It doesn't look as bad as people say, but is there any war aspect of the game? And can you play as, say, Macedon, The Seleucid or Ptolemaic Empires? What's the starting date anyway?

Starting date is 232 BC. So you may play as Macedon, the Seleucid empire and so on. Even small nations like Bactria or Sparta can be played.

It doesn't show on this video but you spend a lot of time fighting battles in a 3d real-time environnement. Check Takeda 3's videos on youtube to get an idea how it's being played.

This looks like same game as Takeda3 but different scenario. Takeda3 is a good game but don't like the 3D battles.

There is a small red icon in the army building panel at the bottom. Select the leader you want as marschal and then press the red icon.

@BlaseVonB Civ4 is quite different game than Civ3. they tried to put more effort onto city specialization unlike previous Civs so player have to do more in country management and tried to improve diplomacy which still is a failure of all 4 Civs. Implementing religion is a good idea also different spies are that makes Civ4 different than Civ3. Look uppon Civ4 as a totally different game not as sequel. I still think that diplomacy and trade needs a lot of work in Civ4 code.

jesus christ, its not all about the graphics people . Look at games like Hearts of Iron 1 - 3 or Victoria or Europa Universalis..is the deep gameplay that makes these games awesome as hell if you are looking for great graphics go play Empire Totalwar (awesome game and awesome graphics)
