  • it's AS-TER-ISK not ASTRIX.

    Astrix is a cartoon character.

  • you sound exactly like Wikus van der Merwe, even the intonation and rhythm of your speech. Oh! I haven't shown you a picture of my wife! Here she is, my angel. I tell people she actually looks like an angel, you see here? The white looks like a halo on her head. Can you see that? She's my angel, you're picking that up on your cameras there! They probably won't keep that in the film but...

  • why the fuck would u use isdn get cable or dsl

  • caption on plz

  • It is hard to understand, did you say they have telephones in Africa???

  • I went to vontrump.com and found the voip products available there really cool. I am able to make international calls even.

  • We don't 'ate de prawns, we just want them to go back 'ome.

    -couldn't resist, no offence intended.

  • @mushkamusic - Luckily I don't live near district 9 so the prawns aren't much of a problem in my suburb :) Still a nuisance though.

  • looks good idea dosen't cost much......... but i don't think this can work for permanent offices which working 24 h a day

  • Hey @AeKDzTeCh. We got some client using Asterisk in 24hr call centres with 50 seats. Works great. Can even have active-active fail-over cluster in place to ensure no down time!

  • what a fucking accent!!!

  • Great video. Thanks for making this. I just set up an ATA for home use and will try this with a spare PC. I have been researching Asterisk and I will try Elastix. It looks like it has a lot of good features bundled together.

  • Thank you for your response.

Does the pbx setup work with an analog card to connect to the pbx server, instead of the ISDN card, and have an out to the analog phone rather than to purchase VoIP phones? I much rather go the analog route instead of using the ISDN card. Would it work?

  • you can use an analogue card but its much more expensive. You will need to use an ATA adapter for the analogue phones. They cost about 1/2 that of the cheapest IP phones.

  • Hi,

I want to setup a home pbx system for my small business. First, what is the card you are showing and how much does it cost? Can I use my old cpu to make it my pbx server? And, is there any specs that I should follow before installing the program you have in your system in to my cpu? Can I use magicjack as a cheap way to cut my monthly bill and connect multiple jacks to the cpu/pbx server I create?

  • Hi Craig,

I was using a isdn compatible card with the colgne chipset. Some of the cards which are used as isdn modems are ok for this. It was real cheap around USD25.

If you have only a limited number of incoming lines and extensions a low powered PC will do.

I don't know what magic jack is but you can simply use a sip compatible softphone or hardphone. If its for multiple incoming lines then put two or more ISDN cards in. Our server has 3 which gives us 6 lines in total.

  • You are very handsome. I am fond of your accent!

  • Hi, I need info on IP-PBX server and clients. Specilly remote/Wi-Fi clients as str0ngbacker is wondering for IPhone.

Can u please guide/inform me please. Any way IPPBX4 its a nice and informative video.

  • Hi AsiaI74,

I have never used an iphone but if it has a wifi connection and you can setup a sip account on it then it will work with asterisk. My nokia does :)

  • mmm can you ping the asterisk vm? Sounds like you may have some basic networking issues with the quest os? Once you have that working irs easy to setup an extension in asterisk and then register a sip phone.

  • I'm installing that on computers in the same network, but I'm having troubles configuring the terminals. I'd like to add an iphone as a terminal (via siphon), if you know where can I read a tutorial, please let me know. Thanks.

  • Hey st0ngbacker, No I don't know where you can find a tutorial about that siphon and the iphone but if it works like any other sip client there are tons out there. Is it similar to a sip client or is it a bit more complicated?

  • It's like a SIP client, I just need an extension, a display name, and a server to make my iphone work with asterisk.

  • should be simple enough then - set up a sip extension on asterisk and the register the iphone just like any other sip phone, or have you tried this and it didn't work?

  • I already tried that, but I guess that I know the problem now.

Look, this is a project for my university, I install asterisk in a virtual machine with VMWare, in a computer, but it didn't work there , so I copy the whole virtual machine to another computer, and it didn't work neither. Both computers have a different IP, of course, and I guess that's the problem.

I'm going to reinstall asterisk in a new virtual machine tomorrow.

  • I would like to see more of this kind of stuff

  • Yeah - I plan to do more - just been so busy these last 4 months. But I got it on my to-do list.
