I hate when it won't tell me what's the cause of this shit some bombing won't make any sense.
the movie is prity long ..
just get to the point ..
but it's prity good ..
it's bout father that would do anything to keep his son safe. and a son that grew up on this century. cannibalism. it's scary that this would happen on a nice peaceful day.
I saw 2012 and this movie. 2012 is good (I'd give it about a 7 maybe 8) and of course the special effects are real good, but this movie is excellent! I'd give it a 9 to 10. Its about a Father and his son 's relationship during this very dire, extreme, day-to-day struggle to survive! Very intense , tear jerker. I pray this world would never get to this.....especially the people in the basement scene! If you've seen the movie, you know what I mean.
just watched it. i've been waiting for it for months, but i didn't find it special. it's very intense you just sit and wait for the bad guys to show up. god movie but not brilliant, probably won't watch it again.
john hillcoat has shown himself to b a talented director re THE PROPOSITION plus numerous other projects any anxiety could b premature he has the maturity to interpret mccarthy novel.the only pitfall that i registar is that its shot in colour muted as it is ,high contrast B/w would work better for the visual emotion of the novel
I really don't like the idea of a movie being made from this book. The book is, in my opinion, such an outstanding piece of literature. I don't think the movie will even sniff a fraction of the power of the book. McCarthy is a dark genius.
i really hope they didn't make the wife a major character.......she was barely in the book and the few parts she was in all she managed to do was piss me off
When I was reading the book, I somehow felt that there were bad guys who were cannibals? Anybody get the story? Does anybody understand what happened or was it never actually showed or explained in the story?
ummm yeah it was explained in the story....you don't remember the part with the infant roasting on the fire? or the part with the people locked in the basement who were kept for food?
The book describes an ash covered environment. A nuclear holocaust would make more sense than climate change, but while reading I got the idea of an asteroid or comet impact that would hurl ash and dust into the atmospere.
I hope they didn't make it a climate change disaster. The book kind of alluded to a nuclear disaster (huge flash of light before the father filled up bathtub with water). the presence of ash would support that event as well.
I worked on the movie as a grip and read the book while shooting. I think that reading the book definitely made what we were shooting make more sense. Either way I am excited to see it . .
I don't think it was a nuclear winter...as there's no mention of radiation sickness anywhere in the book. My guess is that it was the aftermath of a super-volcano...like the one in Yellowstone Park - the name of which escapes me.
Hopefully the filmmakers haven't made the movie too Hollywood & stuck closely to the book. Always a danger when adapting a great book to the screen.
And the info in the box above-right is silly. The world is destroyed by nuclear winter, not some unnamed cataclysm. All the clues are in McCarthy's book. Ash from fires after nuclear war blocks sunlight & everything dies. The last humans remaining are simply scavenging off the dregs.
There are moments of great joy in the book. It's not all horror.
Agreed, The Road isnt an action/horror movie its a drama. Its a story about the love shared between a father and a son, not a serial killer. There are moments of suspense but thats not the point it there only to keep you involved. Honestly as of seeing this trailer I'm not impressed and could see this movie turning out to be a disappointment.
I think you're right about it being nuclear winter. before the man's wife killed herself, McCarthy disclosed she was blind, a symptom of radiation exposure. The book for this movies was entirely better than either Mad Max or Postman, as far as the movies go. I think Hollywood is getting better about film adaptations. A lot of people thought fight club was a good movie, but that book was entirely better. If the movie is anywhere as good as the book, this will be both frightening and amazing.
It's hard to find a good adaptation of a book to a movie or TV form. Clockwork Orange is pretty good, but leaves out much of that short novel. It took about 15 hours to tell the story of Brideshead Revisited (the TV series, not the recent hack movie). Most movies are pale ghosts of the original.
My "guess" of nuclear winter is based mostly on the lines that the father sees a series of flashes (cities being bombed) and feels a low rumble (blast wave). The two travel thru one city where the glass & asphalt has melted. If it had been a volcano or other disaster, individual cities would not have been burned up, but just general widespread destruction.
It's ash in the air blocking sunlight that kills everything ultimately. Sagan wrote about nuclear winter in just this way.
according to early reviews, this move is amazing! and i hope it really is, cause the book was phenomenal.
i think this trailer is just made so that people who've never heard of the book are interested, its just trying to buy audiences, thats why it doesnt seem like much.
im sure the actual movie itself will live up to the book tho
Haha, the trailer does nothing to truly portray what is in the book or the movie.

I got to see the movie at a early screening with the writer director executive and Viggo and they did QA after...
it was fantastic and this trailer gives people the wrong impression its a story about a father and a son not the end of the world.

But thats the beauty of the book. It doesnt matter how the world went to hell; all that matters is the man and the boy and the fire they both carry.
