The thunderstorm that pounded south-central Nebraska in June ended up leaving something for the record books The largest hailstone ever recovered in the United States a 7inch 17.8-CM wide chunk of ice almost as large as a soccerball The National Climate Extremes Committee which is responsible for validating national records, formally accepted the measurements last month: seven inches in diameter17.8 centimeters an a circumference of 18.75 inches47.6 centimeters). Norman never had this size hail.
I would think that if a hail storm with balls this big would destroy entire buildings. That's like thousands of cannonballs raining down at terminal velocity.
when hail gets this big it looks clumpy like chunks stuck together because when it rides the high wind up drafts it gets stuck and frozen in lumpy shapes and it can get big in a tornado if tornadoes can pick up houses that weigh thousands of pounds think how big chunks of ice can get
wow...now imagine one weighing 60 lbs...man, hope you didn't have any damage. that has got to be a record...btw, if it was a water balloon, you would see indentations where the fingers are grasping it...not fake...
@p4vl0o the only thing filled with water, or most likely air...is your head..do research, these hailstones are real..if you lived in a severe weather area you would know that..they are rare that big, but it does happen
fake hail cant get that big. baseball at most. hail is when rain eater freezes together and gets to heavy and falls. hail is also a good warning there possibly is a tornado near because the updrafts from them are perfect for hail to form.
@ssj4goko4 you are incorrect...go check the links from this video as well as the Natl weather service and NOAA..I have seen bigger then softball myself in Colorado, and if you listened to the video this was recovered during the Huge tornado outbreak in Norman, OK would be a good idea in the future to get all the facts before you start shooting off about fake this and biggest that, I doubt you have ever lived in a severe weather area or you would know this was possible.
@stumer56 wouldnt feel that shit cracking your melon. would knock you out so fast you'd crap your pants. now getting his in the shoulder, or the grapes. : (
in May 2011 in Western Okla we had hail about penny size. What so unusual about this hail...it was CONE SHAPED!! Shape reminded me of the old style parachutes. I've seen all sizes & irregular hail but never in a cone formation. No doubt HAARP. Btw Aug. 9 2011 watching a large t-storm from my home in the north watched "RED LIGHTENING"! 1st time to see this!! Have you ever seen Red Lightening???
Expect more of these events and when you start seeing spirals in the skies then move your arses up to the mountains. The Ancients warned us this time would come. Peace.
Friend, obviously you're too young to have been taught proper manners, so let me give you a leg up; Rule # 1. treat folks with respect; you never know who's had a bad day, but for certain, you can get your ass whipped.
we used to make baloon balls just like that when we were kids (take a baloon and filll with water and hang in freezer (presto ,they looked just like that
Weather is weird. Down the road from this same family, their neighbor's house was turned on its foundation...but not a single item inside was knocked over, and all the fine china was undisturbed. Like I said...weather is weird!
A family I know that lived outside of my little hometown in Kansas once had a hail stone the size of a basketball hit their house. It went through the roof, straight through the second storey of their house down into the first storey where it hit the top of their refrigerator and stayed put. It did not break, but it ruined their refrigerator!!
@chich234 Check out the other link I added, about 'hail analysis' - there's more photos there of large hailstones that didn't crack, either, upon hitting the earth.
my friend who works at haarp works on a project that can create big hail by bouncing some sort of frequency off the sky into a seeded cloud. i never really heard of haarp but its pretty cool what he said he does there. he's been livin in alaska for the last 9 years, i finally get to visit him next week. were gonna take a tour of his operations facility too! gotta love science.
Looks like a frozen water balloon. But I know there was 6" hail confirmed. Get prepared for more record breakers. The Bible tells of unbelievable sized hail. So whether this is a real hail stone, or not, this ice ball is a baby compared to what is coming. Get right with God, get ready and get Jesus. Only one safe place. Ps. 91
Looks like they stuck a balloon filled with water in the freezer

Real hail stones don't look like that. The real big ones look lumpy because they are a bunch of little ones melted together.
PatMcCarthy420 9 months ago
Too smooth to be hail. I think they are irregular in shape.
