need to go on logic i tried everything i got the motu as primary. like i said it records but no playback.
People should know how precious this tip is. Thanks for post. Much better possibilitys against expensive drums replacer softwares.
Good job. You should tag with another's words to people find it much more easier, like "drums replacer", "drums sound repository" or anything like that.
thnx for the prompt response im running a motu mk3 with logic. when i play my outboard gear and record it records but no playback sound threw my events which are plugged in by xlr, and have selected the motu as my audio.. i think it something to do with cue mix settings.
can anyone help that uses motu mk3 with logic to get the settings?
Thanks!

was it logic 8 or 9 that had a special function actually labeled "drum replacement", cause this way of doing it works in logic 7, too....

Hey
I have a qustion, about Logic Studio:
How would I put effects on one side of or above middle "C" ( every thing below middle C is dry and everything above is wet, (reverb, delay etc )
Would I acomplish this in the EXS24 or somewere in the piano roll window?
Any help would be great!
Thanks

you could just use aptrigga. it's really easy to use and a lot quicker but you do need to have your samples in a folder, not an instrument

The easiest way with this is to load the desired samples into the EXS24. It is a relatively painless process.
