  • Oh and another question... Can I say "He held his own in the competition", meaning that he could keep up with them? Or is it only possible in a sentence like "He could hold his own..."?

  • So is "hold your peace" really polite? Could you write "Hold your peace" on a sign in a library, for example?

  • @civsation i don't think so cause i think that "hold your peace" is only use when you are telling somebody to shutup while he/she was talking. so i think it's impolite to put a sign that says "please shut up" at a library rather use "please be quite" or "silence please".
