For some reason, under "Physical Memory (MB)," it says I only have 6 MB Free... Anyone have any idea why it says this? My computer does not move slowly, as far as I can tell. I just want to know why it says I only have 6 MB free when I have 4G ram. If you're in a freezed program and nothing responds and you can't see the task manager when you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, try this:

Press in order:

Tab (highlights your program)

E (E for End Application, on my computer it is A but in most computers I think it should be E)

Arrow left (highlights the "end now")

Enter (chooses "end now")

It will only work if the last time you user Task Manager you left it on "applications" tab :)

I have never tried if this worked on english computers though :-P

The OS Windows vista itself is a huge fail when it comes to overall performance Windows 7 isn't so much of a fail but it's still not as good as xp without tweaks that is.. i know this because i've tested them all in my workshop with hand built computers of the same spec.

@borakada013 if you mean the two that were side by side at the top then you go to view click cpu history and select more than one graph ..... how many graphs you have corralates to how many processing units you have i have 4 with hyperthreading so it will say i have 8 and seperate them into eight graphs and without hyperthreading enabled it will say i have 4 and i will have 4 graphs ..... i hope that helped if not ask again so i can help

I only have 1 gig of ram. Firefox is at about 90,000k right now but has jumped up to 200,000 before and everything seems to use more memory than it should. CPU usage spikes to about 30% if I just move a window or do something really minor, even wiggling the mouse cursor around can get it up to about 15%. There's also screen tearing when I move windows around and they will sometimes leave tracers. Also there's a stuttery effect when anything moves on the screen.

This even effects the mouse cursor; you can't get precise control with it. Like if I'm trying to go to an exact point in a video or set the audio to an exact number it's impossible. I've done a system recovery to bring it back to the factory settings but even that didn't help. Any idea what the problem could be?

click the "processes" tab

then look at all the processes, see which is using the most of your cpu

(click on "cpu" to toggle max-to-min and min-to-max display) Good luck

@y35n00b5 The System Idle Process appears to hog memory because it occupies all of the CPU that is not currently being used by anything else. This is because the CPU needs to be doing SOMETHING at all times, even if that means it has to do "nothing".

The higher CPU your System Idle Process hogs, the better.

You can watch the Idle CPU go down as you open up CPU-intensive programs or do CPU-intensive tasks.

With that out of the way, Vista is still crap. ;)

Hi. When I open my task manager, and go to "Performance" it shows my TOTAL physical memory as: 1964208....my AVAILABLE as: 1480092 and my SYSTEM CACHE as: 1562420. Does this make sense????? I thought that the Available and System Cache when added together were supposed to equal the TOTAL physical memory. What's going on here? When I run or open anything, it seems to stumble....like it acts :"choppy"....is this issue related to the memory? Any help would be appreciated....Thanks!

ya my pf usage is really high and i dont know why.

usually its at 1.1 like yours, but all of a sudden its full at 2.39 gigs and thats the limit and its causing my computer to run slow, and has made my internet crash a couple of times. I also occasionally get this message that says "my virtual memory is full and will deny further memory usage"

do you know how i can get it back to normal?

well do the typical, disk cleanup, defragment, physically clean the computer...as in dusting it...and do you have decent virus protection? and lastly how much percentage of your hard drive is available? let me know ill try and help :)

I only have <0.5 GB ram and have found that a daily (sometimes more often! ) restart is useful to reclaim the memory that the OS will not on its own. Good luck!

yeah, you can use disk space to act like ram. first go to properties under my computer and find the advanced tab i think. click on chage virtual memory. u will see how much you have now. multiply your current ram by 1.5 and change the virtual memory to THIS number on both slots. dont exced1.5X ram.

the usb flashdrive is a storage. it's not the RAM. the RAM is the speed of ur computer and how fast it goes. the storage is how much space it could store.

The CPU dictates how fast the computer is, not the RAM.

The RAM is the amount of temporary memory the computer can hold and access.

A USB Flash drive is a storage device for holding data on a more permanent basis.
