This makes my heart heavy. All over the world we take two steps forward and one step backward. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of all the hate and fear. We could learn so much from one another if we would just choose love over hate. Acceptance over tolerance!

I've already posted a comment about this terrible event, but feel compelled to post again. We still live in a prejudiced world but, if we are allowed to, we just want normal lives and to love who we want.
Homophobia means that we have to yell who we are and that we are proud. You don't realize that we have abuse every day. We have prejudice in every aspect of our lives. Luckily most gay people are social and supportive, that is why you see scenes of the affirmation of who we are in this video.

In a country with so much violence, why on earth would someone want to create more? War I can understand: Hate typically begets hate which begets violence. It's abhorrent but understandable. However, I don't understand what compels people to respond to love with hate. That's what being openly LGBT is: Loving yourself and loving someone else...even in a religious context, how can 'thou shalt not kill' be overruled by 'a man shall not lie with a man?' Who decided the second one is more important?

I distain the term hate crime. I mean really, it's a crime already, why do you have to add hate to the end? All the difference in terms does is promote a difference among our race. If i killed someone in school, it would be hateful already! If it happened to be a black or gay person, why add hate to the term? Your comments are more set on division then unity - your thoughts and speech are an anti-thesis of peace - its pure hatred of the religious who possibly may not have done this. Even if he/she was religious, certainly he/she can't call him/herself that and u can't put blame on everyone of the whole group.

In a country with so much violence, why on earth would someone want to create more? War I can understand: Hate typically begets hate which begets violence. It's abhorrent but understandable. However, I don't understand what compels people to respond to love with hate. That's what being openly LGBT is: Loving yourself and loving someone else...even in a religious context, how can 'thou shalt not kill' be overruled by 'a man shall not lie with a man?' Who decided the second one is more important?

I distain the term hate crime. I mean really, it's a crime already, why do you have to add hate to the end? All the difference in terms does is promote a difference among our race. If i killed someone in school, it would be hateful already! If it happened to be a black or gay person, why add hate to the term? It's hateful already, and like i said, the term only promotes a difference between us humans.

Fiedllio13, we don't add hate. The criminal does. Hate crime is fundamentally different from other crime. It is not motivated by need, or provocation, or insanity, but to terrorize a community. Not all crimes are hateful at all. For example, a mother murdering her kids is hard to understand, but in most cases the mother says she loved them. Theft and burglary are rarely motivated by hate. If you don't like "hate crime" then let's call it terrorism. It's the same thing.

As a young transgender youth I used to attend a youth group much like theirs. We used to meet in the basement of a local church. I can't imagine what it would have been like if it had been our group that was attacked.
