you did a good job on this. My favorite version is by Hamish Imlach but yours is very emotional and does [as someone else said] paint pictures in the mind of long ago for some reason.
thats a nice added colour to the story.. yes some old sailor far away and facing some grim times reminiscing about a true love long left behind on shore... hny M:)
Beautiful song, touching rendition! I have just bought a guitar and want to try and learn this as my first song as it means something to me. I can play all the chords now but would love to know how to learn the picking as you play it as this is the nicest I have heard. Is this a known pattern of picking or is it unique to your version of this song? I would be greatful for any info that would help me play it similar your version.
Hi Paul.. thanks for your kind words.. I have been playing a long time so my style is unique to my character although it is based on a a range of finger picking styles.. the basis can be heard in the old black, blues guys like Missippippi John Hurt etc.. maybe you can take a look at my 'free guitar lession.. its a light hearted way of saying..this is how I play' but it covers the basics.. drop me a note if you want any more pointers.. its just practice..
i see you reply. good. i just want to send best wishes from Switzerland. my answer? what i miss is really the feeling of this song. cannot explain. don't want to write more fuck im tired. good night and keep the work up tnx.bye

Fabulous version of a great song. If I'd been sitting on an English Man-O-War around Nelson's time, I would think I'd have heard a similar version.
