even though sabonis is clearly limited because of injuries to both achilles' tendons, he was still a beast and played very intelligently.
this is the first time i ever see nikos galis, and he was amazing, it seems he's always a step ahead, and he takes and makes ridiculous shots without thinking twice.
it's a marvel, basketball was so advanced worldwide, so if some particular player never played in the nba it is our loss, not theirs.

I don't know if Galis was a better player than Sabonis, actually u can't compare them a lot since the one was a point guard and the other a center. The truth though is, that in the last seconds of the game, everybody tried to find Galis and if he did get the ball everyone and mostly his opponents knew what the outcome would be... 2 pts at least.

Sabonis was better player,its doesnt matter that Galis use to score a lot of points.Sabas he was not just a player,he was a legend.But Galis was as well very great player.

In the 80's Petrovic was the most talented, Sabonis the most dominant, Meneghin the most agressive, Epi the most regular and Galis the best offensive player among the europeans (Oscan was from Brazil).

You compare Sabonis and Pertovic Divac or Kukoc? you sick. In this video Galis scored 45 points , Sabonis only 19 but he grab about 20 rebound and block 5 shots. Sabonis is best europian player in history , and there is no more what to say.

No offence, but i dont know what's so special about this galis... really...he plays casual basketball... Ofcourse if galis allways makes Greeces shot, he'll score more than others , but, with players like that, you need to depend on luck too much. You defend well against 1 player and the team loses - players like that are a weakness of the team, not the strenght of it. Now sabas can pass well, block, rebound and ofc score if needed.
Still with no offence, but I don't think that a guy that averaged 30 points in his entire 15 year career, and shot 60%, is casual. When Galis was young, he did not need LUCK to score 30 or 40 points. There was no way that he would NOT score 40 points by then, even triple teamed. In his worst games, we would score like 20 points and dish 10 assists. Still nobody should compare him with sabas.
It's impossible to play casual basketball in a Euroleague championship against a Soviet team that has 3 future NBA starters and a FIBA Hall of Fame Coach that is intent on stopping a single offensive player by shutting all the other guys down.

Well u see here all the time he's makign a casual attack. Ussually he doesnt even pass his defender here, he just makes a good shot. Sometimes u do it sometimes u dont. And take it to account that its supposed to be his best shots.I mean ok a lot of points but why would u make a video out of this if there's nothing special here - only shots that were not missed.
What do you expect him to do exactly man? Eat his breakfast while crossing over his defender or something lol? Greece won that night against a team that was superior and he scored more than half of the points. That was the "casual" thing he used to do pretty much all the time. You got to pay respect where respect is due...ps. Sabonis is the best center Europe has ever seen. Galis is among the 2-3 best shooting guards. No head to head comparison is possible between these two.
@WizardWin On the other hand we cannot compare Galis with Samponis because they played in different positions. They were both very good players each one in his position.... They are both included in the Basketball Hall of Fame, therefore noone can comment negatively about any player...

What we can say about a god ho was playing in the gods team he was the best i was in so many games of nick galis and believe me when u see him live the its a big diferents he is the one ho brakes the gravity on eart he was flying not jumping brake his body several time to score perfect
Galis had an almost supernatural relationship with scoring. He could put the ball into the basket in a variety of ways. Despite his small height he was very difficult to stop due to his ability to give a very big curve to the ball. In a word he was unstoppable!! That's why the very high average of points per game. Such players, unfortunately, do not exist in our days...
That's right, back then, everyone said that the difference between US and european basketball was chaotic. It would be interesting and fair, to see an ALL european dream team, with Petrovic, Galis, Kukoc, Divac, Sabonis, Marciulionis, Radja, Jamchy, Epi, Yannakis, Martin, Riva against the 1992 dream team. I actually believe that the United Yugoslavian team, could do it by themselves, even though the 1992 US team, were trully what basketball is all about.
It was the semi-final of the 1989 eurobasket in zagreb. The score was 81-80 for Greece indeed, Sabonis did not need to score more, cause USSR was a great team, with many good players. For Greece, Galis scored more than half of the points, since Yannakis was not in a good night, and Christodoulou added 18, plus the winning shot...

Even fame doesn't show all. We did not need the Americans to understand how HUGE Sabonis was! Galis became famous in his late 30s. Too old for the NBA. In the NCAA he averaged 27,5 points, behind Larry Bird who averaged 28,3. He played against Michael Jordan twice in 1982 and 1983, and Jordan was left stunned. Basketball was unimportant in Greece up to 1987, so Galis never made a name. Anyway, it's not fame, it's not points, it's WHAT WE SEE. And what we see in this video is TWO HUGE PLAYERS!

Both great players. Sabonis was an extremely technical and tallented player,especially if you consider his height! Galis was definatelly a scoring machine, like those that we will never see again in Europe.

I totally agree my friend. You cannot compare those players. You can only admire them. Galis was an american-like combo guard. Petrovic was a tall guard with incredible passing and shooting skills. Kukoc was the ideal all around player. Sabas was a fast center, with plastic moves and great game vision. They all play in different positions. Let's stop comparing them and start thinking of ALL OF THEM in ONE SINGLE TEAM. That would rule!!!

USA has produced the best players basketball has ever seen. Players like Magic, Jordan, Bird, Kareem, O'Neil, are really what the sport is about. Today they only have Kobe, but even if he's a great player, he's arrogant like the other guys of the new Generation of the american basketball. He's game's similar to Jordan's but he's not as clever as MJ was. The others are nothing than some overestimated arrogant NBA projects.

nba athletes are the only ones that are never been drug tested in olympic games....that was part of the deal that david stern made with the olympic commitee some years ago, in order to allow the return of nba pros in the games....it's not a fair game,yet still team usa won nothing in athens 2004..
I knew about a kid here, who was a great talent at basketball. He was 16.One day the coach came home and told his parents that he wanted to give him some vitamins.And the boy did take those vitamins, but in one year, he grew a beard, and his muscles became HUGE! The parents were frightened of the sudden change, and took those vitamins to a chemistry lab, where it was proved that they were drugs.The boy became like Rambo, doing nothing more than he usually did, and the coach went to jail!
My point is, that some other parents would not care about those drugs, if their son would be to become a super star. Man it's NBA here, the NBA officials were planning to make LeBron a huge star (you know, the jordan mania) since he was a kid. We know how it works. Of course this is basketball though, drugs are not enough.You have to have the skills too.LeBron can score at least!

Well Drazen and Sabonis were not actually famous of their athletic game.What was really distinctive about them, was the fact that they could read the game in an extreme clever way. Indeed in NBA players are free to use drugs.See LeBron.He's 23 and he looks like a 30 year old! If Galis played to the NBA and used those drugs, he would probably jump over the basket!
In my opinion, we can't compare the three of them. Definatelly Galis was the most spectacular of all of them. Drazen was the best shooter ever, and had an incredible vision of the game, but also had great team-mates. Sabonis was definately MUCH more than JUST a good player. He was the most intelligent player ever, and had great ideas over the game!
Up till now , every kid in Greece imitates Nick Galis' moves...easily one of the 10 most important figures in Greece in the last century(including politics,art etc etc).

No offence, but i dont know what's so special about this galis... really...he plays casual basketball... Ofcourse if galis allways makes Greeces shot, he'll score more than others , but, with players like that, you need to depend on luck too much. You defend well against 1 player and the team loses - players like that are a weakness of the team, not the strenght of it. Now sabas can pass well, block, rebound and ofc score if needed.

Still with no offence, but I don't think that a guy that averaged 30 points in his entire 15 year career, and shot 60%, is casual. When Galis was young, he did not need LUCK to score 30 or 40 points. There was no way that he would NOT score 40 points by then, even triple teamed. In his worst games, we would score like 20 points and dish 10 assists. Still nobody should compare him with sabas.

It's impossible to play casual basketball in a Euroleague championship against a Soviet team that has 3 future NBA starters and a FIBA Hall of Fame Coach that is intent on stopping a single offensive player by shutting all the other guys down.

Well u see here all the time he's makign a casual attack. Ussually he doesnt even pass his defender here, he just makes a good shot. Sometimes u do it sometimes u dont. And take it to account that its supposed to be his best shots.I mean ok a lot of points but why would u make a video out of this if there's nothing special here - only shots that were not missed.

What do you expect him to do exactly man? Eat his breakfast while crossing over his defender or something lol? Greece won that night against a team that was superior and he scored more than half of the points. That was the "casual" thing he used to do pretty much all the time. You got to pay respect where respect is due...ps. Sabonis is the best center Europe has ever seen. Galis is among the 2-3 best shooting guards. No head to head comparison is possible between these two.

@WizardWin On the other hand we cannot compare Galis with Samponis because they played in different positions. They were both very good players each one in his position.... They are both included in the Basketball Hall of Fame, therefore noone can comment negatively about any player...

Galis had an almost supernatural relationship with scoring. He could put the ball into the basket in a variety of ways. Despite his small height he was very difficult to stop due to his ability to give a very big curve to the ball. In a word he was unstoppable!! That's why the very high average of points per game. Such players, unfortunately, do not exist in our days...

That's right, back then, everyone said that the difference between US and european basketball was chaotic. It would be interesting and fair, to see an ALL european dream team, with Petrovic, Galis, Kukoc, Divac, Sabonis, Marciulionis, Radja, Jamchy, Epi, Yannakis, Martin, Riva against the 1992 dream team. I actually believe that the United Yugoslavian team, could do it by themselves, even though the 1992 US team, were trully what basketball is all about.

It was the semi-final of the 1989 eurobasket in zagreb. The score was 81-80 for Greece indeed, Sabonis did not need to score more, cause USSR was a great team, with many good players. For Greece, Galis scored more than half of the points, since Yannakis was not in a good night, and Christodoulou added 18, plus the winning shot...

Even fame doesn't show all. We did not need the Americans to understand how HUGE Sabonis was! Galis became famous in his late 30s. Too old for the NBA. In the NCAA he averaged 27,5 points, behind Larry Bird who averaged 28,3. He played against Michael Jordan twice in 1982 and 1983, and Jordan was left stunned. Basketball was unimportant in Greece up to 1987, so Galis never made a name. Anyway, it's not fame, it's not points, it's WHAT WE SEE. And what we see in this video is TWO HUGE PLAYERS!

Both great players. Sabonis was an extremely technical and tallented player,especially if you consider his height! Galis was definatelly a scoring machine, like those that we will never see again in Europe.

I totally agree my friend. You cannot compare those players. You can only admire them. Galis was an american-like combo guard. Petrovic was a tall guard with incredible passing and shooting skills. Kukoc was the ideal all around player. Sabas was a fast center, with plastic moves and great game vision. They all play in different positions. Let's stop comparing them and start thinking of ALL OF THEM in ONE SINGLE TEAM. That would rule!!!

USA has produced the best players basketball has ever seen. Players like Magic, Jordan, Bird, Kareem, O'Neil, are really what the sport is about. Today they only have Kobe, but even if he's a great player, he's arrogant like the other guys of the new Generation of the american basketball. He's game's similar to Jordan's but he's not as clever as MJ was. The others are nothing than some overestimated arrogant NBA projects.

nba athletes are the only ones that are never been drug tested in olympic games....that was part of the deal that david stern made with the olympic commitee some years ago, in order to allow the return of nba pros in the games....it's not a fair game,yet still team usa won nothing in athens 2004..

I knew about a kid here, who was a great talent at basketball. He was 16.One day the coach came home and told his parents that he wanted to give him some vitamins.And the boy did take those vitamins, but in one year, he grew a beard, and his muscles became HUGE! The parents were frightened of the sudden change, and took those vitamins to a chemistry lab, where it was proved that they were drugs.The boy became like Rambo, doing nothing more than he usually did, and the coach went to jail!

My point is, that some other parents would not care about those drugs, if their son would be to become a super star. Man it's NBA here, the NBA officials were planning to make LeBron a huge star (you know, the jordan mania) since he was a kid. We know how it works. Of course this is basketball though, drugs are not enough.You have to have the skills too.LeBron can score at least!

Well Drazen and Sabonis were not actually famous of their athletic game.What was really distinctive about them, was the fact that they could read the game in an extreme clever way. Indeed in NBA players are free to use drugs.See LeBron.He's 23 and he looks like a 30 year old! If Galis played to the NBA and used those drugs, he would probably jump over the basket!

In my opinion, we can't compare the three of them. Definatelly Galis was the most spectacular of all of them. Drazen was the best shooter ever, and had an incredible vision of the game, but also had great team-mates. Sabonis was definately MUCH more than JUST a good player. He was the most intelligent player ever, and had great ideas over the game!
