  • We've had a pair of Cooper's hawks nest in our neighbors yard for 4 years in a row now. They just started rebuilding the nest. In the last three years they have successfully raised 7 babies. :D

  • Why get rid of them? Finches multiply exponentially and crowd out the native species. You should allow the hawk to cut down on the numbers.

  • I have a feeder in my backyard and daily I get huge numbers of small birds. Lately a Cooper's hawk has been hunting in the bushes next to my feeder and those little birds freak out when he shows up and I don't blame them! He is massive compared to them and he is there on a mission to catch one of them for a meal. I want to see him catch a bird one of these days. Hey, hawks gotta eat too!

  • I have a pic of one (Coopers) outside my bedroom window just after Christmas '10. We keep finch feeders out to........ feed the hawks. I like them and there are plenty of finches here

  • gavilon-thats portuguese right

  • Why get rid of him? I feed birds and I love raptors, in fact they're my favorite, so beautiful and efficient, and so rare these days with all the habitat destruction. Too many humans having way too many kids.

  • I dont know if this is the same bird but i live in Wisconsin and it was rare for me to see these huge brown and white birds but now i see them all the time in my neighborhood and everytime they come around a bunch of crows start attacking them..it's always like 3 or 4 chasing 1 down..i dont know what to think of them.

  • nice ¡¡

  • Nice footage, I see these in my backyard all the time, but it's very difficult to get a good picture.

  • How do you tell the difference between a Coopers and a Sharp-shinned hawk?

  • Sharp-shinned hawk is usually much smaller then a cooper's hawk

  • @okzoia The sharp shin (male) is about the size of a robin and the female the size close to a pigeon-the coopers are bigger, more crow sized...in fact the female coopers is a little bigger than a crow...also the sharp shinned has the straight end tail when over head and the coopers the round end...if you see a small aggressive hawk dive bombing bigger hawks or birds of any size it is almost always a sharp shinned hawk.

  • wow , nice video

  • Beautiful bird! Look out Mr. Rabbit!

  • Sweeeet! They are stealth bombers. If you have bird feeders in your yard then to a coopers hawk you have the old country buffet in your yard! Nature can be cruel...survival of the fittest...that's just the way it is.

  • it doesnt take a bird feeder to make a buffet with a cooper. i have a family that lay eggs in my pine tree every year and they play around and i actually had a baby fall down and i had to take care of it for almost 2 days until the mom came back (by take care i mean fend off cats and provide water)

  • where in the hudson river?

    Iam from nyack.

  • I have one in my backyard and it keeps on killing the little finches and i have alot of birdfeeders too \\ how do i get rid of him, with out harming the hawk??

  • Hi. As long as you have feeders and small birds in your yard, you are going to get the occasional hawk. There's really no way to get rid of it since small birds are its food. I have feeders in my yard and this guy hangs around once in a while. They do eat some birds but they are also beautiful to look at. From what I have seen in my yard the past few years, hawks don't really harm the small bird population. they go for the birds that are either sick or injured because they are easier to catch.

  • Thanks for the info because i saw the hawk eating a Chickadee so there a chance it could of been sick right. thanks!~

  • haha i have a pack of coopers and humming birds that seem to have formed a gang. lil birds follow them around funny stuff.

  • @Shoopa007 u dont get rid of the hawk, u allow it to do its thing, which is hunt birds. your story is brilliant, but u like the wrong bird... But i think the Coopers Hawk is one of the gorgeous birds around, i would enjoy they're presence

  • great footage! funny to hear you chewing whatever you were eating. er..may want to pause while filming, though. :-)

  • yes, it sounds like chewing:) it was actually people walking nearby on a gravel path. that's what spooked the bird.

  • You are Lucky to have local Coopers Hawks!!!!Of course our Common Hawk here is the Redtailed!

  • my area has coopers, kestrals (dunno how to spell it) red tails and im almost positive i saw a merlan (forgot how to spell that too) oh and common vultures. big raptor community.

  • Very Nice video!!!Of a very Beautiful Bird!!!!

  • thank you. it is one of my favorite birds.

  • Do you Live in the west? Here in the Northeast Coops are only Common on Migration!I Love their proportions,so Beautifully Built!!!!
