I lived in the DDR in the 70's and early eighties. It 's wasn't all that bad. Yes, they had an oppressive secret police (Stasi), but just about every Western country-including USA has its citizens being monitored constantly and are bombarded with propaganda with TV, radio and newspapers. The people I knew were happy and content and proud of their land. It was such a wonderful country. It was the younger teens and young adults that got Westernised and protested.

How terrible that the great nation of Germany was sodden first by the Nazis and then by Communist Russia,who turned East Germany into a cold and sick place. The Soviet and Nazi empires were destroyed for a reason...because they were awful!!
