  • Love the Fly by at 2:18

  • sounds great, awesome version but too short :/

  • 大好きな歌です

  • Ultravox-Songs erinnern mich an meine Lieblings-Radiosender in Lima, Double Nine. Nur an dieser Station könnten wir so etwas wie diese Musik hören ....!!

  • Does anyone know what year this video was recorded?

  • Reap ... the ... Wiiiild .. Wind

  • chills.....

  • 11 people just can't fly

  • 2:10 Be still my heart!!!!!!!!!!

  • @harrietcow Good call.

  • Yep... Ultravox is one of the reasons I hate time goes by...

    bio

  • Oh wow. This takes me waaaaay back!!! And I am still in love with them. So many songs with such an unique sound. Can't keep your feet still! :) I think I am 30 years younger!!

  • pretty sure i was there on their second night of the tour met the guys at the back stage b4 the concert!!! gud times :)

  • I'm viewing this as an antidote to the X factor which is on in the other room. "MY VOLUME BUTTON IS BIGGER THAN YOURS COWAL

  • I'm viewing this as an antidote to the X factor which is on in the other room. "MY VOLUME BUTTON IS BIGGER THAN YOURS COWAL

  • With his 50's young gentry hairstyle/moustache combo, impossible-to-copy, stiff-neck dance and upper-class smirk, Midge Ure was, IMHO, by far the most original personality in the 80's pop music scene, extremely rich in personalities. A true genius and THE band of the eighties. Reap the wild wind was - again IMHO - the best song of the best UV album.

Shame this legendary Hammersmith Odeon concert is not available on DVD and virtually unreachable in VHS... Only the CD remains...

  • @RockyBalboa7777 I agree -Midge is unbeatable and I'm a big fan of him, I saw him live unplugged and acoustic in Cracow, Poland Nov 2009 and I absolutely love the artist and the person.

But I cannot agree Matt Bellamy [not Ballamy] imitates him - lots of singers use falsetto, but Matt develope his own unique style and we should be happy the artists of the 80's are still admired but also because there is Matt/Muse it means great music is not dead.

  • Still TOP !

  • There the ex playing the drums...

  • i wish i was born 15 years earlierlol

  • AUf THomas ... 3 Jahre tod ... Wenn irgend was cool war dann das ... Auf die kämpfer ... ;)

  • midge just makes me go spare. he's soooo very gorgious. and such a sweet man. love ya a lot midge.

  • 02:09 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww <3

    love Midge & Ultravox :D

  • I can imagine myself flying when I heard this song, it is strange because I usually put this tune when I am driving in my car in the mountains, this song has some kind of special magic related to mountains and sky.

  • @BlackSkyThunder THank you for posting that, I feel something similar. When I hear it imagine a mighty sailing vessel on a huge sea, heaving and rollicking in full glory.

  • i miss the 80's

  • I love this song! Midge is a cutie!!

  • Yeah, the early to mid-80's were cool. I got to see a lot of bands at the Whisky a Go Go, the Roxy & Gazzari's that went on to be big draws. Then the late 80's Hair Metal came along and just ruined everything.

  • Fantastic... that's the only word that describes this. 5*

  • Wo wow wowowow amazing performance, wish i had been there

  • 80`s at its best.,)..I really wish I was an adult in the 80`s when it all this took place..:(..Midge is a genius and a humble man..;)..

  • @TheHelena76 Thats weird because I often think that I was born to late, I think this is a horrible era to be an adult in, if you had your young/middle age years in the 80s then you were very lucky

  • @TheHelena76 ...I was there, saw them in concert '84 - you would have loved it but the times was not so nice. Music lives for ever anyhow - and it is a power for change. Live Aid is proof, I can miss that spirit...

  • @TheHelena76 you're so right. My dad worked at Toronto International Airport in the 1980's and met Midge! Dad said the same, that he was totally nice, cheerful and down to earth. Hard to believe such a stellar talent and triple threat on lead vocals, guitar and keys could be so modest!

  • This song makes me wish I was an R.A.F. pilot in 1940!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, way to show how stupid you are.

  • It's obvious you haven't seen the original video with the R.A.F. theme.

  • Oh, sorry for my blatant ignorance.

  • Superior compo! really good there singer! Is he making the music?

  • It's always great to see some great live footage from some of the legendary bands from the 80's! It takes me back to a great time for music...

  • Ahhhhhhh, real music............that you can feel and makes you soar. These were the best of times.

  • Spot On!!!!!!!!!!

  • brilliant live version

  • what a concept, a song that actually has , you know, melody!

  • Ahsans786: True. I think the use of melody died off somewhere around 1994. Maybe earlier. Rest in peace, sweet melody. We miss you.

  • LOL yeah but look at the peer pressure of the time, man. At least he can live with his relatively subdued hair-do. Again compared with some of the pond-life of the era.

  • these guys are amazin

  • This is an elegant song!! Midge is one of the masters of the new romantics and his melodies are pure and romantic,

Ultravox, what a great song!! Great live

    REAP THE WILD WIND!

  • Maravillosos, se nota el gran talento del vocalista y demás integrantes. Su música es de lo mejor que existe!

  • what a wonderful music! what a wonderful years!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Its just you.

  • I LIKE THIS SONG!!!

  • ahh, amazing.!

  • THANX. I like music the 80's.

  • I love this classic song!

  • Midge Ure rockin the 'stache. I love it!!!

    Great song!!

  • Thumb´s up for this gentlemen :)

    really nice songs

    still!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder wht the lyrcis mean...it seems a ghost thing to me

  • Midge himself says the words are not meant to mean anything, they're just a collection of words.

  • Just seen them there. I didn't really like it to be honest. The sound was not as rich as this recording. There were no backing singers to give the haunted sounded "reap the wild wind" so it sounded weak. Also there was no echo.

They were still great but I kept feeling unfullfilled by every song.

  • No Messengers to make it come to life!! :-(

  • lets say you were all drunk and stoned and painted something while listening to this, you would never get the million dollars that its worth. ;~^

  • Yeah basically, Messengers were required. It sounded like the same reason I don't listen to the Quartet Reap the Wild Wind.

Like I said though, it didn't spoil my night but it did make it not seem like them.

  • IMO, the Messengers are a crucial part of Ultravox...I dont know how many of you have the Messengers CD...but I HIGHLY recommend it...Colin's voice is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Maybe Ultravox will ask them back for a portion of the tour, altho I would be sad cuz I am not going to be able to see them, but it would so magnify the awesome music....xxxxxxxx

  • I have been saying the same thing on another thread, but the die hards will always say it was great.

Very disappointed by them at the Appolo.

  • Yeah, the sound wasn't loud at SECC at all, I know the fans are like mid 40's but for an 18 year old like me it was annoying.

Everything just felt really empty and quiet, this sounds very dramatic with the echo and Messengers.

You are right, after every song all the guys around me were like "fucking unbelievable".

  • BEST TOUR EVER!!!!! I sooo need a TARDIS....:-D

  • just got my ultravox tickets!!!! soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy x saw them first time round and the magic is still there x

  • i wonder if messenger are on tour with them to. hope they open up with this like they did in 83. jesus i have goose bumps thinking about it going back 26yrs to being 16 again

  • a fading coat that midge once wore!!

  • That opening scene with the curtain is brilliant!!...

  • my favourite memory of ultravox is standing outside the liverpool empire in 1982 listening to the 1st concert before we went in for the second, unbelievable 2 concerts in one night.Cant wait til the 14th april see them back at the apollo manchester 27 years after seeing them there.

  • ha ha i remember the same in manchester but the other way round. watching the afternoon gig. then trying to get tickets for later show but ended up listening outside 2 hours later with a 4 pack. roll on 2 weeks from now

  • Doe anyone remember that free flexi disc of the voice that came out from the Quartet Concert 1982..It was free in a magazine.. I had one bust lost it..just an 80s flashback moment!!

  • The flexi disc edit is contained in the new Definitive Edition remaster (2009) of Quartet!

  • love the spitfire flying over RAF Duxford. Made me feel all patriotic.

    This is musical genious.

Unfortunately i can't get to the live gig coming up, but hope you that are going will have the best time.

    Eddie

  • I am coming over from the USA for the 2009 Rtn to Eden tour 2009.. Will be at the Bournemouth gig.. If any fans are meeting up before/post concert then plz let me know..Thanks

  • check out TORQUE POINT and you will some links about Peter Savilles work(He designed) the Quartet theme) also DESIGN MATTERS ref RIE tour and SET MOVEMENTS 1984 tour..Interesting articles

  • The thing with some things is that not all things are meant only for one person catching it doesn't make it your property, but to let something wonderful go unshared and unprotected is criminal. To cage or lock away greatness just isn't possible. Some will die trying, but these are the one's to fall away THESE are the one's destined to be FREE.

    Tis is creativity

  • He reminds me of Ed Norton in this video. lol

  • Schönes Lied, wie damals und heute zum hören im Radio Doble 9, in der Oscar Guerra Programm.

  • A UK tour this spring from the 4 chaps is on the way...excellent :)

  • i want to cry when i think about the fact that the 80's were over 20 years ago...and i was born in 1986. sad, i know. i wish i was born 15 years earlier so i could truly experience the greatness. music and fashion sucks now.

  • Faishion sucks but the music is still great!

  • I graduated in 1986, born in 1968, so don't feel too bad...:)

  • que buena...pocas son las que quedan en el recuerdo

  • Going on April 11th at Glasgow, are they still good today?

  • who knows they have not performed together for nearly 25yrs but i hope so as im going manchester and i cant wait. was there in 83 and was one of the best gigs ive been to

  • was that midge?

  • ummm...who else would it have been?????

  • Takes me back! This was my first ever live concert! Saw them at the Liverpool Empire Nov 1982. Looked forward to it for weeks - barely slept with the excitement! Such great memories when everything seemed so much easier and life was always rosy!

  • ha ha your right great when your young with no worries. my teenage daughters love ultravox though. yrs of abuse from me.roll on next april

  • roll on april 25yrs since i was last there manchester here i come

  • Hey..is this vid from the "Monument" tour? Kinda looks like it..

Ooooo...Midge looks sooooo good in these vids..:-)

  • I know, I know, I meant Reap the Wild Wind... obviously! doh

  • fantastic! I have just bought two tickets for the 'Back to Eden' show in April (what do you mean you hadn't heard!) and I bet they open with The Voice again... rejoice!!

  • Im going too - my first ever Ultravox gig.

  • top notch music of the eighties

  • what ever happened to this band?

  • They still exist. In vain

  • I prefer the studio song when (I'm at the computer of course). However, had I been to one of their concerts, I'd be delighted.

  • I find the tempo of the live songs was always quicker than the studio versions,Reap the Wild Wind I thought was exellent in every format,Midge still does a good job when he performs it today albeit much slower

  • Remind me of my RAF days!!

  • I prefer the Messenger backing singers.

  • It was & still is a fantastic song....that if it came out today would definitely be a hit. that's the true mark of a great song.

  • Damn, just look how Billy Currie commands those keyboards. I bet he sure knows how to pleasure a woman.....or a man.

Naw, no man can play piano that great and be gay.

  • You should see other videos where he humps the keyboard.

  • hahaha that's great. I gotta see that!

  • fantastic!!

  • Godverdomme wat een klasse band!

  • wonderful!!

  • A great song!!!

  • what live song starts with all the drums

  • Kurra73: A song ENDS with all the drums: The Song (We Go)

    watch?v=TSyE0PUM-54

  • Hmm, I was certain... a bit to certain. This version does not end with drums. :(

  • ...end with drums??

    Try "The voice (live)"

    watch?v=rTUoYDYcM0o

    Bye

  • ...ENDS with drums

    Try "The voice (live)"

    watch?v=rTUoYDYcM0o

    Bye

  • Ladies, I know you saw him look into the camera, smile and show that adorable left dimple!! Well, that was enough for me!!! Midge!!!! And I know you're still sexyhot!

    Great clip, thanks ingenious4t!

    Great memories!

  • i was only 2 when this came out but as my parents were such great fans i grew up to listening to this and absolutly love it!!!

  • Great story...

    lol

  • lol....love that look from Midge! *pant pant*

  • You know it sweets!!!! Yikes...sweet, sexy Sir Midge...:-P slurp..xxxx

  • yeah.....

    lets dance...

    ULTRAboy!!

  • Please don't argue. They both John Foxx, Midge Ure were excellent. They are part of the Ultravox legend. What success means anyway. We Ultravox fans know they were one of the best bands ever!!!!

  • wow! thanks! i forgot how great these guys were . . .

  • i can listen to this song over and over and over til the end of time, or how ever long i live

  • simple facts are ultravox would never have had the success they did if john foxx had of been lead singer

  • Simple brilliance, could you imagine how big these guys would be if they were a new band in 2008? Who does MuteMath pay big tribute to?

  • Nou doubt Ultravox has always been a brilliant and awesome group. The frontmen (John Foxx, Midge Ure) gave Ultravox two different styles and directions that have to be understood in their differnt times. Foxx was post-punk, Midge was New Romantic. Foxx evolved to some kinda cold synth kraftwerkish pop, and Midge took a different direction. But Ultravox the band has always been excellent: Chris Cross (bass), Warren Cann (drums), Billie Currie (keboards, violin)

  • ultravox with john foxx completly different band to midge ures ultravox . only midge ures was better

  • Corect.

  • john foxx-no success.midge ure success

  • are you in the real world vanman

  • Fuck up.

  • you stupid bitch, midge ure and billy currie did more for ultravox than john foxx ever could. Way to make a failed attempt to sound indie jerk!

  • one of the best and most underrated bands ever

  • Stylish 80s. But Ure's moustache was very strange...

  • i agree i saw them in 82 one of the best concerts i saw

  • I saw them in 83ish. It was at the Odeon in Birmingham. Without doubt one of the best concerts I have ever been too.

  • Hi every one, I was so lucky enough to have been able to see Ultravox live with the Lament tour at Nottingham, utterly utterly brilliant, and the drum quartet they did was just so AWESOME!!!!!!!! Seen Midge loads of times since, brilliant solo, but oh to turn back time to that Nottingham concert!!!!! No doubt about it, Ultravox, Midge, are my all time hero's!!!!!

  • Thanks, Jackie W!

  • This is one of the greatest concerts ever! I'm always glad to introduce new fans to Ultravox! You're welcome pattiirene!

  • I thank my brother, Jackie W. for introducing me to Ultravox

  • we were standing outside the empire in liverpool and we could hear the 1st concert going on inside.

  • i remember going to see these at the Liverpool Empire.

one of the BEST gigs ive been to..........the place was rocking

  • I was there too soulgirl - you're right the place was rocking! I memorised the song order and wrote it in my jotter at school I was that taken by the whole atmosphere! A real musical awakening for me! Great times!

  • เทห์โคดๆๆๆๆ

  • went to see them twice in 1982 liverpool and manchester on this tour absolutely fantastic

  • i was at the manchester gig bluenose in the evening they did 2 that day. quality.

    wish they would tour again

  • i'm 16 and wish i was born in the 80's ultravox bloody rock!!!!!

  • Excellent gig. Was fortunate enough to be there on the night, about 5 rows from the front. Got the vid and LP as soon as they were released. Lent the vid to an ex and never saw it again and my brother took a dart to the LP. Shame it's never been released on DVD, or the album on CD!

  • Thank you for posting this, bloody brilliant! Ultravox was one of my favourite bands, I had a major crush on Midge when I was about 13 and pestered my mum and dad to go see them live, but they wouldn't let me go, 20 odd years later I still haven't forgiven them!hehe!

  • Well there was me trying to find the video to the Monument tour and searched on Amazon, guess what I found one, after viewing it several times I confirmed why I am a hugh Vox fan. Love the smile Midge, smile you are on camera.

  • One thing that I feel I missed out on because I was not old enough then was not seeing great bands like Ultravox, Blondie, etc. live. Ultravox was a great live perfomance band. I have "Rare Collection" and some of the live recordings are better than studio recording. I got bunch of Ultravox on my ipod & listen on the train. ONe of my favs along w/ New Order, BMovie, Blondie etc. 80's ROCK!

  • Oh, if I could describe the elation, romanticism, and passion of that time. The music was everywhere

  • Ultravox is one of my favourite band. Great upload!

  • Anyone tell me whether Vox released this on DVD please? Oh the memories of a great group

  • I saw this Monument/Quartet Tour at Southampton Gaumont in '82 when I was 14. I pestered my dad to get me a synth for Xmas so I could pretend to be Billie Currie and do all the quirky moves. Classic.

  • Larger than Life.... a melancholy and inspired feeling comes over me hearing this brilliant song after so many years.

  • Oh,80's,80"s where are thou 80's!

  • THIS is the greates Ultravox live performance ever!! I have it on VHS recorded from the television. Thanks for this clip - looks like I have to dust off the tapes this weekend :-D

  • very great !! :D

  • Thank God for Google and Youtube!

  • I saw this. The show was great.

  • Good to see I'm not alone, thinking, this was one, world class British band.

  • THAT was the music...

Miért nem lehet manapság is efféle igényes zenéket csinálni?!

    I love this song!

  • these bastards are cool

  • totaly fantastic...

  • oooooo 2.10

    midge is soooooo sexy!!!!!

  • I am hotter than Midge ;) We're both damn sexxxy
